Florida Had a Ton of Empty Seats For The Bowling Green Game
All, College Football September 1st. 2012, 4:40pm
Apparently, a few thousand Florida fans forgot the season was starting today, or weren’t that enthused to see Bowling Green. Here is a shot of an empty upper level at the swamp. Florida’s offense seems to have forgotten the season started as well. [Update: Florida fans are adamant that is the Bowling Green section.]

Announced attendance was 83,000.
Which would put Florida’s attendance today as roughly the 13th largest football stadium in the country.

I don’t have a horse in this race, but don’t unsold visitor tickets end up being available to the public? I also don’t believe that BG was allotted 3000 seats.

It’s a shitty matchup, why should they show up?

Maybe someone farted in that section.

who cares?? i thought that was the norm for florida sports

Bowling Green is down only 7, and in the Florida red zone. The “shitty” is Florida, not the matchup.
Still struggling to understand why anybody would have looked at this team, and thought they were a Top 20 team.

Two quarterback system at its finest shittiness!

Honest question: has there ever been a time where having a QB platoon worked?
September 1st, 2012 at 5:25 PM
Don’t really know if this counts since they had specified roles instead of just switching back and forth for no apparent reason, but Leak/Tebow.

Florida was successful with it twice, in 97 with Johnson & Brandise, and as gfunk mentioned in 06 with Leak & Tebow.
In 1984, South Carolina’s only 10-win season prior to last year was on the back of a 2-QB system.
Sure there have been others.

West Virginia is averaging 69.5 ppg over its past two games.
/ Means absolutely nothing, but sounds cool

Another one I thought of was Dolphins 82 Super Bowl team, Don Strock & David Woodley.

I was thinking Tebow and Leak also, but I’m not sure if that qualifies. They were not trading series. Tebow was only brought in in very specific circumstances. Driskell and Brisett are trading back and forth, essentially doing the same thing, albeit with slightly different skill sets.

Speaking of Woodley, it worked for LSU in the late ’70s when they alternated Woodley and Steve Ensminger.
Also, Florida did it some with Chris Leak and Tebow the year they won their first NC under Meyer.
The Aints once had alternating Billy Joes on their roster, but that did not work out at all.

OSU w/ Stanley Jackson and Joe Germaine the year they beat ASU (Jake Plummer team) in the Rose Bowl. They finished #2 that year.

Ok, so the point is that there is precedent for using two quarterbacks. Still, with how today is going it looks like they’ll need to pick one or the other at some point in the season.

BG just tied it.

BG!!!!!! Ay Ziggy Zoomba!

Yes! Good showing by the boys from BG

Usually, yes. Also, that looks like it would be an enormous visiting section.
