his speech was funny, but odd. remember, he’s an entertainer, and that is why he was brought there.
August 31st, 2012 at 8:03 AM
That Clint Eastwood speech was comedic gold. Can he win an Emmy for that performance?
August 31st, 2012 at 8:08 AM
Awesome!!!!! I can see the White Cliffs of Dover in the photo from the front page. Maybe’s that not the cliffs I was looking at. Speaking of Cliffs of Dover
Eric Johnson Great tune. wow, 20 years ago.
Back to Kelly’s cliffs. More to see here SFW
Weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!

Saukerlina was terrible. No offensive weapons at all, I mean Vandy is scrappy but that defense is bad. Looking forward to MSU/Potato tonight.
Early roundup is always appreciated.
August 31st, 2012 at 8:09 AM
Ya, Obama, stop talking about student loans. Nice zing Clint.
August 31st, 2012 at 8:13 AM
Shows how out of touch GOP is.
They were pissed Clint did a car commercial on GM’s recovery in Super Bowl and thought they could grab that magic at the convention.
Should have Clint pull his .45 out at end and start shooting chair, would have been biggest cheer in GOP history.
August 31st, 2012 at 8:14 AM
Messed that up. Better link here still SFW

So I didnt watch it, but did Mitt really get into the whole reason why his ancestors ended up in Mexico? Can that really go over well with the general American public?
August 31st, 2012 at 8:18 AM
Eric Johnson Great tune. wow, 20 years ago.
great call bro
August 31st, 2012 at 8:22 AM
Clint sounded like a man who was up way past his bedtime.
August 31st, 2012 at 8:22 AM
Some subhuman scheduled a massive conference call this afternoon from 3-5. The level of stones and sheer dickheadness it takes to do something like that is simply not measurable.
August 31st, 2012 at 8:23 AM
Guess the talk about the SEC being really deep starts early this year. Obviously SC has an amazing offense, it was just the super speed of the Vandy defense that slowed them down. Right?
August 31st, 2012 at 8:25 AM
Nice of Morning Joe to want openness, and deep topics. Now, that dead intern he was banging? Well, no questions about that, obviously. Fraud.

W..what? Who are you talking about?
August 31st, 2012 at 8:31 AM
Do you hear that? It’s the sweet sound of Romney winning. You can talk about Eastwood’s weird performance all day long but this election is over.

I hate when people go off on weird tangents and I search the Roundup with a fine tooth comb to try to figure out what they’re talking about and I still dont have a clue.
August 31st, 2012 at 8:35 AM
Let me guess, this is the first election you’ve ever followed, correct?

$50 says Romney loses, with all those wealthy tax cuts trickling down to your bank account surely you can afford that bet and your not just some mouthy douchebag talking out his ass.
August 31st, 2012 at 8:36 AM
So we’re still angry at rich folks today?
August 31st, 2012 at 8:37 AM
I felt sorry for Eastwood while watching that speech. He’s way past his prime as a live speaker, should be in a old folks home.
August 31st, 2012 at 8:37 AM
The host of morning joe was murping his intern, she had been missing for 6 weeks.
August 31st, 2012 at 8:38 AM
$50 says Romney loses
From the sound of it you better hang on to your money.
August 31st, 2012 at 8:38 AM
How about when they cut to that yinzer with the Steeler helmet and Crosby jersey during Mitt’s speech?
August 31st, 2012 at 8:39 AM
i can’t believe people are talking like Clint Eastwood’s speech matters. It was meant to entertain. Barry had a nice retort on Twitter.
seriously, settle down, everyone.
August 31st, 2012 at 8:39 AM
This kinda sounds like a big story. *googles*
August 31st, 2012 at 8:40 AM
Wow, that does take some cajones to do that on a holiday weekend. Tar and feather him.
August 31st, 2012 at 8:40 AM

I’m thinking if you bet him he will be hanging on to his money, and yours.

I guess it’s my fault for actually reading a link, and thinking others might, as well. The somewhere the news forgot what the news was link. Ol’ Intern Killing Joe pontificating.

Clint Dempsey turns down £7m deal to move to Aston Villa. Holding out for Liverpool, who probably don’t want to pay him. Hope he doesn’t get stuck playing with the reserves now after screwing over Fulham.

I got a guy in my carpool that said back in April that a Obama win was a given. He even stated “I will drive for a whole month in the carpool if he loses”. Boy, I would like to see that happen and save on a little gas money, plus the ribbing he would take for an entire month of driving would be insufferable for him.
/plans to vote many times for Romney LOL
August 31st, 2012 at 8:44 AM
Oh, so Joe Scarborough’s former intern died many years ago. Also, he apparently murdered her?
August 31st, 2012 at 8:44 AM
Glad I was on a plane during the RNC last night.

9/11 ended the investigation. The Washington dudes used to say that Joe was the only guy who breathed a sigh of relief when 9/11 happened. The intern died when she fainted and hit her head on the corner of his desk, while alone in his office. Sure, that sounds about right.
August 31st, 2012 at 8:46 AM
Glad I didn’t even watch any of the speeches last night, was watching SC-Vandy and then doing the draft with a bunch of you here.

10%?
/Yardwork’d
August 31st, 2012 at 8:52 AM
The back judge needs to sit a couple games. A obvious grab of the arm on Vandy’s fourth down play. Not that they’d have scored – they semed to be 3-and-out, 3-and-out, 3-and-out, lucky play for a score, 3-and-out, but they didn’t get a chance thanks to a bad no-call.
August 31st, 2012 at 8:52 AM
OK, how about this–I put my old Maxfli A10 irons back in the bag last weekend. Forgot how much I loved them. One of the best blended sets ever. Back when Maxfli was still a premium manufacturer. Chrome plated nickel. Soft as butter.

Serious question. Do you even listen to Limbaugh or Hannity (Beck is a loon)? Or do you just take left wing media’s word for it.
August 31st, 2012 at 8:57 AM

Do the Jets really think Tim Tebow is above taking snaps in the 4th preseason game? We’re sure he’s a big boy quarterback now? Really?

ImJustSayin:
I am not a liberal. I’m an apathetic, fed-up unaffiliated. I dont watch news/political TV anymore. Ive listened to plenty of Hannity and Limbaugh over the years and my dad listens/watches regularly. on both sides, they are all trolling for ratings. There is no real interest in providing great, intelligent discussion.
But you can keep up with the tired, lazy right-wing cliche of “have you actually ever listened to them?” It’s what idiotic sycophants say when they refuse to admit that their side is just as flawed. Quit with the victim mentality. Fox NEws is just as guilty of being race-baiting assholes.

Just to clarify, skanks and/or 5 star nasties are usually the ones that are doling out the handies. I should’ve specified grilling and BBQ though. One shouldn’t assume (which I did) that those events go hand in hand with football and beer.
August 31st, 2012 at 9:05 AM
SC as a title contender is ridiculous (they cant throw the ball), but Vandy is feisty at home. They almost took down Arky and UGA last year.

Soon, Italian giants will be losing marquee players to the Hungarian 2nd division. Is Serie A down for the count? In my lifetime, I don’t think I’ve ever seen italian football be so lower in importance. Yes, I know Inter won the Champions League just 2 years ago. But I don’t see how Italy can regularly send 2-3 teams to either quarter-final or the semi-final of Champions League like they used to do 10 years ago. It seems like even big clubs in Italy have turned into feeder for richer clubs in England, Spain, Germany, and the final insult to injury, France.

I don’t think SC are title contenders due to the hurdles they have to jump with that schedule, but last night should be (and wasn’t) any indication that they don’t have a legitimate shot. A smother defense that allowed a couple of big plays to a scrappy team in their own backyard. I think the passing game will develop, assuming Shaw stays healthy, and they’re looking at another possible 10-2 season. And if you are capable of winning that many games, catching a few breaks might make it 11-1 real easy.

Joe Biden is a great example of, if you’re around long enough, and end up in the right situation, people might actually mistake age for competence.
I understood why Obama had Biden on the ticket originally, but damn. He could have done better.

Going to the opening of the Allen TX high school stadium tonight. A friend owns the company that built it and they have tickets. I would go from time to time and watch the progress- amazing.
just moved out to southlake, their stadium is insane too. they are all trying to out-do each other. stricly a north texas thing. none of the other cities have stadiums like this (one exception in Cy Fair).

I can’t figure out which is worse, the rampant match-fixing or the decrepit stadiums. Most Serie A stadiums wouldn’t look out of place in a third-world country.
August 31st, 2012 at 9:26 AM
I’ll never understand why Vanderbilt Stadium is such a difficult place to play (not always, but a lot of the time) for visiting teams. that place is usually a mausiluem. nice crowd last night though.

1. Going home today from vacation
2. Installing sump pump over the weekend

MP III- Southlake? I go to church there from time to time when I’m not at my regular church and I have never seen so many Dragon vehicle decals, signs, or anything else. You would think the Dragons were a professional franchise. The Dragons are playing Allen tonight to open the stadium.

August 31st, 2012 at 9:30 AM
I think it’s going to come down to matchups on the line, Bama’s DEF is gonna have some new faces and they are going to try and take the lateral movements away from Denard across the front. I expect some misdirection from them and Bama will have to adjust during the game. I think Bama’s OFF line is stout and I think the control the line of scrimmage. Still closer game than the Bettors are indicating (Bama -14).
Bama wins 23-14.

I’ll rephrase: Biden will take any remaining shine off Ryan in the debates. The upside of having Biden’s say anything reputation is that he can, in fact, say anything. Like “You’re a liar” everytime Ryan, a compulsive liar, opens his mouth.

For those unfamiliar with Texas HS football, here is an article form Wednesday detailing costs involved in a typical Southlake Carrol home game- not including coach salaries or uniforms- an example- a game last year cost roughly $16K but brought in $90K.

My favorite Biden moment was when Palin made the massive mistake of mentioning how hard it is to be a mother and raise kids, clearly having no fucking clue that Biden’s wife and baby daughter had been killed and he had to raise two sons alone, he started crying when talking about it and the debate was over.

I wonder if Biden will try to go back to the well with the “chains” comment at the VP debate? Should be good times.

I’m not really interested in a political fight, but Biden being able to call out Ryan’s “lies” when it was Biden that had a serious problem with truth-telling in his last debate, is pretty funny.

Palin. Christ, has anyone in modern political history fallen so far so fast? In 2008, who would have thought she’d be utterly irrelevant on the eve of the next presidential election? Don’t get me wrong — she is a dumpster fire of a human being and has no business being involved in the running of a McDonalds let alone a country. But that she’s gone is just incredible.

I liked the speech. I especially liked the part where he spoke of the plant in…cue the soft music ***Janesville*** that Obama’s policies caused to close even though the damn thing closed 3 months before Obama’s inauguration and you ate it up anyway. It’s like he was throwing peanuts at the Republican faithful and telling the rest of American “this is how I feed the animals”.

2. Actually find out what happened to the plant.

August 31st, 2012 at 9:58 AM
I live within walking distance of the Vienna station, so it was a no-brainer for me. Parking for the Zoo is $16, and I imagine they fill up quickly on holidays such as Labor Day Weekend. The only downside is that the Zoo is literally right in the middle of the Cleveland Park/Woodley Park stops on the red line, so it will be about a mile walk from either station. Here’s a map if you want to try and map out your day…

You do realize how fact-checking works right? They’re fed the info by the opposing parties. Thus, after Ryan is done with his speech, the Obama campaign feverishly sends the info over to the fact-checkers. Romney will do the same to Obama.
Nothing really wrong with this as long the facts are verified.

The argument about what actually happened to the plant is stupid.

August 31st, 2012 at 1:04 PM
Thought the Archives & Air & Space are involved. If so, you want the green/yellow. Green/yellow is also better for Air&Space (actually, L’Enfant is, but that’s a pain to navigate).
This is how i’d do it:
Park in Cleveland Park/Van Ness area.
Walk to zoo (metro if parking in Van Ness).
Metro to Gallery Place – transfer to green/yellow line
Take Green/Yellow to Achives
See the founding documents
Walk (almost directly)across the Mall to the Air & Space.
See planes
Get on Blue line (L’Enfant or Smithsoinian if you want to walk) to Metro Center – transfer to Red Line
Red Line to where you parked.
August 31st, 2012 at 1:12 PM
Here’s the Goolgle Map of the Mall. Note you’ll be walking more from the Smithsoinan stop. There are also lots of people in that area (i try and avoid people).
You’ll need to remember the metro trains are named by the last stop in the direction of travel. For example, from where you’ll be parking, the Red Line is Glenmont towards the Mall, Shady Grove (sometimes Silver Spring) back.
