Johnny Cueto the Cy Young front runner in the NL now? 17 wins and 2.48 ERA

The Walking Dead links takes you to the Wells Fargo story.
Can’t believe a Republican running for office believes something completely crazy. Wow.

Yowser.
Hey, can anyone explain why the Republicans were bullying my Maine(Ron Paul) delegates last night? It’s not like Romney was in danger of not getting the nomination, and the committee just ended up looking like dicks.
August 29th, 2012 at 8:30 AM
I missed this one! They are putting on quite a show in Tampa.
August 29th, 2012 at 8:33 AM
Ho. Lee. Shit.
Throw him over in the corner with Bachmann and Akin.
August 29th, 2012 at 8:33 AM
At least he hasn’t been elected… yet.
August 29th, 2012 at 8:33 AM
saw this on twitter last night and I still can’t believe that this actually happened
August 29th, 2012 at 8:34 AM
That video of Novak is just one reason I love tennis. It happens at most tournaments, never really gets any publicity, but the players keep doing it because it is fun.
And that kid has a pretty nice damn serve for someone so young.
August 29th, 2012 at 8:35 AM
well, it is unusual for a Republican candidate to align themselves directly with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad
August 29th, 2012 at 8:35 AM
“RNC Attendee Allegedly Threw Nuts At Black CNN Camerawoman, Said ‘This Is How We Feed Animals’”
He was ejected and these conventions draw fanatics. I am sure there’ll be enough extremism at these two events to go around.
August 29th, 2012 at 8:37 AM
i don’t know why, but i watched the chris christie speech last night. nice way for him to pitch for the 2016 nomination like Obama did when giving the keynote for Kerry.
i didn’t hear any messaging to appeal to undecided voters, which was interesting.
on top of that, i like how the republicans are actually using the collectivist “we built that” mantra that Obama talked about. dumb shits.
August 29th, 2012 at 8:37 AM
Nobody reads the links. He doesn’t identify himself as a Republican, but as a member of his own party. Guy is nuts, but smart enough to realize his only chance to get on the general election ballot is to run as a Republican.
August 29th, 2012 at 8:37 AM
As dominate as he’s been, I’m not so sure he’s even the favorite for Cy Young on his own team.

I would love for the President next week to come out and say, “You want to turn the clock back to the 1950s? Ok, are you willing to accept 70% marginal top tax rates again?”
/in my dreams
//he needs to throw the gauntlet down
August 29th, 2012 at 8:39 AM
Cool mashup video of Jordan and Kobe. and yes the koala bear is very cute.
August 29th, 2012 at 8:39 AM
I wonder how many undecided voters actually tune into the conventions. They seem more like pep rally’s for their bases than anything else.
August 29th, 2012 at 8:39 AM
True enough. Until I read about some hipster throwing food stamps at a banker, I’m going to assume the GOP is still nuts, though.
That’s splitting hairs to an obscene degree. If this asshat ran as a Democrat I’d be embarrassed and want him off the ballot, beaten, and left for dead immediately.
August 29th, 2012 at 8:40 AM
Still think Dickey is the favorite
August 29th, 2012 at 8:41 AM
He will, at least i hope he will, in a forum with a national audience. no one will pay attention to anything else right now.
August 29th, 2012 at 8:42 AM
Yep.
/ Sure equally stupid shit will come out of DNC confab in Charlotte
August 29th, 2012 at 8:43 AM
I doubt it. He’s going to take the high road and try to woo independents with middle-ground policies and soaring rhetoric.
August 29th, 2012 at 8:43 AM
the conventions are a pep rally for the base, but it’s also the official messaging of the candidates really being unveiled by the surrogates and the ticket.
August 29th, 2012 at 8:43 AM
How about he runs the gantlet instead?
August 29th, 2012 at 8:44 AM
Hey phillymantis, have you been hearing about what Darin Ruf’s doing in Reading? Hope he takes tonight off so I can see him break Howard’s HR record on Thursday in person. 18 HR in August alone. Hope he doesnt fail a drug test.
August 29th, 2012 at 8:45 AM
As ugly as this campaign is getting that wouldn’t surprise me if that was some sort of plant. Regardless, and whether it was or wasn’t a plant, that sort of crap has been going on since 2000, at least, and it’s getting old from both sides. The more they run down this slippery slope of ugly politics the more the leading minds, etc., will continue to go in to business to make more money and do it more anonymously than serving as an elected official.
August 29th, 2012 at 8:46 AM
I wonder how many undecided voters actually tune into the conventions. They seem more like pep rally’s for their bases than anything else.
I’d say it changes over time. I don’t think undecided would watch much outside the candidate’s speech. I think compared to 04 and 08 this election lacks the same buzz factor.
August 29th, 2012 at 8:46 AM
jesus tittyfucking christ, putin…$2.5 billion/year in upkeep?

Article was from February. Idiot lost in the primary. Does this restore faith in the Republican electorate?
No, it does not.
August 29th, 2012 at 8:47 AM
Yes I have seen and heard about it. Very interesting, but he’s a marginal prospect who’s repeating AA. He would be an interesting DH/PH.
August 29th, 2012 at 8:48 AM
throw down the gauntlet
August 29th, 2012 at 8:48 AM
I think people will watch Romney’s speech and Obama’s speech. Maybe Paul Ryan’s, too. Otherwise, it’s for the bases.

August 29th, 2012 at 8:50 AM
Republicans should keep their mouths shut for the most part or talk exclusively about Obama’s embarrassing record.
August 29th, 2012 at 8:52 AM
It would be interesting for the candidates to both just say “fuck it” at the same time and announce a platform of policies they truly want to enact should Congress/society let them.
Obama could just come out and say he wants a single-payer healthcare system, much higher taxes on the wealthy, increased control over corporations, stricter environmental regulations, pot legalization, while Romney could advocate for a zero tax rate for anyone making over $250,000, no regulations, drilling everywhere, massive cutting of social programs, total abortion bans, prayer in schools, less worker rights, elimination of unions and completely privatized schools and healthcare.
Just see where the public comes down. Would be an interesting exercise.
August 29th, 2012 at 8:53 AM
I’ll probbaly get crushed (pun intended) but I like Christie. Other notes from last night: Why does Rick Sanotrum sound like a southern batman now? Did anyone see on CNN that projected black voters for Mitt Romney was 0%? I was flipping between cable news networks and the differences in narratives fascinating. I’ll watch every night of both conventions.
August 29th, 2012 at 8:53 AM
Almost sounds Democratic-like
August 29th, 2012 at 8:53 AM
Christie sounded like the nominee last night. Too bad he isn’t on the ticket.
August 29th, 2012 at 8:55 AM
Yeah all those jobs created under his watch, the healthcare reform bill, and the killing of dozens of terrorists (including bin Laden) is pathetic.
August 29th, 2012 at 8:55 AM
It’s called dependency. Really not that surprising.
August 29th, 2012 at 8:55 AM
Christie/Rubio will win it in 2016. that’s been my guess for a bit now.
Smart of Christie to avoid this year’s ticket. Won’t win.

August 29th, 2012 at 8:56 AM
that is not the Paul Ryan way. I kind of agree with him.
August 29th, 2012 at 8:56 AM
I dont dislike Christie, I just wonder how that style would play nationally — a fat blowhard with no real policy experience is a tough sell outside of Jersey. I still think its Rubio in 2016.
August 29th, 2012 at 8:57 AM
I’ll probbaly get crushed (pun intended) but I like Christie.

Maybe so, but he was very reminiscent of 2004 Obama in captivating the audience. Probably set himself up for a 2016 run.
August 29th, 2012 at 8:58 AM
Fear sparks desperation. Repubs all across the country fear a second term of a Negro President who will be operating without the spectre of another re-election. The more apparent it becomes that it will happen, the more those true colors will continue to come out.
August 29th, 2012 at 8:59 AM
Must have used the quote feature too many times.
Anyhow, all I was going to say is that both parties have nuts that only use the big parties come election time. Nothing new to see there.
August 29th, 2012 at 8:59 AM
Why? You’re right. Republicans won’t win, and Ryan will be old news by 2016.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:00 AM
i do like how he flat out lied that he supports teachers. my wife probably would have tossed the remote through the TV like an old woman playing wii if she had heard that.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:01 AM
Slowest recovery in decades
Hugely unpopular and unsustainable
Continuation of Bush’s policy
Glad we agree
August 29th, 2012 at 9:01 AM
I doubt I’ll watch a minute, other than maybe Ryan’s speech out of curiosity.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:01 AM
I truly believe this explains a lot of the right wing kooks completely losing their minds about this election. They really think a second term is when Obama springs his trap, imposing Sharia Law and taking everyone’s guns.
A good portion of the country is going to lose its mind when Obama wins again. Gonna be a scary few weeks.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:02 AM
Yep.
I just think Mitt has loser stench on him the same way Kerry did in 2004, even though GWB was vulnerable. If Christie wins NJ in his next go-round (I think he will), then he will almost certainly be the GOP nominee in 2016.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:03 AM
I’ll probbaly get crushed (pun intended) but I like Christie. Other notes from last night: W
You really actually believe this? NO black person is going to vote for Romney. This the sort of crap CNN puts out there. Chris Rock talked about this in an HBO special how whites are shown to make an intelligent, rational choice for President while black people are just voting for the guy because he is black, that is all.

August 29th, 2012 at 9:07 AM
This election will be no different than all the others in terms of intensity, name-calling, heatedness, etc. Every election cycle people whine and complain that “this” year things are nastier than ever. Give me a break. One side NEVER wants the other side to win.

booker could pose a serious challenge, depending on his positions. it’s still a blue state and Christie is working with an almost 10% unemployment rate.
don’t forget, Christie didn’t win against a popular incumbent based on his popular policy ideas. he won b/c everyone hated Corzine and he was something different.
fucking ron paul or ross perot could have won in a landslide in that election against corzine.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:11 AM
August 29th, 2012 at 9:11 AM
That was my point.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:12 AM
Christie will never sell in the South. He’s too much of a blowhard and too proud to cow tow his social moderate views to the Southern delegation as Romney has this go around. Plus I think he’s more tv character than effective politician.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:13 AM
Has there been a legit economic study on this?
Drug dealers buy stuff with drug proceeds, which generates sales tax. If their taxed on income, they’ll make less money and buy less stuff.
The major cost savings would probably be lack of wasted resources on drug enforcement and jails.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:13 AM
Again, there is a zero percent chance someone as revoltingly fat as Christie can ever win the presidency.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:13 AM
I was agreeing with you.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:14 AM
I love when I stumble into thebigpoliticaldebate.com
August 29th, 2012 at 9:14 AM
I know there are more people into politics, but I would guess if you made a list of the top eight GOP 2016 candidates, none will win.
“Getting your name out there” gives people more time to dig up stuff on you and pick your policies apart. I think somebody will come charging at the last moment and get the nomination. The endless news cycle just tires people out. I’m not saying it’ll be a fringe candidate, but just somebody who waits and engages the process differently.
just an outsiders opinion.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:14 AM
booker could pose a serious challenge, depending on his positions. it’s still a blue state and Christie is working with an almost 10% unemployment rate.
NJ unemployment is higher than Michigan. It doesn’t make sense, since everyone knows that government aid into the economy never works.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:14 AM
Cool Kobe-Jordan video.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:14 AM
True story. This is rarely mentioned anymore but Corzine was a dead man walking in 2008. Booker is extremely popular in New Jersey and could really get voters to come out in his favor. Christie is going to have a real fight on his hands.
A cool show on IFC called Brick City chronicled Booker and his struggles to try and clean up a really shitty section of New Jersey. Awesome documentary series. I believe there are two seasons.

Completely agree. I think some people realize this was a major feather in the cap and have got to de-politicize the whole thing. But I think whacking Bin Laden gives Barrack alot of cred in the voters world.
If finding and whacking Bin Laden was so easy it would have been done a lot sooner.

You should read that book, you’d probably really like it. Not too long, but the author has a ton of access both here and overseas and traces bin Laden’s movements from 9/11 all the way through his death. Really provides a lot of insight into the man, how effective we actually were in dismantling al Qaeda, and how risky the call to send in the SEALs really was (Gates and Biden advised against it in fact).
Fucking incredible that Obama killed it at the Correspondent’s Dinner knowing the SEAL raid was going to take place 10 hours later, too. Cold blooded.

What’s the deal with Rashad Jennings\MJD — is MJD going to sign? I have Jennings on that bench and could be an interesting week 1 play.
I’m also down to talk about the virtues of ice cream cake again.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:29 AM
obviously you mean “many in depth TBL discussions” when you say “Legit”
you increase penalties for people selling w/o a permit, growing w/o a permit, etc. handle the permits to grow for profit the same way you do a liquor license, permits to grow for personal use are cheaper, but carry stiff penalties if you sell it.
states will tax the shit out of it, but it will still be cheaper than weed on the street since big tobacco will get the mass distribution rights.
rewrite the laws and handle it like alcohol, no open “containers” while driving, no smoking while driving, no smoking while in the presence of kids. change the emphasis on law enforcement to target those breaking the permit laws and the misdemeanor laws rather than trying to arrest, prosecute and imprison those under the current laws.
increased tax revenue and reduction in cost from the law enforcement side. profit.

August 29th, 2012 at 9:30 AM
I think that applies to LBJ.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:30 AM

Good point proving that most voters are uninformed idiots.

Quick, top 4 tailgate foods and top 4 drinks?
Food: Brats, Burgers, Hot Sausages, Fried Chicken
Drinks: Crappy light american beer, shotgunning crappy american beer, whiskey, random frozen drink mix
August 29th, 2012 at 9:31 AM
Timmy – I also agree with option B as well as others have.
Good call
August 29th, 2012 at 9:31 AM
This. The summer special.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:31 AM
Jags have announced Jennings as started. Company line is that they had no other choice.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:32 AM
I would never drink wine at a tailgate, but it’s been my experience that the ladies enjoy sangria.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:32 AM
Top 4 food: burgers, ribs, chicken, whole hog (eastern NC BBQ)
top 4 drink: Bourbon and water, gin and tonic, natural light, margaritas (or any drink you can make by the pitcher/gallon and dispense easily)
August 29th, 2012 at 9:32 AM
Food: Brats, Burgers, Pulled Pork, BBQ chicken
Drinks: Beer

Wine at a tailgate? What is this, Yale?
August 29th, 2012 at 9:34 AM
1) Barbecue (real barbecue…not that brisket bullshit)
2) Burgers
3) Jalapeno Poppers
4) Baked Beans
1) Beer
2) Light Beer
3) Bloody Mary (if it’s an early kickoff)
4) Beer

I dunno if this influences your decision, but just saw this on Rotoworld:
August 29th, 2012 at 9:34 AM
Foods – Steaks, Kabobs, Sausage & Peppers, Scallops
I admit I am a bit envious of places where you can legitimtely cook at a tailgate. It’s possible here but in late OCT-NOV-DEC you have it 35-50 degrees with a lake wind of 20-30 mph coming in. Shit blowing everywhere. Just easiest to drink yourself into oblivion b/c cooking in that atmosphere is terrible. And that doesn’t even consider that you have to go watch the Browns.
OSU is okay to tailgate but since it’s so big a crowd you usually have a pretty hefty walk in to the Horseshoe.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:35 AM
Ice Luges at tailgates are always a huge hit. Really gets your tailgating neighbors involved.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:35 AM
the John Daly, my girlfriends staple drink.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:35 AM
Two thoughts on this. This summer I’ve gotten more into caramelizing some onions for my brats. It has almost become a must for me now. So good. Also, I’m being doing bratburgers more than regular sausage shaped brats. Love the bratburgers.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:35 AM

August 29th, 2012 at 9:36 AM
Kaiser – what’s your opinion on the legalization of harder drugs? I’m open to the discussion, but I have practical questions about how it would actually be carried out.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:36 AM
You know, for someone who suffered watching Bum Phillips order punts from the opponent’s 35-yard line, this guy‘s mentality is refreshing.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:36 AM
Meth Damon may not be his downfall. I think he uses Meth Damon’s uncle to kill the legacy guys, and eventually, that becomes his downfall. there’s not many paths to trace that one back, and something tells me Meth Damon isn’t the shining example of loyal if he faces life imprisonment.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:36 AM
Cool weather tailgates necessitate a warm drink option. Apple cider with a bottle of rum and a bottle of schnapps in it, in a crock pot, is perfect.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:37 AM
You’re speaking my language. Got any favorite Q restaurants?
August 29th, 2012 at 9:38 AM
From personal experience, if it’s an 11 a.m. kickoff, I would suggest not starting on the Bloody Marys at 8 a.m. and knocking them back nonstop. You might not make it until halftime.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:38 AM
Or, hot chocolate with either rum or peppermint schnapps.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:38 AM
scripty – I’ve lucked out on football tailgates for the Eagles. I went last November when it was 60 degrees, and the year before it was 48 in November, with very little wind both times. But December tailgating when it’s like 30 degrees – just drink your face off.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:38 AM
I said this yesterday: I just hope the inevitable collapse comes right as the Ravens get going so my disappointment window is minimal. The biggest thing that worries be beyond the Os is that the AL is so fucking good. Orioles are going supernova right now and only in the second WC spot by a half a game. There is no margin for error at all.
At least that 6-0 win last night erased some of that run differential.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:38 AM
I have a sweet baked bean casserole recipe to try out. It’s the one where you use like 6 kinds of beans and lots of bacon. Forgot all about it until I had it at a birthday party a couple weeks ago.

Michael Vick will be wearing a Kevlar flak jacket Week 1
He hands off to McCoy who runs for 180 and 3 TDs. The Browns run defense is still terrible.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:40 AM
@kazzy – Vick’s weekly medical report is something I’m quite familiar with. And the reliability of the Brady/Brees option is really the biggest reason to consider Option A. Thanks.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:40 AM
It may not involve Todd’s made-man uncle, but I agree that it feels like Walt will finally undo himself by trying to take out the legacy guys.
I cannot wait to see Hank’s reaction when he finds out who Heisenberg is.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:40 AM
I agree with almost everything in your list here. but we’ll never be friends because of that one egregious food.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:40 AM
I wont go to a football game after October. I generally hate attending at all because of the cost, travel time, horrible fanbase — I can watch in glorious warm HD from the comfort of my basement — but once it becomes miserable to tailgate, that’s it.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:40 AM
i don’t think it’s feasible for harder drugs to be legalized. there’s a higher risk of overdose and addiction, not to mention needles and disease transmission, so you’d need dedicated spaces like an opium den with trained on site EMT’s. there’s a huge liability risk for the owners of those establishments as well, and if they control the clientele to just the high end user who like to dabble you’re still putting the addicts on the streets looking for something to use.
i think overall we’d be better off legalizing weed and using the resources to concentrate on the Rx drug trade and some of the harder drug distribution.

I won’t be tailgating this weekend but have a 6er of Sumpin’ Sumpin’ Ale waiting for my Saturday afternoon. Bomber of Hop Stoopid for Friday night. Probably 312 for Thursday night.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:41 AM
Damn, there are so many good ones. I’d say that B’s BBQ in Greenville is probably my favorite for a number of reasons, but after that its a muddled list of awesomeness:
Kings in Kinston
Moores in New Bern
Wilburs or McCalls in Goldsboro
Parkers in Greenville (better sides than B’s)
plenty of others, but those are the standouts that come to mind at the moment. i’m sure i have forgotten some good ones
August 29th, 2012 at 9:41 AM
Instead of the sweet tea vodka, I usually just do a top shelf vodka mixed with the Arizona brand Arnold Palmer drink and top it off with a mint. The mint is crucial.

August 29th, 2012 at 9:42 AM
i still think the most satisfying way for Hank to find out, at least for me, would be Walt getting so brazen and careless he either leaves the heisenberg hat laying around or hank sees him wearing it casually and it all clicks.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:42 AM
Yeah I’ve done the old combine a bottle of vodka and big ocean spray cranberry bottle, throw a few limes in there. If it’s too strong for some, keep some cups and some 7-up bottles around, ladies can top off the cocktail with the 7-up.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:44 AM
Hold on, you guys really understand that 0% in a national poll doesn’t equal ZERO people right?? I believe Obama won 96% of the black vote in the last election. So saying Romney will win less than 1% isn’t far fetched seeing he’s seen as an even bigger “Uncle Tom” to the eyes of the public. Let’s say the voting public is around 90M, less than one person would mean about a Million black Romney voters. Again possible, but not far fetched to say he gets under 1% of the vote. The Zero percent in polling doesn’t mean ZERO people.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:44 AM
This is one area where global warming has helped, because I agree with you.
I have learned to play it by ear after October, with respect to tailgating outside or going to a bar before the game if I’m going. I’m old, so I won’t drink outside in the cold if I don’t have to.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:44 AM
Not meaning to rile up you Carolina types, but that vinegar-mustard stuff is not what I consider barbecue.
/ Team Texas BBQ
August 29th, 2012 at 9:45 AM
the cold fried chicken bucket is a damn good one. forgot about that.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:46 AM
I still don’t get where you find this “mustard” association with NC BBQ. It’s not an essential ingredient in either Eastern or Lexington BBQ.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:46 AM
Yeah, still firmly believe the program is on the upswing. But the late season schedule is also not pretty (for a team of their caliber) – including a trip to Missouri.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:46 AM
Dude, you are making me want to jump in the car and drive non-stop to North Carolina. Smithfields!!
August 29th, 2012 at 9:46 AM
DAMNIT, forgot about Boj. Probably my top non-cooking/show-up-with-it tailgate food, even over pork BBQ.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:46 AM
The Zero percent in polling doesn’t mean ZERO people.
In theory I’d presume they’d be rounding up. So that’s presuming he gets 0.49% at most.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:47 AM
The biggest thing that worries be beyond the Os is that the AL is so fucking good. Orioles are going supernova right now and only in the second WC spot by a half a game. There is no margin for error at all.
Have a real chance at delaying that collapse for another week or so with this 6 game roadie looking much easier as the Yanks lost Tex for 2 weeks and the Jays continue to send half their roster to the DL.

Fuck this summer.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:47 AM
Downside: it’s Greenville.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:47 AM
Every now and then you can snake those sunny 55 degree early November days here in Central PA. Only thing is, it’s dark by 5. So afternoon games make for a decent tailgate but a terrible game experience.
I dunno, bar or basement for me 99 percent of the time.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:47 AM
I’ve always wanted to experience a hardcore southern tailgate. I’ve done OSU & PSU, which are good — but I want to go to LSU, Ole Miss, ect. — those places look incredible.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:48 AM
As a northerner, the BBQ pissing matches between the south regions and Texas and Missouri is stupid. Shut the fuck up and just eat all the good damn food.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:48 AM
Regarding putting mustard in Q, I think that’s strictly a Souf Kerliner thing.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:48 AM
no, but it certainly won’t deliver a state or any bump in the electoral college, so it’s far come consequential.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:49 AM
I still think the ultimate in tailgating is the Indianapolis 500.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:49 AM

/These people are insane
August 29th, 2012 at 9:50 AM
Oh. That makes sense.
Well SC BBQ is inferior and should in no way be lumped in with NC.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:50 AM
conventions are for the bases, sure, but more than that, i think campaigns are for the bases as well as the dumb
thinking people don;t follow the cable news blindly and read only headlines and get their info from ads. plus, it’s not the ignorant who go to fact-check sites
politicians target campaigns to people who cannot/will not think for themselves
August 29th, 2012 at 9:50 AM
and where will you be tailgating next? I had no clue there was a Bojangles in Atlanta until recently.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:50 AM
I have never, ever seen mustard in any eastern or lexington style BBQ. You must be referring to SC stuff, I think. Lexington uses some ketchup in their slaw and some BBQ, but for the most part it isn’t even that noticeable. Also, as NC has been calling whole cooked hog “BBQ” for much, much longer, we will tell you texas folk what is and what isn’t “BBQ”. Some places call BBQ a food, some call it a grill, and others call it the act of using said grill. In NC, BBQ is a dead, slow cooked hog. Period.

It’s definitely be a shit-storm. the only thing i can’t stand with the show is Walt’s dialogue with Skyler. I DVR the show and usually blow by these scenes, it’s depressing.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:53 AM
Probably needed a question mark there.
August 29th, 2012 at 9:54 AM
Are we talking southern bbq or bbq of The South? And which one includes Texas and Oklahoma BBQ?
August 29th, 2012 at 9:54 AM
Cowboy Mike – Greenville really isn’t that bad. Sure, there are bad parts, but those are easily avoidable (like any decent sized town). B’s could be nestled between two crack dens, and I’d still go there every day if I still lived in Greenville.
Nino – Smithfields is a GREAT establishment, and i actually prefer their potato salad and BBQ chicken over almost anyone else. I’ll get a BBQ sandwich with potato salad on it instead of slaw. COT DAMN!

I can keep Rodgers for 61 or Foster for 75. 200 cap league.

I thoroughly enjoy texas-style meats (no coop). It’s different, and therefore needs to be thought of differently and not compared to OTHER styles but compared WITHIN said style. Also, I am going to Omaha for work next week and from what I have seen on Diners Drive-ins and Dives there is a GREAT place to get burnt ends from. Cant. effing. wait.

how many teams in the league? what’s the scoring for passing TD?
if it’s 6pts a passing TD you’ll get more points out of rodgers and that would be my choice.

For the BBQ fans out there, I thoroughly recommend this read and subsequently trying BBQ Hash. It’ll definitely open your eyes to some other approaches to pork.

God yes. They actually released the long versions of both Grindhouse movies and they were both good in their B-movie way. But Planet Terror was the better of the two. Honestly the Death Proof DVD is good b/c it shows how they did all the car stunts and that no movie pulled off that many car stunts as they did in that, all without CGI. It said all the stunt people were in their 60′s b/c they don’t do any of those stunts live anymore (or with regularity) so no young stunt people can pull them off.
August 29th, 2012 at 10:09 AM
yeah, go foster. at best rodgers will get you 100-120 points for TD’s, foster will get you more overall points with the yardage and RB’s aren’t as deep as it normally is this season.
lots of 2nd tier QB’s to get cheap in auction league.
August 29th, 2012 at 10:09 AM
The account in the Manhunt book differs somewhat from what the new SEAL book says. There was no firefight and OBL wasn’t armed. That much is in sync at least.
Also, as much as I hate to say it, the Justice Department should issue an injunction against publication of the book and the writer should face charges. You can’t just write an unauthorized book if you work for the SEALs. Huge problem for me.
August 29th, 2012 at 10:11 AM
I’ve never done an auction draft before so I expect I’ll fail horribly, might as well lock down one great player.
August 29th, 2012 at 10:11 AM
Went to a new BBQ place last weekend and put their mustard sauce on the pulled pork…was heavenly, there’s a place for it as the occasional change of pace

I’d take Rodgers. I think Rodgers is going to come back strong after the early exit in the Playoffs last year. Look for another monster year.

No one does sausage (no coop’d) or other pork products quite like Germany. Nothing like eating bratwurst and drinking german beer in Munich during Oktoberfest.

I loved Planet Terror — DeathProof was ehhh. Though I havent seen DeathProof since I saw it in the theatres. I loved the full length Machete movie. The other fake trailers were fantastic, especially Thanksgiving.
August 29th, 2012 at 10:15 AM
I love most of Tarantino’s movies, but DeathProof was horrible and was the ultimate Tarantino movie. Love the movies, hate the man.
August 29th, 2012 at 10:16 AM
Eli Roth says the Thanksgiving movie is still happening.
Planet Terror > Death Proof (although DP is underrated in the Tarantino canon)
August 29th, 2012 at 10:16 AM
Planet terror was fantastic. Deathproof was better after revisiting it. Still nothing great, but I enjoyed it more on second viewing. Machete was awesome. Thanksgiving is going to be made into a feature film which is great news.

Expect to see the Ricin again. Tried to kill Tuco and Gus with it and failed. Maybe Hank if he gets too close.
August 29th, 2012 at 10:18 AM
it is surprising, and some of the comments from the book make me think it’s in line with the whole swiftboating thing the GOP is attempting to do now with Obama
the guy has a lot more to worry about now that his name is floating around on jihad websites than a justice department injunction however.
August 29th, 2012 at 10:21 AM
why not? they know exactly what they’re doing when they write em.
August 29th, 2012 at 10:22 AM
i would be extremely disappointed if walt kills hank.
however, i think hank is smart enough to realize that if Walt is Heisenberg, he could have been responsible for the deaths of Gale and Gus so he’ll play it safe and not dick around with it. dont let on that you know, keep your distance, and take him down.

All the accounts of the SEALs raid just reminds me of the opening to Tropic Thunder about all the books written.

It wasn’t vetted by the Defense Department for classified information. You want to cash in, fine. But you’re a member of the military, and like it or not, there’s a process that must be followed.
August 29th, 2012 at 10:26 AM
I think over time we’ll learn that even the Seals are bad with not leaking out details on some of their operations.

I was thinking this might qualify under my controversial new pedophile rules… holy crap, she’s 23? I just always assumed she was 16… wasn’t she on Nickelodeon? Somewhere there is a cognitive disconnect.

Yeah, that shit is going to happen here and there. But actively writing a book on the subject without clearance bothers me. It would bother me if the SEAL took shots at Bush and it bothers me that he accuses Obama of using the raid for political gain.

Was hoping to make it to the App St. v. ECU game in G-Vegas, but sadly could not make it down there.
Re: Greenville. It is a fun town, but would never want to live there my whole life. The hood rats across the train tracks on the west side of 5th street are getting worse it seems.

The one man who made a difference five times before….is about to make a difference…again. Only this time, it’s different.
August 29th, 2012 at 10:34 AM
Oh I agree about the clearance and security issues.

I won’t be tailgating this weekend but have a 6er of Sumpin’ Sumpin’ Ale waiting for my Saturday afternoon. Bomber of Hop Stoopid for Friday night. Probably 312 for Thursday night.

Yeah I had it here at a Toronto German beer hall style bar. It was weird but I find myself craving it from time to time, that and the appropriate sized beers.
August 29th, 2012 at 10:36 AM
I’m planning on going to ASU/Furman in Boone in November. That will be a tailgating shitshow.

This wurst talk is making me miss Herwig’s Austrian Bistro in State College. Probably one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had.

Butcher’s Platter.
August 29th, 2012 at 10:43 AM
Ahh Boone, the ol’ Teachers College. Dad told me stories of going up there in the late 50′s to pick up girls since the ratio was like 12-1 girls to guys.

onions, sauerkraut, braised cabbage and good mustard are a must for my brats. Those 3 dipper crock pots are good holders for toppings. I also keep my grilled brats in a beer jacuzzi (a larger crock pot)- beer, horseradish mustard, onion and garlic.
When I make my own brats, I go for patties cause my stuffer sucks.
August 29th, 2012 at 10:45 AM
And now I’m talking lunch at 11:00est.

Buddy of mine went to Albuquerque and got to meet most of the cast of Breaking Bad and see some of the props like the RV and Walt’s old car,etc..
He said the actor that plays Hank (cant think of his name) was really cool, and a very nice guy. He said all the cast was great, he met Bryan Cranston, Mike and Gomez too.

Kazzy – you an App or ECU grad? ECU ’06 for me. Wont make it to the game this weekend because of a wedding, but was able to sell my tickets and parking pass for 165. Not a bad day.

He’s also a Harvard grad, if I’m not mistaken.

August 29th, 2012 at 10:59 AM
Doubtful. Would love to, but wife would probably be less than thrilled about me meeting up with random online folk and leaving her with the kids. Also, it’s her birthday that week, so I’m sure we’ll have something going on for that on the 6th.
August 29th, 2012 at 10:59 AM
