when players, programs, and fans stop campaigning for it. When nominees treat it like the BET Awards and don’t show up for it, then I’ll look into considering it useless or irrelevant. Until then, it remains one of the most prestigous awards in American sports.

I don’t disagree. But the award itself is useless. In no way does it represent the best of college football athletics in a given year. If they want the award to gain legitimacy, then they should change it to the Most Outstanding Quarterback, Running Back, Receiver, Cornerback Award. And really if you’re not a QB or an RB, you probably don’t have much of a chance at actually winning.

But I certainly agree that it’s marketed well and people completely buy into that marketing. Whether or not they should is another story.

If you’re a QB or RB with a handful of exceptions…they just need to stop marketing it as crowning the best player in the game since that’s not what they’re after

Based on the attention paid to it absolutely…when it’s out of the ordinary for a non-QB/RB to even make it to New York I don’t see how it can be taken seriously
