Rafael Soriano Blew the Save, Then Blew Off the Media, and You Just Can’t Do That in New York!
Rafael Soriano blew it! He served up a 9th inning homer in Toronto Monday night, and in extra innings the Yankees blew an opportunity to open up their lead in the AL East. Afterward, Soriano snuck out of the clubhouse faster than Usain Bolt runs the 100. The NY media hates that.
And yet he still has so much to prove about closing out big games, especially in the postseason, where Rivera was so often at his best.
One thing for sure: Soriano doesn’t handle himself in defeat the way his predecessor did. Nobody was more accountable or classier when he did blow one than Rivera.
Soriano should have paid more attention.
Wait, a pitcher with virtually no postseason experience – 7.2 innings – isn’t handling himself the same way as the greatest relief pitcher in baseball history? I’m floored.
But he’s always been considered a bit of a diva. Both Braves manager Bobby Cox and Rays skipper Joe Maddon had issues with Soriano when he played for them, and then there was the moody vibe he gave off during his first year with the Yankees, when he came over as the defending AL saves leader and wound up pitching the seventh inning.
Diva? Moody? The postseason can’t get here soon enough. [NYDN]

Sounds like the Yankees overbid on Rafael Soriano.

Maybe embarrased? Maybe dissapointed?
A dude blows a game, and he doesn’t wanna talk about it. Is that so wrong?

Didnt the Orioles win last night?
August 28th, 2012 at 11:30 AM
Vlad, heard you took Rice first overall last night….
August 28th, 2012 at 11:31 AM
Good. Untucking his jersey on the field after a save is the most juvenile thing I’ve seen. Well, other than Brett Lawrie’s tirade this year. It violates baseball etiquette and reminds of middle school kids taking jerseys off after losing a game, like it’s the NBA Finals.

Hahahaha, and Beckett thought he would have it easy out in La-La land. Simers would fit right in in Boston.
August 28th, 2012 at 11:32 AM
Yeah. It was him or McCoy.
August 28th, 2012 at 11:33 AM
I assume you’re basing those guys on the sheer number of touches?
August 28th, 2012 at 11:36 AM
Any time I hear someone “blew” a save, ever.
August 28th, 2012 at 11:36 AM
Ben Tate will take carries from Arian. Reid said McCoy was over used last year. And Joe Flacco sucks. 1st pick sucks when there isn’t a clear cut number 1 like back in the days of Faulk in LT.

Foster isn’t the healthiest of players either.
/stuck between Foster and Rice with first pick in PPR league on Sunday
August 28th, 2012 at 11:41 AM
His only issue was his hammy, and that was a year ago.
August 28th, 2012 at 11:42 AM
Foster isn’t the healthiest of players either.
I had the second pick last year and could have gone with either Foster or Johnson. I went with Johnson and spent the entire year regretting it. I may try to grab Foster this year though I pick, I think, 8th. If I do pick him, this of course means that he’ll blow his knee out in week 2.

Schaub is back too.
August 28th, 2012 at 11:45 AM
I don’t view this as a bad thing. He’s still a part of the passing game, and he’ll still get some dumps from Schaub.

I took “Schaub is back too” to mean that that will help Foster. Schaub is better than Yates in every way imaginable. Having a more consistent passer will open up the run game for Foster.

polishes arian foster pick. prepares to manage fantasy egos
August 28th, 2012 at 11:50 AM
Is there a TBL CFB pick ‘em league? If not, someone should start one.
August 28th, 2012 at 11:53 AM
What a douche.
August 28th, 2012 at 11:53 AM
I’d go with Rice, simply because you have certainty that he’s going to see the ball more consistently.
With Schaub back, that will open up the running game, no doubt. But how many carries/touches does Ben Tate get this year?
August 28th, 2012 at 11:53 AM
you know i’ve found that anger is the enemy of instruction
you don’t know the egos i have to deal with
you;re probably right

Not one damn link of this? I hate you all.

Hard to say. Foster has the new contract and has been, as far as I know, healthy. So there’s no real reason to keep Foster on the shelf. Tate was used more last year, I would think, because Schaub went down and Yates was inexperienced which led to an increased emphasis on the run game.
August 28th, 2012 at 11:58 AM
But how many carries/touches does Ben Tate get this year?
how does this matter? in other words, if tate was on the ravens, would you not choose rice? to me, having another running option is a good thing. yes he may take away touches, but foster will be fresher, perhaps healthier. when there’s one option only, the other team’s job is easier
August 28th, 2012 at 11:59 AM
now, in chicago, bush will take not only touches from forte but TDs, so that matters from a fantasy pov. but will tate take TDs from foster?

I listened to the audio.
I’m not a fan of Beckett, but TJ Simers is kind of an asshole. He was practically goading Beckett to punch him in the head.
I mean, how many times did Simers need to make the point about how quickly the ball left the park? Christ, Simers did everything there except quote Crash Davis going out to talk to Nuke LaLoosh about how something that travels so far should have a stewardess.
August 28th, 2012 at 12:03 PM
I think he could, yeah.
August 28th, 2012 at 12:04 PM
Kind of an asshole? He is the king of assholes. The way Beckett handled him is quite amazing.
August 28th, 2012 at 12:06 PM
That was just awkward to watch Simers try to drive the story in that direction.
August 28th, 2012 at 12:08 PM
Fucking hate this guy. I forget, is he still alive on WD?

I took Tate as my #3 RB in a 10-man draft last night (3rd pick, 8th round). The guy who had Foster (#1 overall) was about ready to come kill me.
Rivers, McCoy, Greene, Gronk, Nicks, AJ Green, Bryant (flex starter), CHI defense. It’s a QB driven and PPR league, so I took risk waiting and taking Rivers.
