According to the official MLB twitter account, both Adrian Gonzalez of the Red Sox and James Loney of the Dodgers have been scratched from their respective lineups, hours after the Dodgers were awarded a waiver claim on Adrian Gonzalez.

Gordon Edes of ESPN Boston has said that the deal will involve Gonzalez, along with Josh Beckett, Carl Crawford, and Nick Punto, in exchange for Loney and multiple prospects. Basically, Boston is going to walk away from Adrian Gonzalez in exchange for doing a NBA-type “get rid of bad contracts” deal where Boston gets to clear Beckett, Crawford and Punto out of town as well.

Whoa.

I’m sure Red Sox Nation will have no thoughts on this.
