It’s only the preseason. It’s only the preseason.

* In three quarters, the Jets’ first team offense has no touchdowns. Their No. 1 receiver, Santonio Holmes, hasn’t played a minute, which is the only acceptable explanation. Or maybe new OC Tony Sparano is saving everything for the regular season. Maybe? It’s only the preseason.

* Wayne Hunter, the right tackle who we’ve been shredding since the 2011 preview, was embarrassed by the Giants in the first half. Humiliated. It’s to the point he can’t capably block anyone remotely good, and the Jets will need to keep a tight end on his side to help block if they want Mark Sanchez to survive. It’s only the preseason.

* Punter TJ Conley, who had a kick blocked last week against Cincinnati, shanked one so badly in the 4th quarter it only went 19 yards. The next time out, he shanked another one. It went 23 yards. Special teams, through two games, have been poor for the Jets (Maybin did partially block a punt against the Giants, though). It’s only the preseason.

* The only positives I’ve seen from the team through eight quarters? The Wilkerson/Coples combo could do some things on the defensive line. I really like what I’ve seen from Kenrick Ellis at DT, too.

* Yes, it is only the preseason. These two games/results mean zilch. Put no stock in it. But I’ve studied this roster and feel like I have a pretty good sense of what the Jets have. (The only wild card is Sparano’s play-calling, which, given his history at Miami, is anything but wild.) I’m dangerously close to revising my season prediction from 7-9 to 6-10.
