Rowdy Roddy Piper Named Top Villain in WWE History
The WWE recently unveiled its “Top 50 Villains in Wrestling History” list, with Rowdy Roddy Piper emerging as the greatest villain of all time.
The jarring incident shown below with Jimmy Snuka on Piper’s Pit was a career-defining moment for him as one of the ultimate heels. If you saw this skit as a kid, it’s likely etched into your brain forever. While it would certainly be difficult to argue against Piper as anything but an endlessly memorable, tremendous villain, some other characters are also worthy of top billing.
Ric Flair is one name that obviously comes to mind as the greatest heel (he came in No. 2 overall). The Nature Boy’s entire career consisted of telling you just how much better he was than anyone else, and normally done so while removing a $3,000 suit and then proceeding to drop elbows on said suit while it innocently lay in the center of the ring. Flair also owns the world record for most stolen kisses.
My other three choices, and this obviously has a lot to do with the era in which I watched wrestling religiously, are Mr. Perfect, who once threw a touchdown pass to himself, Ravishing Rick Rude — Rude’s own likeness on his pants was the clincher — and the great Razor Ramon, aka Scott Hall, who implores you to say hi to the bad guy while dismissively throwing a toothpick into your face.

Ric Flair was the best heel. Tremendous promos, five star matches, ability to carry even the greenest/worst workers to decent matches. Piper’s nonsensical promos were compelling, but putting him ahead of Flair is a mistake. At the same time, it’s a WWE-produced list, so it doesn’t surprise me.

It’s the hubris of Vince McMahon at work. Since the overwhelming majority of Flair’s best heel work didn’t happen under the WWE umbrella he can’t be number one.

I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass…and I’m all out of bubblegum.

Ric Flair
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
/That is who did that, right? Haven’t watched wrestling since I was 12 or 13.
August 19th, 2012 at 6:13 PM
Flair was washed up before he got to the WWE.
/Team NWA.
//Macho Man is ridiculously low.

/Nukem’d
Buddy of mine told me that was actually a line from a movie before Duke Nukem came out. Can’t remember what he said it was called. Loved that game though.

Just saw the stats for last year’s deer seasons here in Delaware. Per square mile in this state, 19 deer got killed. Goin’ Yosemite Sam up on those mothafuckas!
August 19th, 2012 at 6:43 PM
Too many fucking deer in Michigan. Overpopulation is a bitch. Almost plugged a couple driving while up north this weekend.
August 19th, 2012 at 6:47 PM
Overpopulation is a bitch.
That’s the problem here. Small state, ton of deer. You get 4 doe/antlerless tags when you buy your license, then a quality buck tag and a shooter’s choice tag, after you use those up you can buy as many doe tags as you want, just have to buy them one at a time. I’ve never killed more than 2 deer in a year, but I know some people that have killed upwards of 15. It’s not a waste, though, before treehuggers come out of the woodwork. You keep what you want and then donate the rest to charities.

I don’t know if it’s the entire state but I know parts of New Jersey are like that, too. Can only kill 1 or 2 bucks a year but they’ll let you go ape shit on does to try and control the population.

End of that US AM final was great. That ball was half-way down for that kid on the 36th hole too. Suicide alert for Weaver.

Flair’s best work was in WCW. And he wasn’t in WWF long enough, I feel, to top the list. Piper at No. 1 sounds pretty good to me. Where was Andre the Giant, though?
August 19th, 2012 at 6:59 PM
Where was Andre the Giant, though?
They couldn’t get him to fit on the list.

Savage was criminally low. And why are “The Four Horsemen” even on this list? They weren’t in the WWF. At least, not for any lengthy stretch of time. Mr. Perfect got hosed as well. Dude was a heel his ENTIRE CAREER and he’s below Jake the Snake and Mr. McMahon? GTFO…
August 19th, 2012 at 7:02 PM
Holy fuck, 45?!?!? That’s even worse than putting Savage at 49!!!! Are these WWF guys fucking serious???
/shouldn’t care this much
//does anyway

‘Hollywood’ Hulk Hogan was only a villain in WWF for maybe 3 months. He became a good guy right after the match with The Rock. How the hell does he get on this list?
August 19th, 2012 at 7:12 PM
I used to get riled up over the lists the morons at WWE.com put together. Not anymore. They have made some ignorant fucking lists too. I’m not even gonna look at this one.

ATLDan knows.
In the period I watched wrestling, Ric Flair then Arn Anderson. Midnight Express is up there. The WWF was just a flamboyant joke of an organization. It was like the original Real Housewives.
Should be noted, I quit watching wrestling in 1992.
August 19th, 2012 at 7:18 PM
The reason they include people that weren’t in the WWE is because they own most of the companies that were around back then and their video libraries. Therefore, they include people like the Four Horsemen..because technically they are under the WWE umbrella now.
August 19th, 2012 at 7:23 PM
flair will always be an NWA/WCW guy to me. and as we all know, Vince makes it a point to piss on the history of that organization on any chance he can get.
August 19th, 2012 at 7:29 PM
What about Doink and Goldust!?
August 19th, 2012 at 7:29 PM
I’d have Hollywood Hogan as #1 on the list, but I’m extremely biased.
August 19th, 2012 at 7:30 PM
Edge is on the list? Fuck that. no one has ever given two shits about fucking Edge.
August 19th, 2012 at 7:50 PM
Million Dollar Man and Mr. Perfect were the best heels during the WWF years. They were fun to hate.

Meth, the movie was They Live. Piper played the main character Nada, who you may be familiar with from TBLAD.

Meth, the movie was They Live.
Why can I not crack a joke with someone giving me an explanation?
August 19th, 2012 at 8:40 PM
without*

IIRC, this isn’t the first time someone has been unsure of your level of seriousness. I wasn’t trying to be the information police. What would I know, for I am merely a caveman?
Anywho, it’s worth checking out if you haven’t seen it.
August 19th, 2012 at 8:51 PM
IIRC
Well now I don’t mind an explanation. Because I’ve seen that used before. Never knew it was referring to me.

Anyone who watched ECW knows Raven should be top 10 maybe even top 5 on this list.
