Are you looking at end of year numbers? Texas and Ohio State were not even #1 preseason in those years. Ohio State was preseason AP #13 the year they won.

goddamnit. I clicked “preseason” but it resets to final rankings when you change the year. What a nice waste of time by me.

But the point is even stronger then.

In 2006, the top 6 teams all got a vote. In 2008 and 2011, the top 5 did. In 2010 the 5th and 7th teams did. And in 2005, #12 Louisville got a first-place vote.

This isn’t really a big deal or that much of a limb.

The three unanimous picks: Alabama (2009), Texas (2005), Ohio State (2002)

Five teams represent the most teams with a first-place vote, and #8 represents the lowest team to get a vote in the last 10 years.
