Barnwell’s piece on NFL vs. MLB mortality is a great example of perfectly valid statistics used without much scientific thought. The idea is nice, and the statistical tests are surprisingly appropriate. But the methods and analysis of the cohorts aren’t particularly well-thought out.

Skins have a tough division and IND, STL, MIN and Buffalo have obvious (at least to me) favorites (HOU, SF, GB, and NE). Plus Cleveland is terrible.

I do like Tampa Bay this year, but probably more as a wild card team because I really like Atlanta as well.

There’s too much sharp money out there to play those games, IMO.

I can’t imagine Sharps making enough future bets on SB winner to move the line. They are too smart for that. Most of that money, especially this time of year, is from the public and it is going on typically public teams.

On the margin that may come into play (an 8:1 big market team vs. a 9:1 small market, etc.), but those are huge gaps between the 3 teams in each division.

Sure they have longer odds, but come on Rusty, you know those odds are less about what Vegas thinks will happen and more about them trying to make the most money. Also, winning a SB and winning a division are two different things.

NFC East: Giants (20:1), Eagles (8:1), and Cowboys (20:1)
NFC South: Falcons (25:1), Saints (15:1), and Panthers (40:1)
