Any win in Mexico is legit. The stadium is about 7000 feet above sea level. There are 100,000 fans in the place and hundreds of them can’t wait to throw bags of urine (yes, BAGS OF URINE) at our players when they cocme onto the field. I wasn’t thrilled with the roster when it was announced, but Klinsmann finally showed the ability to mix up tactics (i.e. play a defensive style) and got a massive result. Any time you can send 100,000 Mexican fans home angry is a good thing, be it at the Rose Bowl or, especially, at the Azteca.
Nice review by Ty Duffy. My only quibble is that Tim Howard will be the starter as long as he is breathing. There is no back-up. We used to have too many goalkeepers, now we can’t even produce a capable No. 2?
I’m not sure why Juan Agudelo has fallen off the face of the earth, but he most certainly has. Tim Ream has joined him. We could use some defenders with speed.

Davies’ US career is probably over. Better options, and youngsters (Boyd, others will be coming up).
Altidore and Gomez have shored up the other spot if it’s 4-4-2.

I wonder if the Mexico team felt the lack of experience in the back line would be best exploited with the aerial play. They did have some open headers that were not put home.

Counter to that is Cameron is 6’3″ and Edu is 6’0″. Most of Mexico’s players were not.

For Defense lets hope 1 of Ream, Gonzo, John, Brooks, Hines steps up and takes over for Boca as his lack of speed scares me and I doubt he will be faster in 2014. I still think Chandler will play for the US again and it looks like Lichaj will start as a LB for Villa in the premier league which should be good cover for the LB/RB postition

I think Danny Williams will start over 1 of Edu and Jones soon enough. Edu like you said is just there and needs to play in a better leageu while Jones is usually anonymous before he makes a dumb foul and gets a yellow card.

Mexico had the better possesion and run of play, but it was a legit goal, and Howard made some great saves. On the road it was a legit win.

Mexico was controlling run of play but not doing much with it. For some reason decided crossing was the most advantageous strategy (it wasn’t). Draw was probably the fairest result.

On that note, I didn’t watch the game, and don’t know a ton about soccer. I heard the forward touches were incredibly lopsided last night. Is that indicative of a lucky win that the keeper pulled out for his overmatched team, or just a function of the style of the game.

Agudelo has not done anything for Chivas in LA. I have not seen many games, any ideas why so ineffective?
