Excellent, it’s gonna be a good day. Love the posterior shot above. I know her baggage and I don’t care, she can get it.
August 15th, 2012 at 8:18 AM
How does a Scrabble cheater think they won’t get caught? There’s only a set number of blank tiles in the game, if all of a sudden 5 show up on the board you’d expect people that into Scrabble would notice
August 15th, 2012 at 8:21 AM
This goes against everything you believe about competitive balance in MLB

Check out the dude getting a smooch around the :40 sec clip. She’s probably and unclean virgin, and they shot/hung him when he got back to his native country.

Maybe he’s making an assumption of what their next logical step would be after their current attempt to purge the rolls of Negro and Latino voters. Or maybe he was really talking about banks having all of us in financial bondage and the creators and most expert players of the race card are using the spectre of race to take away from that message.
August 15th, 2012 at 8:27 AM
I heard Miz actually wrote a post about the scrabble cheater

Pfft. Too early for Collier to panic. The sky isn’t falling. With a second wild-card, they aren’t done. Breathe, man.

first thought – WHOA.
second thought – that many tigers and they only get one goat?
third thought – why didn’t they release it somewhere else in the pen and at least make the pack chase it down.
August 15th, 2012 at 8:39 AM
That cap’s working wonders…somehow with more playoff spots the NBA playoffs are always more predictable before the season even starts
August 15th, 2012 at 8:43 AM
Looks to me someone snuck it in there and tossed it over the fence. You can hear later on after the frenzy someone yelled something like ” your going to hell for that “.
August 15th, 2012 at 8:43 AM
I like that you’re posting pictures of porn actresses.
August 15th, 2012 at 8:44 AM
I always seem to forget that the Rays have made the playoffs 3 of the past 4 years. And that the A’s, Pirates, Reds are all small to mid-market teams. But yeah, we need a salary cap to destroy the players asking for more money and allow the owners to become richer. Give me a break Jason.
August 15th, 2012 at 8:44 AM
This. I think baseball is the most fucked of the Big 3 sports, but there are three teams right now with a realistic shot to win the NBA title — Miami, LA, and OKC. Baseball has more despite fewer playoff spots.
August 15th, 2012 at 8:45 AM
This article matches my anecdotal experience perfectly.
20 years ago, I knew a handful of people (mostly misanthropes) that identified as atheist.
Now, I’d say they account for a little less than half of the people I know and interact with daily.

i do find it funny the presidential ticket for the gop, who is (as you mention), currently working to disenfranchise minority and poor voters, would claim the democratic ticket with a black president is being racist.

Baseball is prone to hot pitchers and hitting slumps. In Football, there is no playoff series. In Hockey, you have the hot goalkeeper. None of those factors really apply in Basketball,so you’re more likely to see the best teams win year in and year out.

Romney did the same thing when he was down in the south. Saying “Y’all” and claiming he tried grits and biscuits and gravy. Its like dude, shut up.
August 15th, 2012 at 9:04 AM
I get that, doesn’t take away from the fact that small market teams still have to get OKC lucky in the draft in order to contend…when you look at the talent pooling together in Miami and LA that seems to go against the very thing a salary cap is supposed to put an end to
August 15th, 2012 at 9:05 AM

Is there any reason the UNC academic scandal and the Shabazz not making the trip to UCLA aren’t national news? I know the Shabazz story broke just last night, but if either of this things happened at Kentucky, they’d be scrolling across the bottom of the screen with BREAKING NEWS attached.
I’m not a big fan of Gregg Doyel, but he ripped UNC in his latest column. First time, other than J-Mac, I’ve seen a national news writer even mention anything about it.

other than banning free agency, how would you propose to ban or limit player movement? The NBA has had OKC, San Antonio, Detroit, and Orlando win or be in the NBA Finals in the past 10 years. In reality you can also add the Jersey Nets to that list.
San Antonio, Detroit, OKC, Orlando, Cleveland-

August 15th, 2012 at 9:26 AM
The NBA rules are actually pretty favorable in terms of restricting player movement. The Carmelos and Howards of the world are just not of the mindset of ‘this team/city drafted me, I’m going to bring them a ring’ that existed 2 generations ago (the Jordan, Isiah, Bird, Magic one). You’ll notice that Durant and Duncan are more old school, and only have asked that their current teams do their best to give them help. They don’t need to be on billboards too or have another superstar to make it easier.
I thought Lebron would take the old school route, but he didn’t. There’s never been anything you could do to restrict player movement when the player had power, was wanted by others and was being stubborn to the point of poisonous to their current team.
August 15th, 2012 at 9:26 AM
I’m more interested in what will happen after the DOE is done with their investigation into Penn State not following the rules of the Clery Act. Somehow, that one keeps getting missed in all this. Those penalties could dwarf the NCAA ones.
August 15th, 2012 at 9:27 AM
This.
Went to Nantucket a few years ago, great place but too many guys walking around with sweaters tied around their necks. I’m sure their last names were “the third”.
August 15th, 2012 at 9:28 AM
Even while struggling the last week the Pirates would still be in the Wild Card Playoff right now.
You know, the new system which Lisk and you mocked the Pirates’ brass for saying gave them a better chance to make the playoffs?
August 15th, 2012 at 9:29 AM
I’ve never been to Nantucket, but would someone go there not expecting a bunch of rich douchebags? kind of like going to bonaroo and bitching about all the hippies.
August 15th, 2012 at 9:30 AM
Eliminate max salaries for Bird rights players, and player movement among the mega-stars would end immediately.
If Lebron has to choose between Cleveland for $21 million, or Miami for $20.5 million, he’ll go with Miami.
If it’s Cleveland for $30 million, or Miami for $20.5 million, he’s still a Cav.
August 15th, 2012 at 9:30 AM
Trey!!!
August 15th, 2012 at 9:31 AM
You mean before they were actually allowed to leave via free agency. How honorable.
Because they managed to land with teams that knew what they were doing and surrounded them with talent. And Durant just signed that new deal, lets see how happy he is in a few years.

it’s great. I go to the gym 3 times a week and run the other 2 at home. the meathead ratio at the gym in the morning is way lower than after work. not as much eye candy, but a lot easier to get in and get done and not have to wait around for equipment. just be prepared to be hungry all damn day.

I workout at the 24 hour X on the corner of Walnut\Ivy. It’s walking distance to my place, $55 a month, and is open most of the week. Though being called 24 Hour X and closing at 6pm on Saturday and Sunday is quite misleading at first.
August 15th, 2012 at 9:47 AM
You are surprised by this?
August 15th, 2012 at 9:48 AM
I love 24 hour places, might have to check that out. Trying to stay the fuck away from the huge chain gyms around the city, plus I love a good odd hours of the day workout.
Might just start fighting the Amish guys that hang outside the children’s hospital. A good bare knuckle fight is nice for the core.

All of this. In fact the meathead ratio was 0 — the usual crew of meatheads that go at night (which I’m sure are exactly the same dudes at every gym across the country) were nowhere in sight. No twentysomething females though — gotta take the good with the bad.
August 15th, 2012 at 9:49 AM

I didn’t say all players.
And maybe I’m wrong – maybe the players were the same, but the system was too different. That’s just not how it played out. Jordan took a pay cut so the Bulls could sign Dennis Hopson. Lebron took a pay cut to play with Dwyane Wade.

I lift early in thenmorning, and I’d rather run in the AM, but I will have an afternoon run every once in a while. Right now I’m lifting 3x a week, and running 3x a week, all at home. I just don’t have time to go to a gym.
August 15th, 2012 at 9:59 AM
The best non school gym I’ve had was in State College after I graduated. It was a gutted strip mall that got turned into a gym, so it was very oddly designed, but it was cheap and had every piece of equipment imaginable.
Then I went back to ASU and they had a brand new state of the art four story gym with pools and climbing walls … twelve pieces of cardio equipment and no fly machines. What the fuck.

you really need a gym membership for this? why not jog to a jungle gym and sub some bodyweight squats, lunges, pushups and pullups for the kettlebell swings?
you don’t need a membership that’s 50% more expensive than a regular gym to do crossfit…
August 15th, 2012 at 10:08 AM
cant argue with that. i just hate high socks.
August 15th, 2012 at 10:08 AM
I assume spencer means what they charge vs their costs. It’s drastically more money than a traditional gym, with much less overhead and expenses.
August 15th, 2012 at 10:08 AM
Same thing with Shadyside. IIRC, Shadyside was Mr. Rogers’ neighborhood, literally and figuratively.
I believe that Fred Rogers — legend — lived in Squirrel Hill. Close enough.

Or both in this one Memphis Monroe movie.

I’m going with “tennis”, final answer.

i know kim k is a whore that uses her ragged out front bottom to get famous, but she is just insanely hot.
August 15th, 2012 at 10:10 AM
Because people don’t do it on their own.
August 15th, 2012 at 10:10 AM
Was Rogers short for Rogerstein?
I played hoops with my girlfriend on the courts at Negley and Wilkins last weekend and this ginger Jew shows up and is balling out of his fucking mind.
August 15th, 2012 at 10:11 AM
That would have been Fred Rogerstein
August 15th, 2012 at 10:13 AM
Damnit, moleman.
I used to play ball at Mellon Park (5th and Penn) courts. Always used to be pretty good games up there.
August 15th, 2012 at 10:13 AM
I have a friend that owns two crossfit gyms. Everyone I know who does it is in significantly better shape but I attribute that as much to the team work and group influence on each other as anything else. To me, that’s the biggest difference between it and a regular gym membership.
Also, Spencer’s workout regimen is Dunkin Donuts, illegal drugs, pizza, and 100 reps at the driving range, so his method is waaaay more expensive.
August 15th, 2012 at 10:13 AM
Some of those crossfit workouts are not safe. You shouldn’t be doing exercises like snatch to failure.
August 15th, 2012 at 10:14 AM
Hahahahahahaha
August 15th, 2012 at 10:15 AM
lol…those without self motivation and evaluation skills aren’t long for crossfit. WODKILLAZ.

SHUT UP I JUST HIT A PR WITH 20 KIPPING PULLUPS.

August 15th, 2012 at 10:17 AM
Then do less weight, and you won’t get to failure.
I think the bigger issue is that high reps of power movements while fatigued can be counterproductive.

I played in a summer league there a few years back — really good games.

DEFTONES
August 15th, 2012 at 10:19 AM
That’s the same thing as going to failure, IMO. If you’re doing high reps of snatches after sprinting 400M or whatever, no way are you maintaining good form.
August 15th, 2012 at 10:21 AM
Although, to be fair, in the 3 weeks I’ve been doing it, anytime there’s been a power movement exercise, the reps have always been 10 or less.
Most of the criticism comes from people standing on the outside with their Jump to Conclusions mats.
August 15th, 2012 at 10:21 AM
pssh…form isn’t important for olympic lifts.

my criticism comes from the corporate structure, that’s all. ive been doing a modified version of the WOD for tdhe past two years and am in fairly ok shape. just don’t wanna spend $80+/mo on a limited membership…
August 15th, 2012 at 10:25 AM
Uh-oh. Time for an intervention before he becomes fully converted
August 15th, 2012 at 10:26 AM
And like I said, I can’t argue against that. I had been doing the same as you, and to be honest if it wasn’t for my wife, I’d still be doing the same. But since I’m doing it, I might as well push myself and get the most out of it.
August 15th, 2012 at 10:30 AM
the worst part about crossfit are the people who do it and then want to tell you all about it, and how bad ass the workout was.
kind of like people who run half’s or full marathon and go straight home and plaster 13.1/26.2 stickers all over their vehicle.

of course…otherwise it’s just a waste of time.
August 15th, 2012 at 10:30 AM
Prediction: you will not hear 10% of the outrage from the Happy Valley folks over this that you heard over the football sanctions.
August 15th, 2012 at 10:35 AM
You’re referring to how the media and internet will cover that story, thus demonstrating less outrage and voice over this, right? Of course that’s what you mean.

Does she compete in the Crossfit Games? Shamefully, I watch them religiously. I might “know” her.
August 15th, 2012 at 10:40 AM

THIS. No way I’d be where I am today if it weren’t for 45 other guys constantly pushing each other.

In Biblical terms?
August 15th, 2012 at 10:41 AM
there’s a very thin, fine line between being ultra hot crossfit chick and freaky scary crossfit chick…but god damn, ill rifle thru just about any gallery with volleyball shorts and sports bra clad fit chicks doing a bunch of kipping pullups.

Couple of things:
PSU won’t lose its accreditation. But accrediting bodies go after smaller, less powerful schools all the time for even less stuff and hit them with such warnings. They don’t want to seem like they are playing favorites… and they simply shouldn’t play favorites.
The other is that everyone in higher ed hates Penn State. It’s more than the whole ‘we are’ thing. Without Paterno and football, it would simply be another mediocre directional land-grant school… which is essentially what it is academically. Their arrogance about how great they are in everything just really rubs people the wrong way in academia, it’s up there with Notre Dame people and anyone who is from the state of Texas.
So there is also an element of payback and kicking Penn State while its down. The accreditation warning is a bit of well-deserved humiliation for PSU because they are so good at making everyone else feel like they aren’t as good because they didn’t go there.
I will tell you this, though: Penn State better hope none of Sandusky’s victims make it to civil court. Freeh didn’t have subpoena power, but they will. There are certainly a lot of stones un-turned there, more to horrifying stuff to find out. The only way PSU can control it to any degree is to settle with all his victims… which isn’t likely to happen.

First time, long time lurker. Tried Crossfit and hated it. However, the wife is in tremendous shape and loves it. She also runs 2-3 marathons a year, puts her medals in her drawer and acts like it was no big deal.
August 15th, 2012 at 12:52 PM
kind of like people who run half’s or full marathon and go straight home and plaster 13.1/26.2 stickers all over their vehicle.
These people and the ones who post their workouts on FB or Twitter annoy the shit out of me. Guess what? I did the same thing, but didn’t feel the need to tell everyone about it.
August 15th, 2012 at 12:54 PM
Yep. Nothing like seeing everyone’s mapmyrun route all over Facebook. Or worse, the people who add comments so you know how the run went and how they felt about it.
August 15th, 2012 at 12:59 PM
Neither I nor my wife has* a 13.1/26.2 sticker on our cars. Though I have a feeling if my wife gets a BQ time, that might merit bragging.
* I think that’s grammatically correct, believe it or not.

Late as shit, but fuck that sentimate. I was pushing close to 4 bills a few years ago, started to workout and run, and now run 5k’s, 10k’s, and half’s. I have all my bibs on a wall, all my medals on a wall, and I have the annoying sticker, too. I don’t give a shit, it makes me happy and, honestly, it makes the people who knew me when I was a fat fuck happy, too. I do well in school and I refused all graduations because they are long and boring and refuse to hang my diploma’s because, I guess, I just don’t give a shit about that, it was easy. But it wasn’t easy to run three halfs and all that.
August 15th, 2012 at 4:15 PM
