Chad Johnson, who was arrested Saturday following an incident with his wife, was released by the Dolphins, according to Jay Glazer. [UPDATE: The Dolphins have made if official.]

If you saw the first episode of Hard Knocks, and how disappointed new coach Joe Philbin was with Johnson’s expletive-filled press conference [UPDATE: added below], this move comes as no surprise. The Dolphins could have waited to see how Johnson’s story unfolded – not all the facts are available yet – but decided to end this disaster of a signing before it became a distraction.

On the plus side, Hard Knocks is about to get really good.

The top Miami receivers headed into the season: Davone Bess, Legedu Naanee, Roberto Wallace and Brian Hartline. Oh, and their QB options are Matt Moore or rookie Ryan Tannehill. Good luck with that.

The guess here? Nobody touches Johnson, who had talent a few years ago, but decided to push his brand instead of focusing on football, and basically turned into a clown.
