Lane Kiffin Said He Wouldn’t Vote His USC Trojans No. 1 … Then He Did Vote Them No. 1
Lane Kiffin, a week before the USA Today coach’s poll came out:
“I would not vote USC No. 1, I can tell you that,” he told reporters.
Now that the poll has been revealed, guess who Kiffin voted for? USC, of course.
But wait! Here’s what he really meant:
Kiffin told USA TODAY Sports by phone Thursday night that he didn’t think the quote misrepresented his vote. By saying what he did, Kiffin said he meant that he wouldn’t vote USC No. 1 if he were in the media or coaching another team. Because of NCAA-imposed scholarship restrictions, USC is operating with 75 scholarship players, 10 less than the regular maximum of 85.
Glad that’s settled.

I didn’t know Tosh was the coach of USC.
/obligatory.
There are more players at the PGA that are +10 or worse today (11) than there are under par (9).

Wait, how did we find this out? Oh, USA Today revealed what has been confidential voting except for the final poll. The USA Today that owns this site now, and apparently from what I’ve read on other sites, did gild the lily if not outright misquote him initially. Nothing self-serving by USA Today about that though, right?

The ol’ “everyone is counting us out, but I’m not” spiel. It makes sense.
He said it from the basis that “the media is counting us out because we have ten fewer scholarships, but they don’t know what I know about this team.”
Way to pull an ESPN and make a story of nothing.
