in their defense, they did regulate the springlike effect on the clubface, which was great.

they could’ve had a standardized playing field set in the 80′s and 2000′s but the USGA and R&A didn’t do anything and now were here.

Seems like to change the game by doing that, right? The essence of golf seems to be how you take your skill set and translate it to varying conditions and courses. I realize you’re saying technology takes some of that away. How could they have standardized?

the world #1 doesn’t have a major and is a complete anomaly. tiger, rory, westy, bubba, adam scott and justin rose are all in the top 10 and bombers and webb simpson, dufner and kuchar aren’t exactly short either.

and luke is so stellar in every other area, he can overcome that lack of driving. same with stricker and ZJ. but then you can have guys like keegan, dustin and fowler who can just wail away and have very little refined skill…take that forgiveness away and lets see how low they can go.

technology does help, but does it CHANGE the sport? no. basketball hoops are the same size, outfields roughly similar, football fields the same size, etc…

but in golf, technology’s changed the very way the game is played. before it was about skill and accuracy and strategy…now it’s about bombing and gouging and who’s got the hottest putter. kinda like watching the nba in the 80′s and early 90′s vs. the hideous early 00′s.
