Dawn Harper and Kellie Wells, American Hurdler Medalists, Reveal Salty Jealousy About Lolo Jones
Dawn Harper captured the silver in the 100 m hurdles, and Kellie Wells took bronze. Lolo Jones, another American, finished 4th. Leading up to the games, the media choose to focus on Jones, who was arguably the most popular American athlete at the Games. Harper and Wells, clearly jealous of all the attention Jones received, got in a few subtle digs this morning in an interview with Michelle Beadle:
Dawn Harper: ” … because their favorite didn’t win, we’re kind of going to push your story aside … it hurt my feelings … you kinda gotta respect it a little bit now.”
As if nobody respected Harper before? Whatever.
Kellie Wells: “On the podium tonight, the three girls that got their medal prevailed, and that’s all that really needed to be said.”
Jealously is an ugly, ugly thing.

Is this really jealousy? Or is it more of an athlete thinking they are the best at what they do and wanting the respect that goes with it?
August 8th, 2012 at 10:33 AM
Meow!
August 8th, 2012 at 10:33 AM
The video isn’t working, but I’m sure they were asked loaded questions. It would suck to reach the pinacle of your sport, and then get peppered with questions about your teammate that finished after you.
August 8th, 2012 at 10:35 AM
Can you blame them? They have actually won something in the Olympics, but everyone just wants to talk about the pretty 4th place finisher. I’d sure as hell be pissed about it.
August 8th, 2012 at 10:36 AM
they should get hotter if they want more attention. if performance was the only barometer, jason dufner would have all of camilo villegas’ publicity.
August 8th, 2012 at 10:37 AM
sounds like they are salty at the media, not Lolo.
August 8th, 2012 at 10:37 AM
What do you think of Happy Gilmore?
I didn’t see him play. I was too busy winning.
But a 450-yd drive, that’s pretty impressive.
Yeah, where did he finish again? Dead last? Yeah, he had a good day.
August 8th, 2012 at 10:38 AM
the video is down. are either of these chicks hot?
August 8th, 2012 at 10:38 AM
On the podium tonight, the three girls that got their medal prevailed
uh, well yeah.
August 8th, 2012 at 10:39 AM
Dawn Harper probably shouldn’t have said that. Kellie Wells’ comment is rather innocuous and you’re misconstruing it to create additional support.
Phelps. Jones probably isn’t even the most popular woman. The footie girls have established quite the buzz for a team that hasn’t won anything yet. Misty May and Kerri Walsh are 2 time defending champions in beach volleyball. Serena Williams’ fame extends outside of the sport of tennis. Missy Franklin has become a magnetic figure at these Games. She won, too.
Lolo Jones’ “fame” is a facade. She’s more famous for losing at the Olympic Games than anything else. Having read Lisk’s piece last week, I now know she won at the college level and in World Championships. At the Olympics, she’s popular for failing which I suppose is an impressive feat in its own right.
August 8th, 2012 at 10:40 AM
That’s how I construed their remarks as well.
August 8th, 2012 at 10:40 AM
any word on what the silver and bronze medalists had for breakfast?
August 8th, 2012 at 10:41 AM
Harper won a Gold in China and a Silver here. Wells won a Medal in London. Jones won??? Why would they be jealous of Jones. They were taking a shot at the media and its coverage, something you should be familiar with.
August 8th, 2012 at 10:41 AM
I think she’s more famous for being attractive, posing nude, and being a virgin.
August 8th, 2012 at 10:41 AM
Not at 100m, at 60m, which they don’t even run in the Olympics.
August 8th, 2012 at 10:42 AM
If she wasn’t attractive and had a cutesy nickname (her real name is apparently Lori), she probably would have never been brought to our attention to begin with.
August 8th, 2012 at 10:42 AM
What is the status of their vaginal canals are they closed for Jebus or open for Bacchus?
August 8th, 2012 at 10:43 AM
This is my favorite thing in sports coverage, reporter asks such a question, gets the answer they want and then report on it without revealing the question to properly frame the conversation
August 8th, 2012 at 10:43 AM
I’m sure Aaron Rodgers feels the same way about Tim Tebow.
August 8th, 2012 at 10:46 AM
“Given the media attention given to Lolo, how do you feel about her finishing behind you in 4th place?”
*brusque answer*
Tomorrow’s headline: Athlete overly sensitive about Lolo’s finish!
August 8th, 2012 at 10:46 AM
That too. Athletically, and at her chosen profession, she’s famous for being a disappointment.
August 8th, 2012 at 10:46 AM
Duff Dog got a shot this week in South Cackalacky?
/Final Major starts tommorow
August 8th, 2012 at 10:47 AM
i hope so…took dufner in my pickem league.
August 8th, 2012 at 10:47 AM
To me, no. But in all fairness, Lolo does nothing for me either.

August 8th, 2012 at 10:47 AM
who was arguably the most popular American athlete at the Games
Woah. Someone made this argument? I’d agree if you qualified as “female track and field” athlete.
August 8th, 2012 at 10:47 AM
Agreed. Pointing out their “jealousy”, coupled with the current lead story on the home page, is hilarious.
August 8th, 2012 at 10:47 AM
fixed.
/Besides the ones SouvenirCity mentioned, there was also Lebron, Durant, Kobe etc etc.
August 8th, 2012 at 10:47 AM
Leading up to the games, the media choose to focus on Jones, who was arguably the most popular American athlete at the Games.
I’m glad you put “arguably” in there. Because she isn’t close to being the most popular American athlete at the games. Most people never heard of her prior to her HBO interview.
Serena
Misti and Kerri who have been around forever
The entire Men’s basketball team.
August 8th, 2012 at 10:47 AM
Vladdy….delmas having knee surgery? Nice d backfield
August 8th, 2012 at 10:48 AM
Absolutely shocking take on the media darling and Tim Tebow of female athletes by Jason.
Sad.
August 8th, 2012 at 10:48 AM
Seriously team girls who get there Bacchus on.
Hey girl, I hear you run fast but do you ever take it real, real slow? When’s the last time you got piss wasted in bed in a toga?
August 8th, 2012 at 10:49 AM
The hour or so I watched of that game against Canada was awesome. By far the most enjoyment I’ve had watching anything so far this Olympics. I hate Soccer, but am psyched for tomorrows game.

It said something about publishing before and now it says content removed because of terms of use violation.
August 8th, 2012 at 10:50 AM
In Firefox, hit refresh, still get “Content rejected. This video has been removed due to a breach of the Terms of Use.”
August 8th, 2012 at 10:51 AM
Serena
Misti and Kerri who have been around forever
The entire Men’s basketball team.
Agree – a lot of people had heard of Michael Phelps as well.
August 8th, 2012 at 10:51 AM
I had never heard of her until this morning. I now know she is a virgin and she looks like Sheryl Crow fucked something
August 8th, 2012 at 10:51 AM
I get the same thing.
August 8th, 2012 at 10:51 AM
A silver and a bronze mean you’ve won “something” now? Such a sliding narrative.
Maybe people will finally get off Dan Marino’s back.
August 8th, 2012 at 10:51 AM
I figured these two would be happy with LoLo. She’s brought attention to them, the sport and specifically to their event and yet she’s very beatable. If it wasn’t for Ms. Jones, do you really think these two would be getting the attention and the interview requests they are right now?
August 8th, 2012 at 10:52 AM

How is this jealousy again?
/duckworth’d
video not working? I just clicked refresh and watched it again.
I can’t see this video, nor the NBC video posted here. I went to USA TODAY and tried to watch the Lolo Jones crying thing, but that wouldn’t load on my computer either.
August 8th, 2012 at 10:55 AM
I am, however, a huge fan of Misty-May’s rear end.
August 8th, 2012 at 10:57 AM
But yet you don’t hear any other golfers complaining or blaming the media about all the attention he still receives.

FINALLY…The Breesus…HAS COME BACK…to say the Saints aren’t getting enough attention!
/brohugs
August 8th, 2012 at 11:00 AM
If Tiger retires today, he is one of the greatest golfers of all time. If LoLo retires today she is……………. That’s the difference.
August 8th, 2012 at 11:00 AM
Not the one covered in painters tape, but the other one, YES
August 8th, 2012 at 11:00 AM
Tebow turns the other cheek to criticism, and doesn’t bask in the adulation. She is the opposite of that.
August 8th, 2012 at 11:01 AM
Noooooooooooo.
is that pronounced New?
/sc, comfort vladdy please
August 8th, 2012 at 11:02 AM
Has Lolo Jones ever physically taken a knife to a penis? No, Tebow is a menace.
August 8th, 2012 at 11:02 AM
Reason? $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
August 8th, 2012 at 11:02 AM
They’re running all over the world getting paid regardless. Jones doesn’t have an affect on track money, because she is an American story not a world story.
August 8th, 2012 at 11:02 AM
the cutler-cavallari baby is out!
August 8th, 2012 at 11:04 AM
I’d take them seriously if one of them had won the fucking thing. As a silver medalist you’re still a big non-story, thanks though.
August 8th, 2012 at 11:06 AM
So patently false.
August 8th, 2012 at 11:09 AM
I wonder if this is more of an American mindset about how only gold matters, the whole point of the other medals is that being 3rd best in the entire world at something is still pretty badass…but you’ll always have people to rain on anyone’s parade
August 8th, 2012 at 11:11 AM
Add:
Michael Phelps (greatest Olympian of all time)
Gabby Douglas
Entire women’s soccer team
Missy Franklin
Seriously, TBL, come on. Lolo Jones doesn’t come close to these people in terms of popularity.
August 8th, 2012 at 11:12 AM
Another inflammatory piece by Insinuation Journalist Jason McIntyre. Color me shocked.
August 8th, 2012 at 11:12 AM
To be fair, his name isn’t “PetWithEvenHandedGentleness”.
August 8th, 2012 at 11:13 AM
This isn’t jealousy. Jealousy is a low 200m figure deal for a similar website.
August 8th, 2012 at 11:13 AM
its not even an American mindset. Its the mindset of someone trying to throw out a dismissive comment without knowing what they’re talking about.
August 8th, 2012 at 11:14 AM
…. uh isn’t this wrong? I know there have been many golfers who bitch about the attention Tiger gets. One of the golf nerds can expand on this though.
August 8th, 2012 at 11:14 AM
Especially considering Carl Lewis was on more drugs than a Keith Moon bender.
August 8th, 2012 at 11:14 AM

August 8th, 2012 at 11:15 AM

i still dont get it. why are all women vball players so flat? they great rears, like misty may, but have zilch in the funbags department. Why?
August 8th, 2012 at 11:15 AM

Oh, you got a bronze? LOL lick my sac, bruh, you suck.
/Internet’ed
August 8th, 2012 at 11:16 AM
The great thing about “arguably” is that you can put it in front of any BS statement and it will be okay because, technically, anything is arguable. For instance:
Arguably, the Knicks are suddenly loaded.
Jeremy Lin is arguably in the NBA MVP discussion.
Mark Sanchez is arguably a top 8 QB in this league.
You could argue that the Pirates should be contracted.
It’s arguable that the 2011 Washington Wizards will make the NBA playoffs.
And so on and so forth.
August 8th, 2012 at 11:16 AM
You ain’t first, you’re last.
August 8th, 2012 at 11:17 AM
Read too many “Lebron didn’t win shit in Cleveland” comments. People are fucking lunatics.
August 8th, 2012 at 11:18 AM
Seriously, TBL, come on. Lolo Jones doesn’t come close to these people in terms of popularity.
Was Ryan Lochte added already? If not, let’s put him on there.
August 8th, 2012 at 11:18 AM
Uh, Dawn Harper won gold in 2008. But keep trying.
August 8th, 2012 at 11:18 AM
!!
August 8th, 2012 at 11:18 AM
Aly Raisman deserves a head nod for her performance last night. Plus, she is the one who calmed Gabby down during the Team Finals.
August 8th, 2012 at 11:19 AM
Thought about that, but I’m not sure how many people actually like Lochte. I get the feeling most of us think he’s a doucher.
August 8th, 2012 at 11:19 AM
jthussler, if TBL suddenly wants to show you and garmy all those wonderful coats he pinched somewhere and wants you to have one, but you gotta walk to the end of an alley and go inside some dimly-lit room to get them, DON’T GO IN THERE. Send garmy instead.
August 8th, 2012 at 11:20 AM
True story.
Shit, heading into these games Jordan Weiber was everywhere.
August 8th, 2012 at 11:20 AM

I don’t equate popular with being well-liked. I equate it with being well-known. Under the former, I think you’re right. Under the latter, I think Lochte could be on the list.

August 8th, 2012 at 11:23 AM
Good for Dawn Harper pushing herself out there. Fuck the media for not giving those gals more attention. I don’t look at it as them throwing Lolo Jones under the bus.
And if ANYbody can come out of East St. Louis and be a success, let alone a medal-winning Olympian, they deserve all the fucking praise in the world.

August 13th, 2012 at 6:24 PM
I don’t know what all the fuss is about? The two girls Dawn and Kelly was right on. They won, Lolo Jones didn’t. The media’s favorite didn’t even medal. Jealousy, maybe not, but they are pointing out that the loser of a race is getting more fanfare than the winners are. The media wanted Usain Bolt to lose because he brags about his legendary status (self-proclaimed of course). They would love for him to lose and not give him endorsements, but he earned between $15M-$20M from the Europeans and Asians who love him. Same old crap, just different players.
