College Football Top 25: Oklahoma State Cowboys #17
Oklahoma State Cowboys (2011: 12-1, beat Stanford in the Fiesta Bowl, 41-38 in OT)
Four-Year Trend: 2008 (9-4), 2009 (9-4), 2010 (11-2), 2011 (12-1)
Notable Player: RB Joseph Randle. Brandon Weeden and Justin Blackmon are gone, so the team will be relying on Wes Lunt (he’s a true freshman, he’s 18) to run the offense. Junior running back Randle should be an even bigger part of the offense, and is versatile as a pass receiver, runner, and in blitz pickup.
Top Newcomers: Dominic Ramacher (TE), Seth Jacobs (LB), Michael Wilson (OT)
Circle This Game: Oklahoma State at Oklahoma (Nov. 24). The Cowboys laid an absolute whipping on the rival Sooners last year, and could have a lot riding on the return Bedlam game in Norman.
Why We Like Them: Oklahoma State has won 23 games over the last two years, has produced NFL talent, and has taken a major step forward with national coach of the year Mike Gundy. They will fall back a little from last year, when they were an overtime loss at Iowa State from playing for a national championship, but will still be a Big XII contender.
Best-Case Scenario: Freshman Wes Lunt is a phenom at quarterback and moves into the system seamlessly. The offensive system is in place to succeed, and the defense improves while not relying as much on turnovers. The Cowboys go into the rivalry game with Oklahoma with a chance to repeat as conference champs and finish with double digit wins for the third year in a row.
Worst-Case Scenario: The loss of Brandon Weeden and Justin Blackmon causes a big dropoff offensively, and the opportunistic defense that relied on turnovers regresses and cannot force stops. The expected defensive improvement does not show itself in results on the field. The tough Big XII schedule leaves them with 5 losses.
Projected Bowl: Insight Bowl

MSU being 20 and ND 19 is still a fucking joke. Can’t wait for Michigan in the top 5.

agreed that none of those teams are better than ohio state is this year.

Sparty is going to have the best (or second best) defense in the B10. I don’t think 20th is unreasonable at all.
August 7th, 2012 at 3:51 PM
That will be week 2.

Vrabel is awesome.

You have to remember this isn’t a top 25. There’s a piece at the top of the #25 post explaining what exactly it is. For some reason they refuse to put that in each post.

It is entirely appropriate to have no mention of defense in this post.

Gravatar bet?
Oh and I think MSU is easily a top 15 team.

“I’m a man! I guzzle 40s!”
The most interesting thing I’ve learned at TBL today is that ddmcd’s posts are apparently all moderated before they appear.

That person in the upper right of my screen, next to where it says Big Lead Sports, that’s not Jemele Hill. If it is, I want to hire that photographer to document everything that ever happens for the rest of my life.

A&M and Mizzou are in for a hell of a shock when they face actual defenses for the first time this season.
August 7th, 2012 at 3:59 PM
Pffft Fat Boy Staffords school should easily coast to the SEC Title game.
August 7th, 2012 at 3:59 PM
Well done..though it would probably reference Michigan a few more times.

not surprised he’d go after a job where he could yell at kids and tell em what to do.
/he’s one of the biggest assholes in a state chock full of em

That’s how Jemele Hill thinks she looks. It’s like when Snooki looks in the mirror and somehow sees J-Woww.

I have trouble thinking that a team with a true freshman quarterback will just seamlessly move on from having 2 1st round draft picks as the main part of their offense. I think they lost 3 of 5 OL too, which is a true indicator of college football success (or failure).
And the one-liner about their defense is about all that they deserve. Turnovers margin has been proven to be a luck factor and usually is equaled out over the years.
This smells like a 4-5 loss season for the Pokes. If Mike Hunt… I mean Wes Lunt is as good as advertised, he will be a bitch in 2013.

yep.
can’t see Crouton ever using “whom”

Someone needs to use that Mike Gundy clip and work it into the Karma Chameleon song. Why? Why not? I would try it, but I have no fucking video editing capabilities.

Seems weird that a team would get a bye week, play a major conference rival and then get another bye week.
