That ’87 tea, with Don McPherson was great, and fun to watch. Dick MacPherson never should have left for the Pats, he was made for the college game.

Everybody loves LSU this season – the defense will be nasty – but the Trojans, despite a rough schedule, should have the best offense in the country

Overall last season, USC and LSU averaged pretty much the same scoring per game — 35.8 vs. 35.7.
Subtract defensive and special teams scores, and the averages are 33.4 (USC) and 31.9 (LSU).
The major difference? USC had little running, LSU had little passing, and LSU faced much tougher defenses in the SEC.
LSU has all its RBs and pretty much its OL back intact, and had added a QB. But it’s seen as all defense.
My point? LSU could be an offensice juggernaut this season as well, and its defense is a lot better than USC’s.

Syracuse football? Sure. I don’t have any particular hatred for Syracuse football. I always they get short-shrift in historical CFB discussions.

yeah, people forgot how many great teams they had in the Jim Brown and Ernie Davis days as well as the late 80s and early 90s with Coach Mac. I’ve come to appreciate them by watching old games over the past few years as I was unaware of them when I was little.

I don’t know about best ever and for most of college football history players only get credited for 10 & 11 game seasons so it’s unlikely that they could rack up counting stats like you listed. This USC team seems crazily stacked at WR, above average at RB, with a great QB, though. It should be fun to cheer for everybody they play this year. Except Notre Dame. I won’t cheer for Notre Dame.
