In Pittsburg, moleman calls that a “nice job, nice effort.”

August 3rd, 2012 at 8:58 AM
first instance of praising the commentariat?
August 3rd, 2012 at 8:58 AM
Everyone should make sure to check out the TBLAD thread last night. Start at comment 109, ctrl+F “Rollo” and just read the story. It’s fantastic
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:00 AM
So I guess I should start coming back at night for the TBLAD since Rollo’s adventures with his S-I-L are bringing them in.
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:03 AM
I can see why the lockout was needed, a daily struggle to break even in that business

“Boosters would be allowed to contribute directly to the compensation of coaches, potentially controlling more of the terms under which coaches are paid, if a new NCAA proposal is adopted.”
thankfully, the Penn State scandal has put to rest any university having an athletic pregram that glorified sports over academics.

I feel like i have seen him say “congratulations, you just got yourself a two week vacation” before. Does that count?
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:04 AM
Holy Crap. Rollo Chronicles kept on going after I hit the rack last night.
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:05 AM
Kelly Slater, surfing at 40 …
that should read, “still winning at 40″
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:05 AM
Dear Penthouse…
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:07 AM
Rollo could have been an American hero last night.
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:09 AM
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:09 AM
I watched the match they discussed in the article, along with a couple others. Boxing better end soon because I think Teddy Atlas is going to have an aneurysm regarding the judging (rightfully so).
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:09 AM
Shhh…I’m at post #323, but he definitely should’ve grabbed them titties

And here’s a deplorable douchbag at a Chick-fil-A drive thru.
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:12 AM
The bout where an Irishman won the third round 3-2 and they clearly showed the other guy land 6 good punches was a delight…heard they’d doing away with the scoring system for the next Games but don’t know the details of it
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:12 AM
She should have taken his free water and dumped it in his fucking lap. Regardless of your opinions on the matter, that poor girl has absolutely zero to do with it.

I love that every time a chick dunks in a game, they have to stop the game and induct her into the hall of fame.

August 3rd, 2012 at 9:14 AM
I think that’s the one where he fought the Uzbeki guy. Yeah – the replays show him throw 4, 5 and 6 punch combinations to the ribs/head that all landed cleanly, and he somehow only got 3 points for the whole round.
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:14 AM
So…is tbl going to acknowledge ‘doin work’ by present commenters? I believe mist if us ‘do work’ daily. Cortes shared a byline on a really short story. Wow
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:15 AM
That video is obviously staged. We all know the anti-cfa people are class acts, and would never say such mean things to someone who is obviously just trying to earn a paycheck. Only the big, bad, mean pro-cfa people are capable of being such monsters!!

Goodell intends to do something to clean up the NFL’s DUI problem.
you mean like tatooing numbers on player’s arms, forcing them into a crowded train car for transportation outside of gameday? Or declaring marshal law, enforcing curfew and mandating military escort away from the football field?
/fuck Goodell

August 3rd, 2012 at 9:20 AM
Goodell also addressed what has been criticism from players including union leader Drew Brees. I asked Goodell jokingly if he wanted to punch Brees in the face. Goodell didn’t smile or miss a beat.
Is this guy a fucking professional writer?!? That’s just way beyond dumb.
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:21 AM
I wish more people would take this into consideration, I worked at a movie theater in high school and always loved people complaining to me about the prices as if me and my $5.75 hourly wage were involved in the financial structuring of the business…one busy night I pointed to the long lines and explained supply and demand to the guy who then still forked over the $30 for whatever shit they were going to consume, ‘Murica
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:23 AM
Prices at movie theaters are ridiculous though. They gouge us worse than ballparks.
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:24 AM
Don’t buy it then. Problem solved.

You know, the NFL already provides free 24×7 car service for all players, and yet yet some of these dumb motherfuckers don’t use it. He now has to do something more for these idiotic assholes; it’s like these guys are babies. Stupid babies need the most attention

Tailgating at the ballpark and watching movies without eating has served my wallet well (although Miller Park could charge $50 for their Cactus League Nachos and I’d still get a helmet full now and then)

August 3rd, 2012 at 9:28 AM
I dont think it would be physically possible for me to go to a theater and not eat popcorn. I would cry. Of course the theaters know this.
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:28 AM

I was waiting for him to offer her a job after he asked her how she lived with herself and worked there, I mean, he seemed to have all the other answers.
what a jackass
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:30 AM
and watching movies without eating has served my wallet well
Now they have these dine in theaters that drain your wallet even more. Food and booze comes right to your seat.
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:30 AM
The theater sees a pregnant woman approaching the snack bar is akin to krispy kreme seeing the patrol car pull up. CHA. CHING.
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:30 AM
He grumbled, paid, and that was that…for one night I was a hero to the others toiling away there in our $5 tuxedo uniforms

Reads more like most of you are losers getting off on bullshti story. How bout you take your woman and ride her for a few hours at night instead of wastin away at the computer.
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:31 AM
Cinebistro, friends. I do not attend movies anywhere else …
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:32 AM
blame the film distributors, they charge theatres so much just to show their movies the only way they can make a profit is off concessions.
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:33 AM
Oreo donuts get in me.
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:33 AM
I tried this, it’s different but kinda nice. At least it’s real food and real restaurant prices, I’ll shell out 10 bucks for a sandwich and 3 bucks for a drink over paying 6 bucks each for a small popcorn and small soda.
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:33 AM
I buy a bottle of water beforehand (at Wawa or somewhere else) and will buy a small bag of popcorn. Problem solved.
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:34 AM

i get the hypocrisy hate. coming down hard on the saints and pushing concussion protection all while pushing the 18-game thing
but just focusing on the bounty issue in a vacuum, i see nothing wrong with what he did. and brees needs to stfu already. the shit he’s complaining about was in the CBA and he’s a major labor figure.
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:34 AM
Look at all the god damn problem solvers all over the place! I have seen the light!
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:35 AM
A pitcher of beer or bottle of wine during the movie is quite nice.
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:35 AM
I had never heard that. no fucking excuse for a player to get a DUI, not that there was one anyways.
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:35 AM
Pre-baby, my wife and I have snuck in subs to a theater. The chips got us some nasty looks.
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:35 AM
Just got a Keurig, but I like strong coffee. Any suggestions on good K-Cups for that?
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:36 AM
I dont think it would be physically possible for me to go to a theater and not eat popcorn. I would cry
and a cherry coke yo. it’s the only time i drink popsoda
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:36 AM
No, I did hear there was a charge for using it. But of course this is minimal compared to player salaries.

August 3rd, 2012 at 9:37 AM

second’d. Brees is definitely a hypocritical SOB with an elevated opinion of his intelligence and non-football related skills.
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:38 AM
I’d be way too paranoid that some overzealous usher would kick us out mid movie
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:38 AM
somalia is a fucked up place, yo.
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:39 AM
I got the wife interested in this story last night when we were watching the Olympics. We both agreed that he kinda likes this attention that the SIL is giving him or he would have A) Gone to bed much earlier B) Told the wife C)Been more up front with SIL about how this is making him uncomfortable. Now part of me doesn’t blame him. I mean he is a new daddy and new dads don’t exactly get laid a lot, but this is just too close to going the wrong way even if he doesn’t say something to the wife.
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:40 AM
They’re high school/college kids too worried that their friends will see them in the uniform…they care not what you’re sneaking in
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:40 AM
Do they drive your car home too though? Cause getting it the next day is a real pain in the ass. Then its towed, got tickets, or costs you 50 bucks to get out of the garage.

Green Mountain Double Black Diamond Extra Bold, or French Roast. Newman’s also makes a strong one. Forget the name.

I buy a bottle of water beforehand (at Wawa or somewhere else) and will buy a small bag of popcorn. Problem solved.
I tried that once. I also had 2 bags of Orville Redenbocker with me and asked if I could use their microwave. They respectfully declined.

August 3rd, 2012 at 9:44 AM
Dammit, the one night I have shit to do, and I miss one of the most epic TBLAD events of all time.
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:44 AM
He is very much aware of what he is doing. He is not without some level of fault in this situation, thats for sure. It’ll be interesting to see how this all plays out, but you know damn well he will hear “why the fuck didn’t you come to me sooner with this shit” at some point during the convo with his wife. He is in a marginally indefensible position on that point.

Goodell intends to do something to clean up the NFL’s DUI problem
And when the next fucktard gets a DUI and Goodell puts the hammer on him, people will bitch about it. I would seriously lose my job in a heart beat if I got one so I don’t feel sorry for these guys losing money and missing out on a game or two.
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:44 AM
My father does this. Kind of defeats the purpose of having a Keurig.
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:45 AM
Really embarrassed that happened here. Sorry everyone.
Dumbass lost his job over that video.
Really hope nothing crazy happens at one of these CFAs one of these days.

spencer – “my little red book” is an interesting read. i like the simplicity of it. there’s a couple things in there that im definitely guilty of – like carrying my putter with the right hand.
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:46 AM
only defense for that is thought it was a misunderstanding, didn’t want to sound the horn for an accident, but it escalated to the point where it is now quickly. but that goes out the window if it goes on.
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:47 AM
Also, i think thats some dude dressed up as a panda photobombing that picture. Looks like he even has a chute of bamboo.
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:48 AM
How? It gives you one cup of coffee when you need it, and you’re not paying an equivalent of $58/lb of coffee for it.

August 3rd, 2012 at 9:49 AM
Every month or so, I need my movie popcorn fix. I’ll walk in, buy my popcorn and walk out. I don’t even watch a movie.
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:49 AM
If I wanted to do that I would just keep my old, messy Mr. Coffee guy.
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:50 AM
Rollo outkicked his coverage, I’m confident of that.
Threeway man, haven’t you ever heard of Whitney and Britney Stevens?
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:50 AM

August 3rd, 2012 at 9:51 AM
Thanks for the suggestions. Agree that price is crazy for refills, maybe Costco or Wally will be better?
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:51 AM
The measuring out negates the convenince of a Kuerig, but I can definitely see the savings aspect. Keep in mind, that I very rarely pay for coffee, so my perception is a bit skewed.
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:51 AM
Good to know that douchebag harassing the young lady at Chic-fil-a got fired from his job as CFO at the company he used to work at. That young lady handled his douchebaggery with class.
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:52 AM
to the people participating in the coffee banter: check out this site. Great place to get really good coffee and accessories. I don’t use this type of stuff every day, but I will boil water and steep the grinds on the weekends when I have enough time to really enjoy a cup.

If I was a head football coach, I think this would be a weekly occurrence for me. Having to answer the same inane questions from multiple nerdy ass beat writers who live for moments like this would have me playing the “i’ve got more important things to do” card all the time.

Sign up for a Coffee Club at http://www.greenmountaincoffee.com. It’s free, and you get a small discount off each package. Once you order enough to qualify for Platinum status, the shipping is free (min 4 boxes), and the discount is even greater.

Do you save the bag so you just pay for a $0.25 refill the next month?
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:54 AM
Looks like Sam’s Club has the Newman’s Own Extra Bold for $40(80 pack). I have no idea if that’s a good price or not
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:54 AM
thats why I can afford to play around with the coffee and accessories at that link i posted. We use a pretty nice burr grinder and drip machine at work with good coffee, so I don’t mind so much drinking their offerings during the weekdays. Plus, the boss pays for it all so that helps.
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:55 AM
I just read Goldstein’s Call-Up piece on him. He thinks it’ll only be until Ortiz comes off the DL. Seems weird to waste a minor league option for just a week or so. Looks like his defense is the portion of his game that has taken a step forward this season while the offense has kinda stalled out.
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:55 AM
Worked customer service for a credit card for 3 years while I was in college. Stuck to the script all the time when customers complained about their APR and other fees. One time I got so fed up with a customer that just wouldn’t stop that I let them know that if I was the one making decisions as to what the fee amount should be, I certainly wouldn’t be taking calls from whiny, insufferable customers. I actually used the phrase “whiny, insufferable customer”. She could’ve easily asked for my supervisor and had me fired. But I think she was just shocked. There was a 5 second pause and then she apologized TO ME for being rude. Thank god that call wasn’t monitored.
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:56 AM
oh yea…it’s not going to give you technical shit, but it’s such a refreshing read, you can’t help but laugh that you’d completely overlook some of the common sense themes he lays out. truly a fantastic book…and it supplements almost any type of golfing style too. don’t matter if youre a mechanic or a total feel player…there’s a wealth of great shit in there.
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:56 AM
Just read Rollo’s story from TBLAD. Wow. DysFUNctional family. Still have the funny visual of him circling the yard in the ATV. Needs to tell the wife.
We have a Keurig, and wife bought an “adaptor” you can use for your own DIY K cup. Just fill with your own coffee and proceed as usual.
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:57 AM
Eh, I just bring a thermos from home. And I’d have no problem measure it out, but that’s just me. Gives me another use for the balances around here.
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:57 AM

August 3rd, 2012 at 9:58 AM
Agree with you guys that Rollo needs to let his wife know. There’s no good reason for keeping this under lid at this point. Although, I’m not the one being offered free sex. So I shouldn’t judge.
August 3rd, 2012 at 9:59 AM
Isn’t something happening (patent running out or something) that will bring new entrants into the K-Cup market? Should collapse the prices, because they are way too expensive.
August 3rd, 2012 at 10:00 AM
They ask questions because fans care about reading the answers in columns…if fans stopped caring and media stopped covering teams then these people would be coaching football for free at city parks since what they do wouldn’t be important at all, funny how coaches and athletes routinely forget this, like they actually believe winning games matters beyond entertaining people
August 3rd, 2012 at 10:00 AM
vez…good lookin out. not especially a big deal, but i enjoy hearing what haney has to say. i don’t like his golf theory, but see the value in some of his philosophies, and really enjoy his candor and even keeled approach.

August 3rd, 2012 at 10:01 AM
If you wait for a 20% coupon from Kohl’s or BBBY, you can usually end up getting K-Cups for about $0.52-$0.55 per cup. That’s the best deal I’ve consistently found.

when i have to talk to an exec at a company for a story, i always make sure he knows i know he’s doing me a favor, that this is not part of his job. but being a head coach of a major sports team includes dealing with the media, who is after all just doing its job. not saying coaches have to be nice, in fact we all love a good snark, but to say he SHOULD be a jerk is not right

I can understand some of this. But you’re still on the coaches time and playing by his rules (in the case of Mullen). Also, fans, or more specifically me, want more than just filler. E.g. Chizik said the first 1/2 of practice was only so-so but they really turned it on in the second half, etc. Some of this has to do with coach-speak but some of it also has to do with media guys asking inane questions.

Every month or so, I need my movie popcorn fix. I’ll walk in, buy my popcorn and walk out. I don’t even watch a movie.
Do you save the bag so you just pay for a $0.25 refill the next month?
huh. i didn’t think you could get to concessions until you passed the ticket taker

I pay $13.49 for a box of 24, which works out to $0.56 per unit. Plus free shipping, and the convience of not having to go to a store.

August 3rd, 2012 at 10:10 AM
I don’t see that comment. What commenter are you referring to?

His memoir, “On Writing” is awesome. Great insight to what makes him move
the way he started and what his wife sacrificed to let him chase the dream…lots of respect for him. great role model for anything requiring persistence. i know there are many stories like it, but i know his better than many
August 3rd, 2012 at 10:11 AM
Yeah that is good. I was just on the site, and it looked like it was $0.68 per cup. If there’s a volume discount, then that makes sense.

I don’t care one iota if Rollo’s story is true or not. It’s a fun read, and a good way to pass the time during TBLAD.

i pour 12 cups of water in my black and decker coffee machine. then, what i do is, i get a white paper basket filter and put a lot of pretty good ground coffee in it. if i want it stronger, blacker, which is always, i put more coffee in the basket. then, i put the basket in the holder.
i shut the lid and turn that fucker on.
then i drink some strong black coffee, usually 8 cups

Not sure, but man was it funny. We really do need some sort of “best of” section for the website. I will spend hours reading some of the “best of” stuff at reddit. I think or commentariat is equally capable of producing gems like these and we should take great care to preserve them.

Not at the theater I go to. I always let the person at the box office know what I’m doing and I always say thanks as I’m walking out. I don’t want them to think I’m pulling a fast one. It’s an older, second-run theater.

ill…had a very informal golf lesson on weds. found i was too hunched over and probably need a 1/2″ extension on my clubs. also wasn’t leaving myself enough room through impact.
took awhile and a lot of bad shots to get comfortable, but once i did, i was flushing shots with an unreal trajectory. my last three shots all were within 10 feet of a 170 pin with an 8i. just dead flushed and the sound man…pure.
it’s going to take some getting used to since im comfortable with a trevino-esque squat and hold, but standing more upright and trying to keep that squat from getting too extreme allowed me to get much more speed and didnt hit any fat. cant wait to get out of the office and hit the range this afternoon.
/sorry…golf on the brain

August 3rd, 2012 at 10:27 AM
crazy is exhausting. you’d probably get in the same room as the SIL type and after she puts out all the signals, changes her mind at the last minute then it turns into an in depth conversation about her problems, and you’re in too deep to back out, b/c you never know when crazy will turn into sex, b/c that the type of person she is.
one of the best lessons learned in college.

Spencer – getting fitted for my clubs was the best thing ever. I don’t squat that much, but at the fitting it was determined that I needed 2* flat and .5″ additional length. I knew I would need to flatten the clubs, but once I got that .5″ extra length, it was a whole new world. Not coming in nearly as steep and was able to really make solid, predictable contact.

August 3rd, 2012 at 10:34 AM
i was fitted, and opted for standard length since i didn’t want to fuck with the MOI too much (long story)…after seeing my shitty swings on video (why couldnt she have gotten any of my good swings?) it’s kinda obvious the shorter clubs are effecting my setup and shit. probably where that squat move comes from…still hit it well tho, so i can deal with a simple tweak.
oh yea…and my wedges too. was taking too narrow of a stance, and once i figured out how to keep my planes consistent with a wider stance, my distance control and spin were markedly improved.
love it.
