Michael Phelps Wins His 17th Olympic Gold Medal in the 100m Fly
Michael Phelps won gold in his final individual race, the 100m butterfly. It was his 17th career gold medal and his record 21st Olympic medal. This was his third-straight gold in the event. He has one more relay tomorrow before his retirement.
It was an incredible finish, as he was not even in the medals after the first turn.
Missy Franklin also won her third-gold medal of the London Games, setting a world record time in the 200m backstroke. She was born in 1995.

You son of a bitch
August 3rd, 2012 at 2:51 PM
There’s also a 15 year old (born in 1997) in the 800M final for women too right now, in case 1995 didn’t make you all feel old.
August 3rd, 2012 at 2:52 PM
She went out way too fast though. She’s either going to set a WR by 5 seconds, or just completely fizzle out.
August 3rd, 2012 at 2:52 PM
Go Ledecky!
August 3rd, 2012 at 2:53 PM
I have never seen female scangers run these far before without needing some scag. Slappers have heart in lieu of dentistry.
Canadian women: “Heading north to drink beers by a lake do you want to come?”
British Women: “Shine yer knob for a fiver guv’ner”
August 3rd, 2012 at 2:53 PM
He truly deserves the title “GOAT”
August 3rd, 2012 at 2:54 PM
One defense of Lewis… less of a margin for error in sprint starts, simply because of the time.
How many events did each enter? What are their winning percentages?
August 3rd, 2012 at 2:54 PM
In 1995 I was trying to figure out how to get a girl to let me touch her.
If anybody has any tips, let me know.

Craig James thinks Michael Phelps is overrated

August 3rd, 2012 at 2:54 PM
Is it the Lithuanian girl that won a gold earlier in the week?
August 3rd, 2012 at 2:55 PM
Don’t know how Ledecky is going to hold on here.
August 3rd, 2012 at 2:56 PM
An American, Ledecky. She’s dropped back expectedly, but still well out in front.
August 3rd, 2012 at 2:56 PM
Anyone watching track and field?
August 3rd, 2012 at 2:56 PM
I thought you guys had Phelps “dead in the water” just a few days ago. Just a slow start i guess, dude still has it.
/see what i did there?

Still on WR pace!!
August 3rd, 2012 at 2:58 PM
Is this the post where we talk shit about Lochte and how he can’t carry Phelps swimsuit, or do we do that after all the swimming events are over? Can’t have your coach make excuses for you about scheduling, bro. Talk to Phelps about how to schedule and go 8-for-8.
August 3rd, 2012 at 2:58 PM
I’m already looking forward to the “why won’t she go away” and “PED user” posts here when she’s 37 for the 2024 Olympics.
August 3rd, 2012 at 2:59 PM
Phelps, Lochte, The steroided Asian girl, whoever doesn’t matter. That swim by Ledecky was the best by far in these Olympics. Wow.
August 3rd, 2012 at 3:00 PM
Better than Carl Lewis? Better than Carl Lewis.
August 3rd, 2012 at 3:01 PM
One of the girls on the US gymnastics teams wasnt born when Kerri Strug landed her vault in ’96.

Enough talk about Carl Lewis. He was a cheat and can’t hold Phelps Speedos…no matter how much he wants to.
August 3rd, 2012 at 3:12 PM
Phelps has been in 24 Olympic events
17 golds
2 Silver
2 bronze
2 no medal
He’s been in 15 individual races
11 golds
1 Silver
1 Bronze
2 no places
Carl Lewis
10 olympic events
9 golds (asterisk for Ben Johnson)
1 silver
8 individual events
7 gold (asterisk for Ben johnson)
1 silver
Lewis didn’t get to race the 4x100m in 88 because the americans dropped the baton in a prelim. Also Lewis didn’t qualify for the 100 and 200 in 92. Phelps has never failed to qualify for an Olympic event.
I think it’s Lewis, but it’s very close.
So make out that what you will.

Seems like women peak in most sports in their late teens-early 20′s but that hasnt carried over to certain sports, like Track & Field.
August 3rd, 2012 at 3:13 PM
Ben Johnson > Carl Lewis
August 3rd, 2012 at 3:16 PM
Cheers! Nothing says go Canada like cheap german beer from a government controlled liquor monopoly.
Down to earth beer drinking 10′s who wear hoodies 2 – Fugly coarse buck-toothed scangers with guts spilling out of a nylon dresses

Quick poll. Whose comments are the most “out there”? Soused or Mole? Go
August 3rd, 2012 at 3:21 PM
22 medals in 24 events. And he smoked weed and gambled for at least a year after the ’08 games. Absolute legend.
August 3rd, 2012 at 3:21 PM
I said a girl, not that girl.
August 3rd, 2012 at 3:24 PM
This was clearly established a few days ago.
August 3rd, 2012 at 3:26 PM
I would say Mole just because his are mostly drug fueld
August 3rd, 2012 at 3:26 PM

Just catching up. TBL is tape delayed north of the 49th parallel.

I would rather 10,000 Canadian babies die than have one person from the Abrahamic religions vote for me.
/DDMC1974 is the answer
August 3rd, 2012 at 3:47 PM
Eh, he’s no Carl Lewis.
August 3rd, 2012 at 3:51 PM
Anyway, the greatest Olympian of all time remains Zeus, and if you doubt that, he will have buzzards eat your liver.
August 3rd, 2012 at 3:54 PM
As clear as Ben Johnson’s yellow eyes
August 3rd, 2012 at 4:04 PM
I am the Answer. My comments are not out there. You just can’t handle the realness. Fukc that man. I speak for many. I speak for those who choose not to because of how people are now relegated to the backseat when they speak what others choose to disdain and those who think they are most rightchaous creating the viscious cycle that burns those who work hard with a struggle unbeknowest to those who most need to.
August 3rd, 2012 at 4:10 PM
21 medals. unreal.
August 3rd, 2012 at 4:51 PM
Someone calculated he has more golds than a country like Argentina. Ridiculous
August 3rd, 2012 at 8:41 PM
My daughter was born in 1995…what a fucking loser she is, amirite?
August 3rd, 2012 at 8:52 PM
Someone calculated he has more golds than a country like Argentina.
That couldn’t have been that hard to calculate. Look at how many golds he has. Compare to list of countries’ total golds in order from to least to most. Figure out which ones he has more than.
/Calculated’d
