Politician Opposes Banning Animal Fighting Because We Don’t Ban Human Fighting
Steve King, Republican U.S. Representative from Iowa, is the leading opponent of humans fighting in MMA and professional boxing. Or wait, maybe he is just opposed to laws related to animal protection. I’m confused. Here’s what he had to say in a recent interview.
When it’s “a federal crime to watch animals fight or to induce someone else to watch an animal fight, but it’s not a federal crime to induce somebody to watch people fighting, there’s something wrong with the priorities of people that think like that.”
In a vacuum, of course, most people would agree that human rights should be promoted over animal rights, and we should not treat animals better than humans, though most would believe in humane treatment. There are a variety of views along the spectrum and at the extremes of both ends of that. Of course, King’s comparison is ridiculous for any number of reasons related to free will and choice, as well as the nature of each type of “fighting” and the aftermath and results for the losers. I look forward to Steve King’s corresponding consistent views on the Penn State Scandal and child protection laws in general, on the basis that adult humans are allowed to have sex. Making a similar statement about our priorities would make just as much sense there–which is to say it makes no sense.

Let’s say you are a chicken, your life is stuck ankle deep wing to wing in chicken feces in the dark until you are killed and eaten.
Not a great life.
Let’s say you have a chance for glory, a chance to soar and battle nobly in the ring. Live life in the sun with all the feed and hens you can bang. Surely you wouldn’t force Chicken Spartacus back into the shit and darkness and deny him a warriors death?
There is a shortage of chickens in Valhalla and those eternal vikings are super pissed.

Steve King was a stupid fucking idiot before this video and he’ll be a stupid fucking idiot long after everyone has forgotten about this video. I’m embarrassed he’s from my state.

Sounds like a guy to root for.

I think King is a Birther as well. Surprised he comes from Iowa, which is generally considered fairly progressive.

Generally speaking yes, but there’s a huge evangelical/loony bloc here too. The western 1/3 of the state, King’s district, is very conservative. His district boundaries have changed and he’s running against a credible challenger for once, but I’m not sure it will be enough.

What is that one state in New England that has consistently voted for a Republican president for last 50 years or so. New Hampshire?

Dog fighting for reasons that remain unclear is against the law. The word “illegal” keeps getting thrown around. Seems vague.

How can we make fun of a guy who seems to have a clear grasp of bird law?

I think King is a Birther as well.
He is. He has one of the most conservative voting records in the House. He also likes to step on puppies.

This is the part I’m more concerned about. I’m not one to claim that you need a college degree to be a productive member of society. How the hell do you actually get elected to high office without one though? Seems like the easiest thing in the world for an opponent to bring up to discredit you.

The redhead that is thriving through playing chess with an adult is my favorite. The singing siblings a close second.

When you have a district filled with a majority of voters who are willing to have someone this conservative represent them in Congress, they probably aren’t big fans of book learnin’ and science. So the lack of a college degree probably does not trouble them.

Remember which faction of what party we’re talking about here. Lack of a fancy-schmancy college dee-gree is, sadly, a positive for a lot of people. Don’t want to be perceived as one of those dreaded “elites.”

Umm I don’t even think that is true. NH has been very typically fiscally conservative but (generally) socially liberal. It’s been that way since before Democrat Jeanne Shaheen was elected governer (15? 20? years). I’m pretty sure they have voted for Democrats ever since the Republican party went batshit crazy. I think the older Bush was the last Republican to win NH.
