Not sure if it’s already been mentioned, but I think it’s safe to say the price of Security for these huge events has probably gone up manyfold since 9/11.

Lots of SEALs and Delta would be back in the States if it was held here. And yes, the cost has to be out of control.

Some cities have more infrastructure in place than others to hold the games. You need to think about not only sites for the games, but hotels, mass transportation and roads, logistical, etc.

I think more and more analysis shows that the economic benefits are not as great as cities initially believe they will be. But there’s no doubt that that sense, whether true or not, is a major driver of a city’s reason to bid for the games in the first place.

The US is in the position where they generally don’t need to build, thereby limiting expenses and maximizing profits. Doesn’t mean the USOC still won’t go in and waste millions of dollars on shiny new venues.

What would an American Opening Ceremony look like? They’ve gotten so big since the last time USA hosted. I don’t think next US city can get away with parading pickup trucks throughout the stadium like Atlanta. Who would perform? Lady Gaga? There has to be multiple F-22 Raptors flyovers, right?
