Mario Williams will get to open his Bills career in fine fashion in the Meadowlands on September 9th pairing up against the Jets and right tackle Wayne Hunter. Jeff Otah, who was traded to the Jets last week, has failed his physical and is being returned to sender in Charlotte. That leaves the revolving gate of Wayne Hunter as the first multiple choice test (with answer sheet attached) for Williams, who is expected to move to the left defensive end position in Buffalo.

After Mario opens up against Hunter, Here’s who the Jets draw to start the season.

  • Pittsburgh in week 2: Lamarr Woodley and James Harrison will probably have armed fights over who gets to line up over Hunter;
  • Miami in week 3: Cameron Wake will start at right defensive end, and draw the attention, but Jared Odrick will then get the opportunities against Hunter, unless the Dolphins move Wake around;
  • San Francisco week 4: The 49ers front 7 is a handful, so while the Jets figure out how to contain Justin Smith and Aldon Smith, Ahmad Brooks will line up across from Hunter;
  • Houston week 5: the stretch ends with Mario Williams’ old team, who had one of the better pressure units last year. J.J. Watt and Connor Barwin will team up on the left side to wreak destruction.

According to Rich Cimini, Wayne Hunter is not going anywhere, though he thinks the team will pursue a right tackle. Options will be limited, and they will be scouting tackles from other teams who may not earn starting spots. If Hunter is back, though, that opening stretch could be brutal.
