Jonathan Broxton Traded to the Cincinnati Reds
Jonathan Broxton has been traded by the Royals to the Cincinnati Reds, per Ken Rosenthal. Royals GM Herk Robinson Allard Baird Dayton Moore may not be good at very many things, but he is a savant at signing an unwanted reliever looking for a rebound, then trading him at the deadline. Broxton will move into a set up role, but will easily hold the title of fattest pitcher in Cincinnati. I hope the Reds’ uniform designer was consulted on the move.

His freedom?

No, good for him on that one. But now he is stuck watching Broxton on a regular basis.

Best bullpen in baseball. Sucks that the Reds are World Series contenders but they are. Go Pirates.

Injured Jed Lowrie is apparently available. Astros may not even be done yet.

I just saw Scott Posednik was traded. I would have lost money on a wager he was still in MLB.

Pissed the Tribe haven’t traded anyone yet.

The one that jarred me the most recently was seeing Eric Chavez playing 1B for the Yankees.

Royals GM Allard Baird
Um, Lisk.
July 31st, 2012 at 3:49 PM
I’m glad Baseball-Reference exists to keep a record of transactions so I can see that at least the two guys the Sox traded to get Mike MacDougal in ’06 turned out to be bums

Jonathan Broxton is fat.

Royals GM Allard Baird may not be good at very many things
This is still accurate.
Anyway, Holland closes now, right? For all the wins that are coming?

To be fair you might have been able to save your bet because he was traded and immediately sent to Reno.

I guess Holland, TST. Though all those guys (Holland, Crowe, Collins, and Herrera) are suddenly not as good as they were.
I suppose that’s what happens when you have the Royals starters.

Not wanting Olympics spoilers but very much wanting trade deadline news is really fucking up my Twitter experience.

Royals GM Allard Baird
Um, Lisk.
I think it’s funnier if we just assume that was intentional. Dayton Moore has slipped to the point I confuse him with Allard Baird.

Holland would be my guess, but I would never try to crawl inside Ned Yost’s brain.

Scott Posednik, getting thrown stealing way more than anybody should, since 2005.

Dumpster to Texas.

And now we find out what the Rangers gave up for Dempster.
If the Cubs actually got Olt for him… damn, good for them.

No way.

Dempster in Texas? Interested to see his home/away splits.

I swear Betancourt has started at second for each of Hochevar’s starts this year and it’s cost him constantly. He even annoys people who aren’t Royals fans.
July 31st, 2012 at 4:02 PM
That’s OK, I’m still convicned that Arthur Rhodes is still pitching somewhere.
July 31st, 2012 at 4:03 PM
Lotsa playing time in most of those games. Guys you’ve never heard of will be makin’ plays.

The Rangers are really smart, but after Grienke went to Anaheim there has been a whiff of desperation.
They are so deep, they could afford to give up more than they’d otherwise feel comfortable.
July 31st, 2012 at 4:04 PM
People blamed Albert Pujols for breaking Brad Lidge for those couple years but I think serving up a walk-off in the World Series to Podsednik of all people was the true terror

I think the desperation move would be Olt for Josh Johnson, which would of course also have been dumb. So I’m assuming that didn’t happen here.

Podsednik has had a nice little career
two nice seasons early in his career. Been stealing money ever since. Trash since 2005. That’s 7 years ago.
July 31st, 2012 at 4:09 PM
According to LMBTR, a USATBLS venture:
The Rangers are sending two Class A pitchers to the Cubs
July 31st, 2012 at 4:09 PM
League Major Baseball it is, then
July 31st, 2012 at 4:12 PM
Cool. The only one I know that low is Buckel. Cubs getting any serious talent for that particular rental is nice work.

And suddenly the Knicks are loaded
July 31st, 2012 at 4:15 PM
Maybe they didn’t want Zagurski to feel so bad for going to the sandwich cart for seconds.
July 31st, 2012 at 4:15 PM
Another young star stolen when his small market team couldn’t afford him. It’s a shame. Salary cap, contraction, and soccer style relegation now.
July 31st, 2012 at 4:17 PM
This trade cripples the Pirates much like when they got rid of Rising Young Star Nate McLouth to open up a roster spot for this black kid with dreadlocks that obviously isn’t as good as McLouth.
July 31st, 2012 at 4:19 PM
Haha, yankees think they are getting something usefull in mcgehee. He sucked for milwaukee and pittsburgh last year and this year. Desperation!
July 31st, 2012 at 4:19 PM
I assure you the Yankees know exactly what they are getting.
July 31st, 2012 at 4:24 PM
Just wait until our young, dreadlocked black dudes start playing soccer!

I read over it the first time thinking nothing.
July 31st, 2012 at 4:28 PM
And nice touch with Herk.
July 31st, 2012 at 4:38 PM
Yeah, was wasting away on the 40 man, and the Red Sox packaged him and Albers for Breslow, meaning Morales is coming back to the rotation.
Cook will likely be traded/DFA’d to make room, unless they somehow waiver trade Beckett (I doubt this). It’s a nice trade for the Sox, who get much-needed 40-man space (and created more by mercy-killing Lars Anderson to Cleveland, who may still yet be a decent pro)
July 31st, 2012 at 4:42 PM
agree with what WWoS just said. Now it’s on Beckett and Lester to step up

silly podsednik forcing teams to continually sign him. the dude played a major part in a WS title, had the two seasons you mentioned, and keeps getting paid.
definition of nice little career
