O.J. Murdock, Titans’ WR, Committed Suicide in a High School Parking Lot
O.J. Murdock, who was an undrafted wide receiver with the Tennessee Titans, died this morning of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was found inside his car around 8:30 this morning in front of his former high school. Murdock was excused from training camp this weekend for personal reasons.
Murdock signed with the Titans as an undrafted free agent last season and spent the year on the injured reserve list. He was a standout at Middleton High School in Tampa, and then attended the University of South Carolina, where he played briefly. Murdock was suspended from the Gamecocks indefinitely after being arrested for shoplifting. [Tampa Bay Online, Tennessean]
Sports Illustrated’s Mike Rosenberg points out that Murdock was a teammate of Kenny McKinley at South Carolina. McKinley died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in 2009.

Didn’t think it was weird at all…it was the first thing I thought of when I heard the news this morning. Huge disappointment for the Gamecocks both on and off the field, but certainly very, very sad that it came to this in his life.
RIP OJ…

I hope that doctors will be able to test Murdock’s brain for CTE. This problem is not going away…
