Penn State Recruited SMU Players on Campus After 1987 Death Penalty
SMU’s football death penalty created a feeding frenzy for SMU players in 1987. The NCAA waived the one-year transfer requirement. More than 80 schools and 130 coaches descended upon the campus to recruit players away. Among them was Penn State University.
Among the larger schools that were reportedly represented on campus were Penn State, Arkansas, Texas A&M, Texas, Oklahoma, Houston, U.C.L.A., Arizona, Tulsa, Alabama and Kansas.
The situation is slightly different. Penn State will actually field a team next year, but the idea there is some broader ethical principle against recruiting Penn State within NCAA is ludicrous. About as ludicrous as suggesting the NCAA is going to step in and reduce the Penn State sanctions for good behavior. Look, we haven’t harbored any pederasts in six months, you guys!

Yep, I too remember the scene in “Pony Excess”. It was tacky then. It was just as tacky last week.
Yep, D-1 football is a dog-eat-dog, big bucks industry. I’ll just have to block these parts out when the games begin.

Yes, the situation is patently different, so why bring it up, other than to say that Penn State is hypocritical in complaining about how an entirely different situation has placed them in a bad spot?
I mean the point of this was post *was* to pile on, right?
