London 2012: France Edges U.S. in Mens’ 4x100m Freestyle Relay
France got revenge. After being the victim of a stunning U.S. comeback in the 4x100m freestyle relay in Beijing, the French returned the favor on the U.S., coming from behind to win the gold and relegating the U.S. to silver. Russia won bronze. Pre-race favorites Australia finished fourth.
The U.S. built a sizable lead in the first two legs with Nathan Adrian outdueling the reigning 100m freestyle champ James Magnussen in the first leg and Michael Phelps swimming the fastest American leg in the second. The French made a late charge, however, with 20-year-old Yannick Angel catching Ryan Lochte on the final leg.
Lochte won round one. Though teammates here, this was a marginal win for Phelps in round two. This silver medal, Phelps’ first, was his 17th Olympic medal, moving him one off the all-time record.

totally thought the French would be afraid of the water
France has some of the most amazing beaches on Earth. Highly doubt they’re afraid of the water.

Highly doubt they’re afraid of the water.
No, but they’re typically afraid of conflict.

Helped turn the tide against Britain, so they can puss out of any other conflict they wish. I for one am glad I’m not spending money with the queen of England on it.

I’d like to see the splits, cant find them anywhere. Though I did hear every American swimmer swam a sub 48 seconds, but that last French swimmer was sub 47 seconds. Lochte didnt ‘blow’ it, his leg just happened to be against the fastest swimmer of the heat.
