Dylan Bundy Throws a Curveball That Will Leave You Jelly-Legged Just Watching It
Dylan Bundy, the former Oklahoma high school star who was the 4th pick in the 2011 MLB draft, throws a knee-buckling curveball. This strikeout he had this week will dazzle you at the :50 mark. Sandy Koufax would be impressed.

Not bad from Matt Harvey last night. One bright spot for the Mets.

If Angelos & Duquette find a way to ruin this kid, it may be the straw that breaks the camel’s back for me as an O’s fan.

Read an SI.com feature on him earlier this week. Seems like a crazy worker.
Story.

Dude was throwing some fire last night. Everybody was tardy on his stuff but I blame having to face too much Jeff Francis the night before. Soft throwing lefties screw up the Diamondbacks for about three games.

Looked like a pretty standard curve ball to me, set up by the gas the previous pitches. Major League hitter stays in there and takes away the illusion that was anything more than a tabletop curve.

This.
Can we get some Tebow and the Jets posts today?

Son of Al, or son of Ted? ‘Cause he was slaughtering ‘em in that video.

Still, more women were left jelly-legged when Grady Sizemore showed off his curve.

4 PITCHES IN LESS THAN A MINUTE? He better learn to slow that down if he wants to pitch in the AL.

Great article with some awesome facts in there. I was particularly fascinated with this one:
In the 47-year history of the June draft, the Orioles have drafted 458 high school pitchers. None of them became a 15-game winner for Baltimore.

I believe his curve was graded currently as a 60, big leaguers would struggle against it if he sets up his fast and change. The O’s aren’t even letting Bundy use his best pitch this year (cutter).

This bothers me. I get wanting him to focus on curve/change development but scares me that he may lose feel for pitch and never get it back.

The fuck is a Jelly-Legged???
July 27th, 2012 at 10:34 AM
Rick Peterson is pretty good about pitcher development. Think they’re gonna let him unleash the cutter when he’s at AA next year.

Whatever Brian Matusz did, do the opposite Dylan.

It’s the feeling that Tim had when he heard Vidal Sassoon died.

In my mind the jury is still out on the “babying” of these young pitchers.
I liked this other nugget from that article: Among the 102 pitchers in the 1981–2000 sample of high school first-rounders, those who threw 150 innings in their first full year were much more likely to reach the majors (78%) than those who didn’t (51%), and more than twice as likely to reach 20 career wins (57%) than those who didn’t (27%).
There’s been too much of a knee-jerk reaction to limit young pitchers’ innings.

maybe a bad angle but that was closer to an ephus pitch than a great curve.

From what local guys have said in the last 24 hours, he could be in Bowie by the end of this year.
Whatever Brian Matusz did, do the opposite Dylan.
Sadly, you may be able to sub Zach Britton for Matusz by the end of this year. Huge start for him tonight.
July 27th, 2012 at 11:03 AM
Matusz throws scared Bundy does not. Bundy is Clemens like. And I agree he should be throwing his cutter. Not sure what the O’s are trying to prove by not letting him. I get they want him to workout a curve but cmon let the kid throw what got him to be the No 4 pick.

Baltimore does save money on airfare for coaches and scouts. Think Norfolk is the farthest team away from Baltimore. Fredrick, Aberdeen, Delmarva, Bowie, all in MD. Must be fun if you are an Oriole fan to go see all the prospects before they fail in B-More.

Causation/correlation and all that.

Best curveball by an Oriole since Gregg Olson! I hope the long toss helps Bundy not ruin his elbow like Gregg Olson
