Agent Tells Radio Show: “Everybody Has Something on Nick Saban”
Ralph Cindrich is a sports agent who played college football at Pittsburgh and spent a few seasons in the NFL. Apparently, Cindrich is pissed at the NCAA for lowering the boom on Penn State in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky scandal, so Cindrich went on the radio in Pittsburgh Thursday and called Mark Emmert a “bozo.” Cindrich then essentially said Nick Saban is cheating at Alabama:
“I have enough on Saban right now,” Cindrich said on a KDKA show hosted by Larry Richert and John Shumway.
Cindrich was pressed for details.
“Everybody has something on Nick Saban, for God’s sake,” Cindrich said. “And if he has a problem with anything I say, come on after me, big guy.” …
You want to trust Nick Saban? I have enough on Saban right now – and I realize this stuff gets out, and I also realize the truth is a defense. I know what goes on in college football, so cut me a break. …”
It’s too bad Cindrich wasn’t able to drop this news prior to SEC Media days! It would have been quite a sight to see Saban’s face tense up when asked about these allegations. Cindrich pressed on:
Cindrich was asked directly if Alabama players are being paid.
“Oh, come on,” he said.
“When you get these guys down and you get them under oath, they’ll tell you that. Sure.
“The statute of limitations has probably run as far as any criminality was involved to what I was relating to Saban, but I was involved in it. I know what he tried to do. I know what he tried to cover up. If he wants to stand up and say something, I’ll bring that up. If it’s out of time, I’ll go to the nearest agent I know, and I’ll bring up about a dozen things that are in time, because that’s the way he and most of the big-time schools, particularly in the SEC, operate.”
Ballsy stuff from Cindrich, but I’m sure after the interview his phone blew up and he’ll be silenced on the issue. That’s too bad … [Birmingham News]

And like the Teflon Don, NOTHING will stick. Saban is John Gotti and Keyzer Soze and Bear Bryant all rolled into one.
July 27th, 2012 at 1:08 PM
It’s the purity of college sports that elevates them above the professional level
July 27th, 2012 at 1:08 PM
C’mon man. Those Alabama players paid for those fulled loaded SUV’s and sport cars with personal nameplates. Not to mention the dozens of designer suits. Leave Nick Saban alone!
July 27th, 2012 at 1:08 PM
I hear he is callous toward his underlings and has been known to simply step over the fallen.
History’s greatest monster!

Like the way he started hedging his bets at the end, trying to protect against a slander suit. Obviously I’m not a ‘Bama fan, but if he has something he needs to say it – if not, he needs to shut the hell up.
July 27th, 2012 at 1:09 PM
No shit Sherlock. I’m a Phins fan and a Bama fan and I know Nick has got where he’s at by burning some bridges and doing some shady things. I don’t go blowing my horn when Bama wins NCs, I know things are done differently down there. I’ve seen the pics of Dre and Julio’s cars. I’ve seen the pics from within Tom Albetar’s store. They work within the “gray” areas.
NCAA is much to blame on this crap as Bama is.
July 27th, 2012 at 1:11 PM
Read the article. This Cindrich was all over map. Saban “knew” this, “wasn’t involved” in that, probably responsible for something else.
Cindrich shouldn’t have name-checked. He could have vented without naming names. The follow-up questions were and will be predictable.
July 27th, 2012 at 1:13 PM
“Those bennies ain’t no everlastin’ tattoos like ‘dem boys at Ohyo Staate got for $5 each tho. Those cars and suits only last ‘em like 3-4 years ‘fore they got all wore out and need a new one. What’s tha big deal?”

I want to know who the classy chick that is cut out of the Ralph Cindrich photo
Can’t be his wife. Got to be some hottie

I heard this story about Saban: While at Michigan State, he was spending Christmas at home in West By God, and someone tipped him off that Plaxico Burress’s grandma lived nearby. He left his family on Christmas Eve, went over and sat up all night drinking with Grandma, and she convinced Plax to sign with the Spartans.
July 27th, 2012 at 1:16 PM
I’m stunned, STUNNED I say to learn of any potential wrong doings!

July 27th, 2012 at 1:17 PM
Duh. Bama has as bad a track record as any program in history in terms of violating NCAA rules. Of course they’re cheating. You don’t get the #1 recruiting class year in and year out, out of the gates, at Alabama, by playing by the rules. Saban is to Bama as Calipari is to UK.
July 27th, 2012 at 1:17 PM
To be fair those two guys aren’t sports talk hosts – they do the general news show for KDKA. They ended up way over their head.
/Richert is Dan Marino’s brother in law

Probably Old English.

So the players are being paid? Good.
And there is a playoff? Cool.
/Not sure what to bitch about now

I particularly like how he drops a reference to saban being involded in a crime at the end.
Also, for fun athlete rumors, read all of this.
July 27th, 2012 at 1:19 PM
TBL – did you see this link earlier? Wonder what your thoughts are on it.
July 27th, 2012 at 1:19 PM
I totally disagree. It would be ballsy if he actually called him out on something and based it on facts. This is just slinging mud. If he had any guts he’d take it to the NCAA.
July 27th, 2012 at 1:19 PM
Somehow Boise State will still be wronged at some point this season
July 27th, 2012 at 1:20 PM
You mean with dozens of sports teams on probation? The illegal recruiting procedures that get them a class of 25 every year? Or the obvious illegal benefits the players get?
/Penn State still has the culture problem though
July 27th, 2012 at 1:20 PM
Not throwing stones at the reporters. They would ask the same things we would – “How do you know this? Can you prove it? Will others collaborate your story? Why bring it up now? What do you have to gain by saying this now?”
July 27th, 2012 at 1:20 PM
Apparently, Grandma was a garbage truck driver in Fairmont and was fond of the hooch, so I’m assuming it was straight-up Ancient Age.

Breaking news: college coaches cheat.
More at 11. Also coming up: politicians lie, public employees coast by and your employer doesn’t always have your best interest at heart.
July 27th, 2012 at 1:22 PM
Cindrich went on to say he “thinks water is wet, fire is hot, and LoLo Jones will be one of the five most popular athletes during the Olympics”.
July 27th, 2012 at 1:22 PM
What are we talking about? Players getting paid? I thought this was the first year players could get paid by the school…

Actually, it being W.Va., I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a redeye.
July 27th, 2012 at 1:25 PM
Yeah I saw that coming. Not that I’m naive enough to think Fulmer didn’t bend the rules in recruiting, but his issue was more with his actual roster getting in trouble, not recruiting violations.
July 27th, 2012 at 1:25 PM
He left his family on Christmas Eve, went over and sat up all night drinking with Grandma, and she convinced Plax to sign with the Spartans.

Nobody trusts Saban in the first place.
Someone having dirt on Saban isn’t shocking or, really, news, because the media never created a narrative of ethics for him like with Paterno and Tressel.
July 27th, 2012 at 1:39 PM
Because turns out you don’t need a bullshit “doing things the right way” narrative when you just consistently dominate.
July 27th, 2012 at 1:40 PM

You telling me that my Billy Bob quote is off? That sounds exactly like something straight off the transcript from the Pawwwwwwwwl show.
July 27th, 2012 at 1:51 PM
It would be nice if the local media in the SEC went after some of these programs the way the Detroit Free Press went after Rodriguez at Michigan. If you can make an exhaustive investigative report about a team stretching too much and having quality control people at “voluntary” workouts, just think of all the material they would have to work with at Bama, Auburn, LSU etc
July 27th, 2012 at 1:53 PM
Well, God Damn. My DVR is lying to me again. Because it says its there in blue and white that its recorded. And the final score still seems to be the same.
/Don’t really have the game on DVR
//The Billy Bob quote was meant for amusement on Bama fans thought(?) processes, not on the content of the information

SHUT IT DOWN.
July 27th, 2012 at 2:01 PM
You mean the way the Lexington Herald-Leader went after Kentucky?
July 27th, 2012 at 2:07 PM
I can assure that that won’t happen again. UK and the Herald-Leader are snug as bugs now.
Now, as to The State and South Carolina…that’s a seriously venomous relationship.
July 27th, 2012 at 2:08 PM
you think anyone at the Tuscaloosa newspaper wants to try that? fuck no, I mean Nada just linked something above from 1985, shit ain’t changed from then to now. maybe an SEC school like ole piss or Kentucky in football, where no one gives a shit, but Bama or Auburn or the like? not a chance.
July 27th, 2012 at 2:11 PM
You mean the way the Lexington Herald-Leader went after Kentucky?
“Then tell me, future boy, who’s President of the United States in 1985?”
you think anyone at the Tuscaloosa newspaper wants to try that? fuck no
That’s why I said “it’d be nice” I realize it’s never going to happen. But I can still wish that it would.
July 27th, 2012 at 2:11 PM
Same with the BR paper and LSU. You will never see the Advocate go after LSU athletics. They went after the booster foundation once over its control of the stadium and seating, but that’s not quite the same thing.
I guess I just made Worms82′s point for him. Dang.
July 27th, 2012 at 2:13 PM
And I suppose Jack Benny is secretary of the treasury, huh?
July 27th, 2012 at 2:14 PM

July 27th, 2012 at 2:23 PM
The cheating used to really bother me, especially the Caliparis of the world. But I’m cynical enough at this point to think they’re all doing it, including Vol coaches. So if you’re going to do it, at least do it competently. That means you, Dooley.
July 27th, 2012 at 2:29 PM
They went after the booster foundation once over its control of the stadium and seating, but that’s not quite the same thing.
maybe not, but it seems even ballsier than going after coaches and players. boosters know people who will cause accidents for money
July 27th, 2012 at 2:32 PM
I enjoyed the retro Tank McNamara dealing with Howard Cosell’s new book.
July 27th, 2012 at 2:36 PM
IIRC, the stories ran in the news section instead of sports because the sports editor at the time wanted nothing to do with it.
July 27th, 2012 at 2:39 PM
Or you know, mostly true.
And Dooley is shitty so far. You need me to tell you this?
July 27th, 2012 at 11:04 PM
Cindrich seems to be another disgusting person void of human compassion and decency. I’ve had enough of these Penn State cultists who are upset that Penn State was punished. He should spend time worrying about Sandusky’s victims and not a morally corrupt football program.
