Video: Jonas Valančiūnas Finishes an Alley-Oop Off the Backboard Over a Defenseless Icelander
Jonas Valančiūnas was the 5th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft by the Toronto Raptors. The 7-foot Lithuanian center will make his NBA debut next season. Before then, he’ll represent Lithuania in the Olympics. In an Olympic tune-up game against Iceland, point guard Mantas Kalnietis threw the ball off the backboard on the fastbreak, with Valančiūnas and a defender trailing. Valančiūnas destroyed the poor defender. He Blake Griffin’d him. Luckily, the unnamed defender can go home to Iceland where no one will ever see him again. [via BDL]

Blake Griffin gets more than 16 inches off the ground.

Is Blake Griffin 7 feet? This guy doesn’t need to get any higher than that to dunk.
July 25th, 2012 at 9:52 PM
Close enough but still
July 25th, 2012 at 10:02 PM
Blake Griffin is 6’9″ on a good day.
July 25th, 2012 at 10:02 PM
No I think he’s “only 6′ 10″.

Blake Griffin also has a 36 inch vertical, and dunks over people. This guy dunked off a sweet pass, but the defender wasn’t exactly challenging him. The comparison isn’t there.

My closing argument is:
This guy barely got off the ground against a defender who was not only facing the other way, but who’s momentum was taking him away from the trailing player. Saying that he “Blake Griffin’d” him is simply not accurate.
/sorry CRM
//please don’t hit me with the banhammer

oh, and Blake Griffin is a highly overrated and overhyped one dimensional bit player

A.P. – You watching the Sox? Beckett has actually been halfway decent and is still pitching into the 7th (!)
July 25th, 2012 at 10:10 PM
THIS.
/50% Free throws

Pastor, following it online. I don’t get NESN here.
July 25th, 2012 at 10:19 PM
And promptly Beckett throws a wild pitch to give up the lead.
July 25th, 2012 at 10:19 PM
and there goes Josh Beckett fucking it up with a wild pitch
July 25th, 2012 at 10:23 PM
Pastor, I am resigned to the fact that they won’t make the playoffs.**
**unless Jon Lester has a miraculous turnaround
July 25th, 2012 at 10:27 PM
Not that we ever will know, but whatever the hell is going on between Lester’s ears is some crazy shit.
I hope they don’t make the playoffs. In fact, I hope they go 1-5 on this road trip and are 8 games out of the second Wild Card spot by the end of the weekend. Then we don’t have to listen to the front office tell us how “We’re still in the Wild Card hunt!” They literally have the 4th worst record in the AL, yet all you hear is that they are “playoff contenders!” Be sellers at the deadline, get some pieces for the future, and close the book on this season. Please.
