Joe Paterno’s Last Win at Penn State? Mike McQueary Was the Quarterback in 1997
The NCAA sanctions levied against Penn State by Mark Emmert took away all the school’s victories from 1998-2011. We’ve already examined what that has done to Joe Paterno’s career wins total. Here’s an interesting twist to the punishment: Guess who was the QB on the 1997 Penn State team? Mike McQueary. He testified in the Sandusky Trial.
Paterno’s last official game: 1997 Citrus Bowl (Jan. 1, 1998): 21-6 loss to Steve Spurrier and Florida. Here’s a recap.
Paterno’s last official win: 35-10 over Wisconsin at Beaver Stadium on November 22nd.

I’d say there’s a decent chance his wife is pregnant again by the end of the week.

Actually his last official game would probably be the loss to Bama last year. The NCAA only vacates wins, not losses.
July 23rd, 2012 at 11:18 AM
I do have to commend Jason, though, for that fact that I haven’t seen an occurrence of “SHUT IT DOWN” yet.

You dirty hippie.

All Penn State, all the time. Your source for dipshittery and posts that no one really cares about.
TBL, you asked Kaiser earlier how you were being a troll, right? Well this my friend is exhibit A for the day. You could have easily added this to the end of the career wins total article, that was writing like an hour ago, and been done with it. Instead, you choose to choose to make a grab for a few more pageviews and try to keep our manufactured outrage and feigning concern on a low boil for a few more hours.

heel – we’re going to have a few more penn state posts as info comes out.
this is being called the biggest college football story, perhaps of all-time. yeah, on decision day, we’re going to flood the zone with 5-6 posts, just as the Post-Gazette will have 5-6 stories tomorrow, and the Inquirer will have 5-6 stories.
just a heads up, FYI

The NCAA once told a powerhouse program that they couldn’t have a football team for an entire year…the Culture of Now needs to go away
July 23rd, 2012 at 11:27 AM
Kaiser – I didnt put much thought into it the rest of the weekend. Too busy doing country club stuff: sailing and golfing and eating on my in-laws dime at the club. However, did you see my Dr. Dog – Be the Void recommendation? not sure that matches, but it would fit some of the stuff you said you liked the other day.

A man… can be an artist… in anything. In food, whatever… it depends on how good he is… at it. Mark Emmert’s art is probation… he’s about to paint his masterpiece.

Swoons…
July 23rd, 2012 at 11:30 AM
Jason since you are not responding to my comment in the last post, I’ll put it here:
I mean, certainly you can see the difference, Jason, between a school that has scholarship restrictions for a few years and a school who refuses to even recruit players of a certain caliber for nearly 20 years….please tell me you see the difference between the two. You went to college, I have faith that you are able to undertake compare and contrast exercises.
And I will reiterate: are you completely unaware of the existence of USC and what they’ve done with similar restrictions (though minus the huge fine)?
July 23rd, 2012 at 11:30 AM

Looks like I’ll be waiting on a response for awhile.
So back to calling spencer a hippie.
Exhibit A: you majored in music.
July 23rd, 2012 at 11:32 AM
i’ve been listening to “The Lumineers” all weekend, really liked that rec.
I don’t recall the Dr. Dog, but you listed Dr. John.
i suppose i can overlook the transgression… this time, haha.
thanks for the recommendations, all have been pretty good so far.

we’re going to have a few more penn state posts as info comes out.
so what new info came out between the last 3 Penn State posts and this one? you googled “Penn State wins 1997″?
July 23rd, 2012 at 11:32 AM
I hear ya, and to be honest can’t blame you nor would I try to argue against it. Gotta get dem’ bills, amaright? But that doesn’t mean it won’t go un-chided around these here parts, especially when you easily provide us with the very examples you ask us for.
Serious question though: will you be weighing in with an opinion on the NCAA sanctions? Would love to get your entire opinion on the matter, preferably in 500 words or more.
July 23rd, 2012 at 11:33 AM
Read: There will be a few more posts on PSU as other blogs do more work that I can then scavenge.

McQueary saw Sandusky.
McQueary told Paterno.
McQueary said he told Paterno.
Paterno lost all his wins.
McQueary has most recent PSU win.

Dr Dog wasnt on the first list, but Dr John was. Figured if you liked The Black Keys you may like Dr Johns newest album, as it was produced by Dan Auerbach.
of course this was written by a commenter named “AssaultWithAConcreteDildo”.

Not a fan of the two drummers?
July 23rd, 2012 at 11:37 AM
See… this seems fair. When there’s a story I don’t care about or get sick of, I just don’t come here, or don’t comment in those posts.
Now when we are force-fed QB-controversy posts about the last-place JEts all November, I’ll feel differently.
July 23rd, 2012 at 11:38 AM
huge fan of two drummers (see: allman brothers)…just had far too many road trips with dad and the dead. prolly why im so fond of talking heads, jazz and some of the other music he dug because i was so fucking sick of the grateful dead, anything was a nice reprieve.
that said…box of rain is fucking mint.

A man… can be an artist… in anything. In food, whatever… it depends on how good he is… at it. Mark Emmert’s art is probation… he’s about to paint his masterpiece.
I know where this is from, but I chose to read it in Ed Harris’ voice from “The Truman Show”. “If his was more than just a vague ambition, if he was absolutely determined to discover the truth, there’s no way we could prevent him.”

Seriously? That comment shows a total lack of ability to comprehend the differences between buying houses and cars for players versus raping children in the shower.
If I have a kid looking to play BCS football, I’m having him drop PSU like a hot rock.

That comment shows a total lack of ability to comprehend the differences between today and five years from now for a kid who just wants a chance to play D1 football and will play anywhere that will give him the best chance to get paid under the table and make the pros.
July 23rd, 2012 at 11:41 AM
do you want the honest answer or the answer that won’t hurt your feelings?

Crunching the numbers on Penn State and scholarships. They likely won’t be back to 85 scholarships until 2020. Think about that.
… which is why folks are saying a decade.

I preferred your less hard edged response in the previous post. But I take your point nonetheless. My opinion is that the details of this case will fade away quicker than we are presently able to imagine. We are so near the event, the NCAA penalty anyway, that any sense of how long lasting this will be is complete guess work. My feeling, and I know it’s my opinion and that I could very well be proven wrong in the coming years, is that Penn State will weather this and end up being fine. If that means that I go against the majority of opinions today, then so be it.
July 23rd, 2012 at 11:42 AM
You know you are agreeing with me, right? I realize you are a Preds fan, so it’s dicey at best.

You can call me stupid. It’s ok. I never claim to be an music expert.

they are still going to have people that want to go there b/c it’s PSU, regardless.

July 23rd, 2012 at 11:46 AM
Spencer – if you dig ABB, you should really give Govt Mule, Warren Haynes Band, and Derek Trucks Band a listen.
/basing my comment off your music listening era comment
//knows you probably have listened to the above bands
July 23rd, 2012 at 11:47 AM
Am I dumb because I’m from TN or because I’m a Preds fan? Could you clarify please?
I’m not agreeing with anyone. But you’re an idiot if you don’t realize that all outrage has a half-life, and every year that passes, recruiting will become easier, and fewer people will have a problem playing for PSU.
If PSU was the best available school for your kid in 5 years, that’s where he’d go.
July 23rd, 2012 at 11:47 AM
govt mule is ok, but i HATE warren haynes.
derek trucks is one of my favorites tho…i must have a dozen of his live concerts on my comp at home.

July 23rd, 2012 at 11:53 AM

July 23rd, 2012 at 11:55 AM
i hold grudges and when i saw allman bros, i didnt really enjoy sitting thru 100 degree heat to watch some obese corpulent fuck take 75% of the solos which were just a bunch of “blues for dummies” licks while derek trucks played rhythm guitar.
that’s like having lebron on the bench in lieu of shane battier. hated him ever since.
i mean, seriously…his solos are the musical depth equivalent of the kiddie pool.
July 23rd, 2012 at 11:58 AM
Come now, they aren’t THAT bad. However, he knows he is not the prodigy that Derek is, and he needs to do a better job of getting the hell outta the way sometimes. Saw them 2(?) years ago and he did the same thing, but was probably split 50/50.
July 23rd, 2012 at 11:59 AM
you should really give Govt Mule
i do like these guys quite a bit.

True story … I have a strong dislike for Mark Richt and his holier than though schtick and of course, my kid follows along with that. So when my kid was a junior, he was approached by Richt at a camp and he asked him “So, do you have any interest in attending the University of GA?” My kid responded with “Absolutely Coach. I’d love to be a bulldog.”
Flat out absolute lie it was … but you never know.
