Ichiro Traded to the Yankees
Ichiro, the star outfielder of the Seattle Mariners, has been traded to the Yankees in exchange for DJ Mitchell and Danny Fahrquar, according to Jack Curry of the YES Network. We speculated last month that Ichiro’s days in Seattle were numbered, and the last-place Mariners finally pulled the trigger.
Rich get richer? Of course. Brett Gardner was lost for the season due to surgery recently, so expect to see Ichiro patrolling the outfield at Yankee Stadium very soon. Tonight, the Yankees continue their West Coast trip … in Seattle.
Go get that ring, Ichiro.

His OBP is .288 this year. It was .310 last year. The Yankees aren’t exactly getting richer here. He’s below average offensively at this point.

Wow, the rich didn’t get richer here. Ichiro is not the old Ichiro. I’m shocked Mr. Nintendo let this happen. Thank god he’s gone, been a long time coming (year and a half, but still). Enjoy your $20-million slap hitter.

Between Ichiro and Kidd, New York City is stockpiling past-their-prime superstars whose respective cultures subjugate women in their own special way.
July 23rd, 2012 at 6:25 PM
This will draw attention away from the fact that the Tigers just grossly overpaid for a mediocre middle infielder and a back of the rotation national league starting pitcher.
July 23rd, 2012 at 6:25 PM
just make sure not to take your kids to any Yankee games unless you want them to turn into asiana…

Wow, what a bunch of dipshittery. I knew that I knew more about baseball than everyone here, but this just confirms it. Yankees will win it all for what has to be like the 4th straight year, right?

July 23rd, 2012 at 6:28 PM
This actually led me to look up Alex Rodriguez stats the past 3-4 years. I guess I haven’t paid much attention to the Yankees. Without steroids, ARod is really really a mediocre baseball player.
July 23rd, 2012 at 6:28 PM
That doesn’t seem like a bad trade to me, Worms. Jacob Turner probably will look better in Miami than he ever would have in Detroit but I think it helps the Tigers this year.

Ha yea. I was headed out to dinner when it started to hit. That shit was exciting to drive through. I was more afraid of driving by trees that were swaying pretty well. The most annoying thing was the National Weather Service sent me about 40 warning messages to my cell phone. They just kept coming and I didn’t even know they could do that.

I think it helps the Tigers this year.
I agree it helps this year. I’m just not sure how much. Infante is a definite upgrade at 2B but I’m not exactly excited about Anibal Sanchez and feel like that’s not a great return for our top starting pitching prospect.
July 23rd, 2012 at 6:50 PM
not sure bout that one but sounds in the ballpark.

Oh relax (enhance your mellow), I’m just kidding, never even been there except for a 2-hour layover at that beautiful airport.
July 23rd, 2012 at 7:03 PM
I’ve been there. Interviewed there, the people were assholes, the city sucked, and I vowed to never go back.
Granted it was probably a small section/subpopulation but I’ve made up my mind. I used to defend Pittsburgh, having lived there 4 years, but I just went back there, and that’s another shithole that lives up to the stereotypes. The first Pittsburgher that doesn’t jump in front of a car to cross a street against a light while smoking and yelling at someone on a cell phone would be the first.

Am I the only one here who’s too dumb to read most of the stats on fangraphs? I think I’ll just wait for Keith Law to tell me if I should be outraged or excited about this Tigers trade.
July 23rd, 2012 at 7:05 PM
What a fucking atrocity of modern transportation. I’d put it probably as my least favorite airport, behind maybe only Reagan Nat’l (I think its R.N.).
Pittsburgh incidentally has a very nice airport.

July 23rd, 2012 at 7:11 PM
Philly I’ve heard mentioned as a shitty airport, but the four (?) times I’ve been there have all been good. One time, my bag beat me to baggage claim (always nice). Another time was during the baggage handlers strike, and out of 100 people on my flight, only 4 bags made it through, two of which were mine.
Sky Harbor is nice though, or was 10 years ago.
Charlotte can suck a dick. They have special engineers there to figure out the way to make you run the furthest to make a connection.
July 23rd, 2012 at 7:11 PM
DCA is quite possibly the greatest airport known to all mankind. I can usually get there 20-30 min to flight time and still have time to get over to Hudson News for a water and snacks before I board.

The Tigers trade is fine. Jacob Turner might be a top of the rotation guy in a couple of years, Anibal is a solid middle of the rotation guy right now. Infante is a clear upgrade at 2B. Brantly is a potential starter at C but isn’t exactly a star. That other pitcher might not ever make the majors
July 23rd, 2012 at 7:12 PM
Lived in Nashville for a while and loved the airport. Small and easy to get through. Lived in middle of nowhere Abilene TX and airport even smaller. Moved to Dallas and both airports are horrible.

Moved to Dallas and both airports are horrible.
I used to think this of DFW. Then I experienced JFK.
July 23rd, 2012 at 7:14 PM
They’ve re-done a lot. It’s a fairly nice airport, though much harder to get in and out of parking/pickup, with the increase in flights. The live country music sometimes, which is a fitting touch.
July 23rd, 2012 at 7:14 PM
I always fly out of John Wayne; cleanest most straightforward airport out there, though there are no int’l flights….

Not me. Loved the area. When we moved is when they started to have live country music in the airport. Like you said- nice touch. What I loved, other than breezing through, was when picking people up, you could park 20 feet from the doors. Awesome.

For my birthday in September, I’m thinking of going to either Memphis or Seattle with my wife. Do you guys have any thoughts?
July 23rd, 2012 at 7:56 PM
memphis – pros: possible tv appearance (first 48). cons: see pros.
seattle – pros: whole buncha shit. cons: might not end up tv.
July 23rd, 2012 at 7:59 PM
I’ve never been to Seattle, or met many people who didn’t like it there.
Memphis is… well, you have to know what you are getting into. There’s things to do, but you have to know them and not just wander around the city (that can be dangerous). That said, I think the music on Beale street is better than music in Nashville, and the musical talent level at every bar is phenomenal. I last went on a Sunday night, where the music was still good, but no crowds/cover. If you go to Memphis, be sure to check out Rum Boogie (with James Govan there), blues at its finest for sure. Lots of good BBQ (Rendez-vous has some of the best dry rub you’ll find anywhere). There are some nice suburb areas with galleries etc I think, though I haven’t been out there.
I’ve been twice and going back in December, so just don’t let yourself get turned off by the no-so-nice areas.
July 23rd, 2012 at 8:01 PM
How did you arrive at those 2 cities? Instead of Memphis, you could save quite a bit of money and just drive through the worst parts of your city.

I don’t know about tailgating on a boat, but I’d recommend doing one of those whale watching things. You could spend a morning out at the pier, as well. You could see a Sounders game, just for the atmosphere alone. I feel like there’s more to do up there. Shit, you could drive across the border and say you went to Canada for an hour.
Outside of Beal Street and maybe Graceland, I don’t see a lot to do in Memphis. Sorry, Memphis folks.
July 23rd, 2012 at 8:22 PM
I’ve gone for one night both times…. that’s about it. Beale Street (I have no interest in the touristy Elvis stuff… “pay $20 to look at his old airplane!”
Even the old Sun Studios and stuff is overrated.

I was in Memphis for about 5 days this spring. It was fun. It’s a good place to drink too much and eat a ton of bbq. Don’t know if that makes for a great vacation, though.
July 23rd, 2012 at 8:53 PM
Sounds like a good time for any vacation to me. I’m heading to Vegas in a few weeks for the first time in about 4 years. It’s going to be a shitshow. Last time there my brother got cut off at the bar at 3 in the afternoon before shitsharting, and that was only the first day.
