NCAA to Announce “Unprecedented Penalties” Against Penn State, According to CBS News
CBS News is reporting that the NCAA will announce what a high ranking official called “unprecedented penalties” against Penn State University and the football program. “I’ve never seen anything like it,” the source told Armen Keteyian.
The announcement from President Mark Emmert is supposed to occur tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.
Of course, you might recall the last time CBS News and Armen Keteyian had the big exclusive in regard to the Penn State Scandal: the much-hyped (by CBS) Mike McQueary interview. It lasted a whole 24 seconds, and gave us “like a snow globe.” Based on that prior precedent, I can only assume that these unprecedented penalties involve the loss of a scholarship for the football team.

Double top secret probation.
“Disperse, people. Nothing to see here. Go on with your lives as if nothing happened.”

For which NCAA violation?

Unprecedented action=no action

Smells like at least no football for two years, and no bowl games for a couple after that.

For that reason, I have decided that it is in the best interest of our university and public safety to remove the statue and store it in a secure location.

Really? Sounds a little “scorched earth policy” to me.

Come To Penn State!

Penn State killed McNair!

Well this should finally put an end to all sexual abuse, thank goodness. NCAA truly is heroic.

Its amazing that a fucking statue is front page news EVERYWHERE. Shootings, nah. Presidential election, nah. Drought, nah. Fucking statue.
I’m still interested in what NCAA rule was broken, and how a first offense could possibly be “worst penalty evar.”

I honestly figured they would take at least a year to do anything. Has the NCAA already done its investigation?

If only PSU was a Catholic University. They could have just transferred Sandusky to be DC at another school, and no one would be the wiser.

I am as well.
sincerely,
everyone

Guess here is that the only “unprecedented” part will be the lack of a notice of allegations, hearings, etc. Penalties themselves will probably be the usual stuff.
July 22nd, 2012 at 11:32 AM
Has PSU penalized itself yet? This is odd. Usually a school can say we are doing X and the NCAA agrees or disagrees.

Don’t be naive. You missed the step of using collection plate money to pay off the victims, and to relocate Sandusky.

They enabled a serial child rapist for 12+ years because they didn’t want the football program to lose money. But technically they didn’t commit any NCAA violations, so lets just not do anything, right?
Nice world we live in

Penn State football revenue in 2010: $70M
Penn State fundraising revenue in 2011: $208M
Penn State operating budget in 2012: $4.3B
After reading the Freeh report and learning about things like the report ignoring Spanier batting down the BoT trying to gain more oversight over operations that this had much more to do with protecting Spanier’s autonomy and fundraising than with protecting the football team or Joe Paterno or Jerry Sandusky.

Everyone involved in jail, soon to be in jail, or dead. Fines to be levied, civil punishments to be paid, legacies destroyed, reputations ruined.
But if the NCAA doesn’t do gussy up some charges and look tough, everyone got off scott free!

How could this be front page news “everywhere”? Which newspapers got news of this before they went to print and decided to put THIS on the front page? Or do you mean websites? Because if so…
Presidential election – been going on for months, will continue to go on for months
Drought – Been going on, still going on. Nothing changing.
Colorado theater shooting – Happened Thursday. Unless authorities release some new devastating info about the lunatic who did this, it is older news than this.
I’m not disagreeing with the idea of your post, just the way you presented it.

Well stated.
