Yahoo! Report Suggests Miami Committed Recruiting Violations Under Al Golden
Based on phone records, testimony in the Nevin Shapiro trial and information relayed by a former Miami athletic department employee, Charles Robinson is reporting Miami used equipment manager Sean “Pee Wee” Allen as a third-party recruiter, whose contact and benefits provided may be NCAA violations.
Allen, who had ties to Nevin Shapiro, worked for Miami from Golden’s hiring through August 2011 when he was let go after being linked with the Shapiro scandal. His phone records indicate contact with multiple Miami recruits in the 2011 and 2012 classes. Al Golden had direct knowledge of his activities
A brief sampling from the report.
On the evening of Jan. 22, 2011, the former Hurricanes staffer alleged that Allen arranged for Hurricanes defensive end Olivier Vernon and visiting recruit Anthony Chickillo to gain entrance to BT’s Gentlemen’s Club in Coral Gables. The former Hurricanes staffer said Allen paid for Chickillo’s drinks and entertainment at the strip club. Allen’s phone records show that between 6:49 p.m. and 11:10 p.m. that night, he traded 12 phone calls with Vernon and two with defensive tackle Marcus Forston – the two players who were hosting Chickillo on his official visit that weekend.
College football is a sport where Trent Richardson, unemployed at that point with two kids, gets pulled over in a $50,000 car and we make a collective decision to ignore it. We are not deluded enough to feign outrage about third-party recruiting. These are students, athletes and assets worth potentially millions of dollars to the athletic departments involved. It is long past time for rules enforceable and commensurate with the sports they govern.
What we will say is this bodes well neither for Golden and his future employment nor Miami’s ongoing NCAA investigation.

Ever heard of Volbeat? Anything off their CD Guitar Gangstas and Cadillac Blood is worth a listen.
July 20th, 2012 at 9:39 PM
yeah, volbeat is pretty sweet. hallelujah goat is one of my favorites off that. partly from the name, mostly from the music.

What kind of music you like Kaiser?

If Al Golden is unemployed, Penn State alums will be clamoring for him to go back to State College if Bill O’Brien falters, I assure you.
July 20th, 2012 at 9:51 PM
That’s providing they have a season, but I’m sure they will.

I’m game. Guessing most of the usual suspects are doing the Friday night party thing.

July 20th, 2012 at 10:12 PM
i’m pretty wide ranging in terms of music taste, hard rock, thrash, blues, jazz, classic rock alternative and anything but country.
July 20th, 2012 at 10:17 PM
I have playlists for all of these, plus I’ve included rap in my work out playlists.
Some country music is OK, but I wouldn’t consider myself a country fan.

One time on SAC alert (I was a 1st Lt then), we had an klaxon response exercise. You were supposed to get swiftly respond to your jet, decode a radio transmission, then act accordingly.
Proper response that day was to acknowledge the code & shut down the engines. I mis-decoded the message and told my crew “it’s a mover” – we would pretend to launch, but actually taxi down the runway. We were the only jet out of seven to move. Nowhere to hide, in that event.
(If it had been a mover, first one out of chocks would be first one back in the designated parking spot. It took roughly 15 minutes or more to park each jet after a mover & you could only move one jet at a time. If you were last in line, you could be on your plane 60 minutes or more. On a hot day, that was brutal.)
I single-handedly got my crew in trouble with the wing commander and director of ops (both O-6s). Got myself de-certified, where I had to remedially re-qualify to sit alert. Took many months to get that behind me.

When I was 23, I was seeing this girl. She was more like “friend with benefits”, even though that term didn’t exist back then.
Anyway, I was at some party during the summer and was a little more than half drunk. Eventually, I got in the mood for love, so I took a ride to her place. She was my age and still lived with her parents. I pulled up and saw no one home. Drunken logic dictated that I clearly needed to see if anyone was home and to simply let myself in. Which I did. For whatever reason, the back door was unlocked.
I went up to her room and promptly drunkenly passed out. I woke up and no one was home.
Turns out, the whole family was down the shore for weekend.
So, not only did I not get laid, but I was technically guilty of B&E.

I ran a 1986 Honda Accord fastback off a country road. I was going 125 MPH, saw someone turn in front of me. Hit the brakes and turned the wheel (really dumbass move). The car kept going straight until the wheels caught. Then, I went through an 8 foot ditch, missed a pole by less than 5 feet and ended up about 50 feet into a freshly plowed corn field.
The 3 dudes in the car with me (after attempting to dry out the piss they lost) pushed the car back into the ditch, back out of the ditch, and onto the road.
Amazingly, that car (which last I knew was 15 years old and had 375,000 miles on it) had no scratches and only two pans underneath turned 90 degrees.

I haven’t since I was a very young guy. I couldn’t do it again, unless it was controlled circumstances like a racetrack. Even then, I don’t think I could do it. I get the sweaty palms at 90 now.
I drove like a bat out of hell, but I was damn good at it. Well, I was until I thought I could turn on a straight away with my brakes squealing at over 100 mph. Jesus, I was so fucking stupid.

Nice! I love summer concerts…
It seems like, in the 90′s, there were more summer tours with various bands. I just don’t see as much of that now. I have friends that are big country music fans that go to a ton of summer shows. It’s just not my scene.
I’m going to see Springsteen on Sunday of Labor Day weekend at Citizen’s Bank ball park. It’ll be my 10th or so time seeing Bruce and I’m looking forward to the tailgating more than the actual concert.

Believe it or not, you’re pretty safe going to most waterfront events in Camden.
Those parking and event fees, etc, are a great source of revenue for Camden. Lots of police presence at almost every event I’ve been to at the aquarium, the minor league ballpark, the concert site, etc.. I’ve never felt unsafe going to an actual event in Camden…..just don’t go where you shouldn’t and it’s all good.
July 20th, 2012 at 10:46 PM
srod, olney tweeted that would be one of the best comebacks of the year. i told him some would argue that a score like that is not ‘best’ anything. was this a strasburg game? him going 5 IP all the time seems counterproductive. i thought studs were supposed to eat innings, save pens. is this because he’s young, coming off injury, both?
July 20th, 2012 at 10:46 PM

I don’t see any of them anymore. I am still pretty good friends with a couple of their good friends from HS (they were a couple years younger than me). I just don’t really like to talk about it… and neither do they. I am pretty sure that I absolutely scared them to death that night.
Funny thing is, I wasn’t that scared. I was pissed. And it really didn’t stop me from still going balls out for another couple years.

This, and the GM is squeamish. Hard to be a leader when you are afraid of public opinion. Strasburg could get hurt again at inning 159. Whatcha gonna do then, Mike Rizzo?
It was a Strasburg game. Steady drizzle during the middle innings, Strasburg lost his control, and was at 90-some pitches before finishing 6 innings. They were up 9-2 with two Braves on base when the relievers came on.

Late to tblad, but some country isn’t that bad, mainlyndwight yokum and Willie. I am sucker for pedal steel in any genre. That’s one of the reasons I love mmj. But i also love sepultura and mastodon. There is a ton of good music out there, just have to look.
July 20th, 2012 at 11:25 PM
agreed. Not sure who I’d rather see there but neither of these 2 did it for me in that role.
July 20th, 2012 at 11:26 PM
i ducked out after about 10:30a est today, not sure what happened after i attempted mocking TBL for putting up a 2nd post of the day not related to the shootings.
July 20th, 2012 at 11:26 PM
didn;t know about the access, meth…short version–12 years as a staff sportsriter for a large chicago area daily doing mostly preps but also pros when needed and my favorite was a class a team that over the years included beckett, adrian gonzalez, willingham, treanor, luis castillo, miguel cabrera, podesdnik, dontrelle willis
freelanced for baseball america, espn3, usa today sports
since 2004 tho, boring trade publication writing
July 20th, 2012 at 11:26 PM
So much modern country is basically pop with a twang. The only mainstream country artists i can tolerate are Darius Rucker and Josh Turner. Kenny chesney can kiss my ass
July 20th, 2012 at 11:27 PM
I won’t argue either point. Personal preference is for the old stuff. My satellite radio free trial just ran out so I’ve been listening to a station out of philly lately and I’ve heard some decent stuff.
July 20th, 2012 at 11:28 PM
Neil young also dominates the dojo. And for some reason I love drinking to dirt road anthem a lot. Beats pit bull.
July 20th, 2012 at 11:28 PM
Maggie Gyllenhaal must suck the meanest dick in Hollywood to get her acting jobs. She sure doesn’t get them on her looks or acting ability.
July 20th, 2012 at 11:29 PM
Ugh. “Where have you gone, oh TBLAD of yesteryear”. Back in the day we’d get about 300 comments from that argument alone and still be friends the next day. I blame Bieber.
July 20th, 2012 at 11:29 PM
So much modern country is basically pop with a twang
no doubt. you have to go alternative to get what used to be real country. nothing stopping you from getting a readers’ digest collection of golden country greats tho, 4 discs from the 20s to the 80s
July 20th, 2012 at 11:29 PM
Uggla made a nice diving stop & throw to close out the game. Braves win.
Go get ‘em tomorrow, Nats.
July 20th, 2012 at 11:30 PM
Vez,
I looked up so many writing jobs over the past few days and there are barely any entry level jobs. I’ve also been looking at some internships for website publications. We’ll see. I hit a mental brick wall a few years ago with writing but know i can do it if i refocused
July 20th, 2012 at 11:30 PM
Okay Kaiser, here are some ideas. I am almost certain you have heard of them, and for some artists i wont list their albums:
Dan Auerbach of the black keys – his solo album “Keep it Hid”
Avett Brothers – i and love and you (hell, everything they make is solid gold in my book)
The Lumineers – self titled
Dr John – “Locked Down” produced by Auerbach
The Head and The Heart – self titled
Of Monsters and Men – my head is an animal
Derek Trucks Band – depends on what you sample and enjoy
Fitz and the Tantrums – Pickin up the pieces
Drive By Truckers – anything, really, but Go Go Boots is amazing
Dawes – Nothing is Wrong
These are some of the more recent gems of the last few years, and just an off the top of my head, but thats a decent start. Now, if you wanna talk older stuff like say NOLA funk, jazz, or rhythm and blues we can do that too!
July 20th, 2012 at 11:30 PM
her looks or acting ability
yet secretary and sherry baby are bonerstarters. her body back then was f-i-n-e
July 20th, 2012 at 11:31 PM
I won’t go into too much detail, but I was blacked out for mine. Most of what i know about that night came from the arresting officer who told me about it later. I’m extremely lucky I didn’t hurt anyone, myself included. Definitely an eye opener to the way I was living my life that’s for sure.
July 20th, 2012 at 11:33 PM
I think her brother does the dick sucking for her.
Love the nickname “The Sad Turtle”. Fits her perfectly.

i don’t mind giving tips/advice, but our situations are pretty different. when i went full-on freelance the past couple years, i had a couple decades experience already. looking to get back into fulltime again with kids all in school this fall
i asked the other day where have you been looking, but no answer. maybe i can share some sites. there are jobs out there, and since you don’t care about entry pay, you have a better chance than me
let me know, i don;t want to push
July 20th, 2012 at 11:33 PM
MP – forgot to mention Circuital as the most recent MMJ offering, but frankly it doesnt hold a candle to some of the EP’s(Chocolate and Ice) or It Still Moves
July 20th, 2012 at 11:34 PM
Dawes is opening for Blitzen Trapper this summer. That would be a good show.
Everything the Avett Brothers have recorded is good. Amazing to think that they used to be a hard rock band back in the day before they formed the current group and started kicking the shit out of folk, rock, and bluegrass.
Fitz and the Tantrums are a fantastic modern soul group. That white boy has some pipes
July 20th, 2012 at 11:34 PM
Heel yeah- good list. Can i add howlin rain, fleet foxes, white denim, grand archives, wax fang, the doves, the whigs, and any gangster rap?
July 20th, 2012 at 11:34 PM
Not wanting to spoil much from the new movie, but there was a point where they show Rachel’s picture in Bruce Wayne’s house and I wondered if they had to think about which version to put in the frame.
July 20th, 2012 at 11:34 PM
I just discovered the reason why TBLAD sucks now. And you can’t blame TST, JPQ, or Dirt for getting ‘gulaged…
You guys are just boring as fuck.
July 20th, 2012 at 11:34 PM
they seem normal looking, which i think is the appeal in that role, and the roles they get in other films.

dude, baby steps. last night was 248 comments. maybe a new crew, but the high-comment total is becoming consistent
July 20th, 2012 at 11:36 PM
Don’t jinx it, Ballz. Over 100+ comments on a Friday night is pretty impressive these days.
July 20th, 2012 at 11:36 PM
It still moves is their best, but circuital is so solid. They just know how to deliver.
July 20th, 2012 at 11:36 PM
Vez, i thought i listed some. Might have been a while after you asked. Ive used a variety of job search sites, googled writing jobs, etc. i actually may apply for the bleacher report (yes, i said it) editorial internship program. What are some places to look?
July 20th, 2012 at 11:37 PM
Perhaps Vlad will show up and make things more interesting for you.
July 20th, 2012 at 11:37 PM
135 comments under topic of “dumbest thing you’ve ever done” and “music suggestions”…? even you know that would have turned out at least 100 more comments w/o TST, JPQ and Dirt. i remember a few Beatles debates with you and a few others… Vlad i think, from some time ago.
July 20th, 2012 at 11:37 PM
AM Roundup clocked in at 500+ comments.

I get that. Bet it’s already over 100, and what are we talking about? Maggie Gylennhall? Or however the hell you spell that name?
July 20th, 2012 at 11:38 PM
Heard of exactly 1 of these bands.
and none of these.
July 20th, 2012 at 11:39 PM
Ballz, how can we spice things up?
July 20th, 2012 at 11:39 PM
What we will say is this bodes well neither for Golden and his future employment nor Miami’s ongoing NCAA investigation.
Boo hiss. My highly biased sources are saying the infractions are not newly discovered and are considered secondary. This doesn’t bode anything for Al Golden or the program
July 20th, 2012 at 11:39 PM

July 20th, 2012 at 11:42 PM
Dumbest thing I’ve ever done seems impossible to remember or narrow down but off the top of my head I’m pretty embarrassed that I spent a bunch of money on a stripper that never even beejed for me. I took her out 3 times and she used a different name each time. Awesome
July 20th, 2012 at 11:42 PM
Can’t vouch for the voracity of Yahoo’s! claims, but what in the flying fuck was Golden thinking keeping ANYONE around that was arm and arm with Shapiro? It really looks awful, regardless of what really happened.
July 20th, 2012 at 11:42 PM
I actively skip posts where spencer, golfercraig, Urinal mint, and others start talking golf and about their clubs/other gear. I dont mind watching some golf on tv but few things here more boring than golf chatter.
July 20th, 2012 at 11:43 PM
avett brothers pair well with my bourbon. nice recommendation.
and i’m looking for something that is similar to the Justified theme. that’s been elusive to me.

Typical comment from somebody who wasn’t even there when that morbid thread took place. Vlad was blackout drunk and pretty much came out of the closet. I was there, called him out, then he started spamming my Facebook account until I blocked him.

The worst is when it’s some post completely unrelated that people are actually commenting on (not a TBL mark). The good thing is usually the posts are so long that you know to skip past without reading.

Ballz, I WAS the other person that was there for that one. You called me a some sort of name for talking about a beer I was drinking as if I was looking for credibility or something. Then he showed up.
July 20th, 2012 at 11:47 PM
What are some places to look?

lots of freelance and blogging sites. pay is low, but again, that’s not your concern right now

Most anything pairs well with good bourbon. I’ve been enjoying a bottle of Eagle Rare lately. It’s not Pappy but definitely drinkable.
July 20th, 2012 at 11:48 PM
I can’t argue against them doing that. If I ever got into a discussion about Formula 1 with Broccoli Beef, Bueller, and Billy Buckner on here, the same thing would happen. But they’ve all been chased away.
July 20th, 2012 at 11:49 PM
Thanks vez. Pay can be low. My concern is just getting paid. Ive had one day of work the past month and a half. Fucking per diem jobs. Survey research is the worst

i was there too. tried to disassociate myself the next day when folks were laughing about it
July 20th, 2012 at 11:50 PM
Buckner shows up every now and then. Ive seen Beef here one day out of the past couple months. He’ll probably show up during football season.

almost picked that up tonight, pappy wasn’t on the shelf.
one of the liquor stores near me just expanded their bourbon section. bad timing since my wife and i are trying to cut back on booze. but there’a a whole lot i’ve never heard of.
July 20th, 2012 at 11:50 PM
Ok. That sounds like something I’d do. But how could you not notice Vlad being gay as hell? And me just being an innocent by-stander in all that mess.

Blantons and “O’ Brother” for me tonight. Twas a good evening.
kaiser – ill give that a listen and see what i can find tomorrow
July 20th, 2012 at 11:55 PM
I’m jealous. None of the liquor stores near me have a good selection. My bro in law was at a store in AZ the other day and called me because they had Pappy in stock. he bought a bottle for me for when I come visit in the fall.
I’ll keep an eye out for it and give it a whirl if I find some.
July 20th, 2012 at 11:57 PM
It was summer of 2011 when Shapiro’s guilty conscience became a matter of public record. I’m not saying it was smart to keep the guy on but this latest bombshell from Charles Robinson is based on something that pre-dates the original story
July 20th, 2012 at 11:57 PM
on top of that they also expanded their beer selection, getting some Kona Brewing Co. labels, and some high quality canned beer from Flying Dog. and, some nice Polish and eastern european beer that’s good if you like pilsners.
July 20th, 2012 at 11:58 PM
Please have some sort of success rg3, please. I don’t want to see you flop.
July 21st, 2012 at 12:00 AM
Now I’m really jealous. PA forces you to go to seperate stores to buy liquor/wine and cases of beer. You can buy 6 or 12 packs at bars and some grocery stores but are limited to certain hours and certain quantities at any 1 time.
July 21st, 2012 at 12:00 AM
I’m willing to do my part to get this sucker to 200 comments.

the only time i went to PA to buy beer was for the cases. since i lived right across the delaware it made sense to do that, otherwise, buying booze in PA was terrible.
everyone i know in PA a stone’s throw from NJ cross the border for it.

Sigh. ’tis true. The Hurricanes are really a solidly 1 dimensional team. And it’s not even an on-the-field dimension. Wait, were you even talking to me?
July 21st, 2012 at 12:06 AM
Nothing frustrates me more than the backwards ass laws we have in NC governing booze sales. If I want Pappy I have to order a case of it at a time, so some buddies and I order it every year when it’s available. Moreover, I always buy bourbon and scotches I can’t get here when I travel for work. One time I was with the boss and had to explain to him my trip to the store. He laughed and said I might as well be bringing wine back from France.
July 21st, 2012 at 12:06 AM
I’m not far from NJ, maybe 25 mins, but an hour round trip just to go to a liquor store for booze and beer at the same time doesn’t make sense to me.
July 21st, 2012 at 12:08 AM

Night TBLAD’ers, enjoy The Open which starts in less than seven hours. Tiger and the leaders shortly after 10. Get pumped, east coast people.

yuengling so it’s worth it
When we play teams in NY for a wood bat league, we will stop to pick up Yuengling. We played a team right near the border and a couple of guys kept driving to pick up a bunch of it and arrived about 15min before gametime. Was worth it afterwards though.

story in condensed form:
went to target after work.
had $115 in gift cards.
bought a ton of stuff.
took a picture of everything on the checkout conveyor belt for facebook cause i’m a dick like that.
girl behind me thought i was awesome for doing that.
she was short, cute and a c-cup. guessed 21-23 in my head
made small talk. nothing further.
spent $8 after gift cards.
in parking lot, female co-worker friend said i should have got her number.
saw girl again as we were putting everything in the car.
manned-up, asked for her number.
she told me she was 16 and going to be a junior in HS. class of 2014
MOTHER FUCKING FUCK!
laughed all the way home.
