I could see why they would want a super haul considering the Suns were able to flip their 38 year old PG that they didn’t want back for two firsts and two seconds. If I was Orlando I would wait until you get closer to the deadline now. Some team will think they have a chance at a title with the addition of Dwight and pony up.

Also, I’m not sure not signing an extension should preclude a team for dealing for him. Trading for him now gives the team that is getting him a full year to sell Howard (through his reps) on their merits of their particular franchise. The notion that he won’t sign an extension also gives the team trying to acquire him added leverage during negotiation.

I admit this is not likely, but it’s certainly possible under the right circumstances.
