Glaring Omissions From the Top 50 Players in College Basketball for 2012-2013 List
Last week, we ranked the 50 best players in college basketball for the 2012-2013 season. You were impressed and outraged, and as folks are wont to do when lists pop up online, you submitted a bunch of glaring omissions. There’s no particular order to the names you’re about to read. With a few pithy comments from yours truly!
Sean Kilpatrick, G, Cincinnati – 14.3 ppg, one of the best returning guards in the Big East.
Cashmere Wright, G, Cincinnati – 10.9 ppg, 4.6 apg and such a cool name.
Tim Frazier, G, Penn State – Some people really, really like Frazier (18.8 ppg, 6.2 apg). Hell, somebody likes him more than DeShaun Thomas of Ohio State!
DeAndre Kane, G, Marshall – A knack for scoring and getting the rim, he averaged 15.1 ppg as a freshman and 16.5 as a sophomore.
Jeronne Maymon, F, Tennessee – I’m on team Stokes, but Maymon put up 12.7 ppg and 8.1 rpg last season.
Mark Lyons, G, Arizona – Had him on my initial list, but was unaware of the transfer to Arizona from Xavier. Probably 52 in my book.
Nick Faust, G, Maryland – Could possibly double his 8.9 ppg as a freshman.
Ben McLemore, G/F, Kansas – Incoming freshman generated the most “HOW COULD YOU FORGET THIS GUY” responses.
Isaiah Austin, C, Baylor – “Hey Jason, how is this guy in your mock draft, but not Top 50?” Daniel Orton was a 1st round pick who did nothing in college. Yes, I know the two players are nothing alike, but the NBA loves bigs, hence the lottery guess.
Michael Carter Williams, PG, Syracuse – I went with Triche over MCW, but I am a big fan of the latter. I still wonder why he didn’t get any burn in March.
CJ Fair, F, Syracuse – Like him, think he plays a valuable role, but don’t think he’s anywhere near a Top 50 player in the country.
Vincent Council, G, Providence – How’d I forget this guy! Averaged 15.9 ppg, 7.5 apg, and likely will be preseason All-Big East, 1st team.
Victor Oladipo, G, Indiana – If he’d made it, that would have made three Hoosiers.

Keep going until every player in the sport is named…looking forward to the post where I can wax poetic about Ryan Evans’ high top fade

I didn’t yell at you. He hasn’t done anything. He could turn into Josh Selby 2.0 which would mean he would crack the Top 500.
/slight exaggeration.

KC – must have heard from a dozen Kansas fans. Plus, Jeff Goodman, who appears to be tight with Bill SElf.

Wouldn’t have mattered, game was fixed in OSU’s favor regardless of who played.

TBL…I think you’d fit in perfectly on the ESPN NBA Draft set…you love a lot of players.

Don’t know if he’s top 50 good, but can’t wait for LaQuinton Ross at Ohio State. Supposedly tearing it up over the summer and looking like he’ll be OSU’s second leading scorer

Love me some Dipo but he’s not a top 50 player yet. Willing to bet he will be going into his senior year though.

No Melsahn Basabe?!?
/only Iowa player I can name off the top of my head

He doesn’t deserve it after disappointing last year, but I’m hoping Tim Hardaway Jr is on next year’s list

Yep. Q is going to have a big, big year. The NCAA ruling on his eligibility really cost him the entire year last year. I would have loved to see him with those guys last year full time.

How on Earth is Crean going to get burn for all those guys on IU’s roster?

WTF I just had a long response to Wally’s question completely disappear

Trying again….
The good thing is that none of the freshmen are 1 and done talents, and everyone seems to buy into the team first mentality that Crean preaches. Seems like Yogi and Hollowell are the only incoming guys with the game to start right away, but not sure either of them will. Yogi would be more likely because there is no true PG on the roster.
The top 8 will be Yogi, Hulls, Dipo, Sheehey, Watford, Zeller, Hollowell, Perea. No idea what to expect from Mo Creek, just hope he stays healthy. Have to think it will be tough for Elston, Abell and Etherington to see a lot of minutes. Jurkin is a project.
Whoever is playing, I know I can’t wait for the season.

What did the judge end up ruling on Ryan Harrow?
