Halle berry – gorgeous, but insane and a mediocre actress
July 18th, 2012 at 8:33 AM
how about an Obama/Romney debate in the comments?
This happens every morning
July 18th, 2012 at 8:33 AM
I look forward to Lin skipping a playoff series in three years to maintain an absurd market value.

Dave Justice. Legend.
July 18th, 2012 at 8:36 AM
If the Tigers are willing to give up Nick Castellenos for Hamels, then I am all for this.
July 18th, 2012 at 8:36 AM
Best Halle Berry movie? Gotta go B.A.P.S.
July 18th, 2012 at 8:36 AM
good link. I love looking at old photo’s like that.
/please fix the site Jason
July 18th, 2012 at 8:37 AM
You’d think the shame of admitting that she fell for it would have kept the police out of this…there has to be a point when you’re retelling the story that you feel like a complete idiot, right?
July 18th, 2012 at 8:38 AM
Dude wasn’t just trying to scare them away, he wanted blood, chasing after them firing away. Awesome.
Someone will have to explain to me what exactly they plan on stealing at an internet cafe. You going to make me login to my bank and wire you money?
July 18th, 2012 at 8:38 AM
Two robbers burst into an internet cafe blazing guns … and a 71-year old man fires back. Movie stuff here, folks. You kids get out of my Internet cafe!!!

Dear Alaska,
I know you don’t know me, but it would totes awesome if you could keep Pitbull there for a while. Maybe, like, forever. And his “music”; God, if you could keep that as well that would be great. Now I know we aren’t friends or anything, but if you could do me one more solid and maybe kill him and bury him in a snow drift, that would be awesome. Thanks in advance for your help!
Sincerely,
Everyone
July 18th, 2012 at 8:45 AM
You going to make me login to my bank and wire you money?
To be fair, that is the plot of alot of movies.
July 18th, 2012 at 8:46 AM
how about an Obama/Romney debate in the comments?
I know people give CNN shit all the time, but if I were starting a cable news network, David Gergen would be one of my first hires. Guy has the experience of working in the shit and he’s turned into a great analyst.
July 18th, 2012 at 8:46 AM
You keep filming me, I’m going to fock you up! lol
More people should have this approach, say like politicians, athletes, etc.
July 18th, 2012 at 8:46 AM
that is a pretty shitty review.
July 18th, 2012 at 8:48 AM
Here’s some pretty cool pics of kids from the 40′s…

Someone will have to explain to me what exactly they plan on stealing at an internet cafe.
It was a matter of principle, obviously. Some things will not stand.
July 18th, 2012 at 8:51 AM
Just exactly who or what the fuck is Pitbull?
Does this have anything to do with Michael Vick’s soon to be released autobiography?
July 18th, 2012 at 8:52 AM
Romney is to 2012 as John Kerry was to 2004.
/it’s not happening
July 18th, 2012 at 8:54 AM
but oddly enough, unlike Kerry in 2004, the GOP is even teeing off on his tax returns.
makes me wonder what their convention will be like.
could see Ron Paul have a significant impact on the GOP ticket like Ross Perot did in 1992.
July 18th, 2012 at 8:55 AM
Spencer – thanks for that golf note. We can discuss further on gchat later if you’re free.
July 18th, 2012 at 8:55 AM

It’s a longshot — but a brokered convention could happen.

Shooting a handgun accurately is hard. But if you’re going to go to the trouble of owning one, wouldn’t you learn how to shoot?
He missed that guy who was standing 4 feet away.
July 18th, 2012 at 8:59 AM
Just exactly who or what the fuck is Pitbull?
an impressive individual solely based on the fact the in the exxon bathroom known as pop music, he is one of the turds that smell rises above the rest.
July 18th, 2012 at 8:59 AM
Absolutely love this hypothetical college football mock draft. Wish I had come up with it myself. But I would not have had Tyler Bray 40th.
I do hope that was your sarcasm font you were using there.

According to the Tigers, they actually want to keep this prospect and have asked teams to stop asking for him.
July 18th, 2012 at 9:04 AM
Two robbers burst into an internet cafe blazing guns … and a 71-year old man fires back. Movie stuff here, folks.
Awesome.
Funniest part is the woman wandering around plugging her ears.
“Excuse me little missy, but you’re in my line of fire.”
If you’re not pulling a trigger, then get the hell outta the way.
July 18th, 2012 at 9:05 AM
Okay, so I don’t follow the NBA at all, but obviously know about “Linsanity”. Did he do anything after those crazy 2-3 weeks, or was it just a great run?
July 18th, 2012 at 9:05 AM
I have heard this as well. Rangers don’t seem to willing to let go of Olt either. Disappointing, but might as well try.
July 18th, 2012 at 9:05 AM
Boom. Boom. Boom. Boom. Yo quiero tacos bell. = distinguished turd scent
July 18th, 2012 at 9:09 AM
that “c’mon make it feel good” scene in Monster’s Ball is always a stop-everything-and-watch moment for me
July 18th, 2012 at 9:09 AM
Did he do anything after those crazy 2-3 weeks, or was it just a great run?
IMO, a great run and the rockets are idiots.
July 18th, 2012 at 9:10 AM
Everything I’ve read says they should’ve re-signed him simply because he was Chinese. Evidently it’s OK to keep shitty players so long as they sell jerseys in Shanghai.
July 18th, 2012 at 9:11 AM

so this is like TBL’s ‘contract the Pirates’ campaign after they traded “All-Star” Nate McClouth.

Probably an extra from a Rambo movie.

i swear this is going to be daryl morey’s justification for the contract.

They have a Center going #2 overall. Apparently Jeff Ireland is the GM for Texas State.
/throws draft in the garbage.

I don’t know…if Obama keeps saying stupid stuff, he could lose.
the only way obama loses is if he hangs dong at a rally.
July 18th, 2012 at 9:14 AM
Romney’s motorcade drove by me yesterday, I like that he uses Fords to try and appear like he’s a regular guy. Cock-brigadoon.
July 18th, 2012 at 9:15 AM
the only way obama loses is if he hangs dong at a rally. MP III
But think of the pageviews.
July 18th, 2012 at 9:16 AM
I just have to ask: How awesome is that old man shooting robbers if, as he’s gunning for the fleeing robbers, he hits some random person who just happens to be walking by on the street? Don’t tell me that’s not a possibility because that old dude missed the one guy from like 3 feet away, and he was absolutely firing out into the street.
July 18th, 2012 at 9:16 AM
Depends, if it’s big it could subconsciously inspire American confidence again
July 18th, 2012 at 9:18 AM
yeah, this is a non story considering it was taken wildly out of context.
if they wanted to, the Obama camp could find all the out of context jokes Romney made that make it sound like he’s making fun of Nascar fans, wait staff, the unemployed…
that would be an awesome commercial to see though.
July 18th, 2012 at 9:20 AM
I never get this idea of artistic elitism … my appreciation of say Rhianna’s music isn’t anymore objective than your affinity for I dunno Coldplay any more than my preference for strawberry ice-cream is superior to your preference of butter pecan. Its just a matter of differing tastes.
Pittbull doesn’t make “music” anymore than your favorite artist makes “music” to someone who doesn’t share your tastes in music. It just seems people derive some kind of pleasure in bashing certain artists, eras and genres.
July 18th, 2012 at 9:20 AM
Also, Ford fucking sucks. Shitty pieces of metal with third rate engine and other electronic parts posing as a “car”.
July 18th, 2012 at 9:21 AM
^^^Trolling TBL?
July 18th, 2012 at 9:22 AM
oh?
July 18th, 2012 at 9:24 AM
So I watched the movie Oldboy the other day, and I’d love to know if anyone else has seen or heard of a movie with a story as fucked up as that.
July 18th, 2012 at 9:24 AM
THIS!
You go to youtube to listen to any classic rock song and top comments are always of the “I’m 15 years old. So sorry for what my generation has done to music. You say Rihanna, I say Beatles. You say Katy Perry, I say Led Zeppelin. 90% of teens today don’t know what ‘real’ music is. THUMBS UP IF YOU AGREE!!!” variety. Pisses me off.
July 18th, 2012 at 9:24 AM
the square wheels give it away.
i’ve actually been really impressed with their products lately. The Taurus is nice enough to almost forget all my parents friends who had the mid 90′s version with constant transmission problems.
GMC is pretty nice, Chevy is too cheap, needs to be more like GMC in SUVs and trucks. Dodge is OK, i wouldn’t buy anything outside the Durango, Challenger or Charger though.
July 18th, 2012 at 9:24 AM
Did he ever tweet that he was sorry to Knicks fans for sitting out a playoff series because he was “only” 85%.
Sepinwall’s post was a pretty reasoned take on the Lin situation. Not that I’d advocate giving up fandom for a flash in the wok gimmick, but I found his approach (i.e. not turning Melo into a scapegoat) refreshing.
July 18th, 2012 at 9:25 AM
Ford is actually a lot better now. I’d much rather buy a Ford than a Toyota or Honda at this point. The Japanese quality has plummeted.
July 18th, 2012 at 9:25 AM

There’s a reason vigilante justice should only be in movies (see also: George Zimmerman)
July 18th, 2012 at 9:25 AM
Nowhere did I imply that his “music” was inferior to the stuff that I listen to. I merely implied that his “music” is fucking terrible. At the very least, his music is definitely worse than strawberry ice cream.
July 18th, 2012 at 9:26 AM
halle berry in flinstones is at her peak, with a rock-in costume to show off her assets
i’m actually doing a story on that pitbull campaign, tho not on the pitbull angle
i know, here’s my cookie
July 18th, 2012 at 9:26 AM
A ’96 Sable (same car) was my first car. Transmission dropped out at 100k. They built the front ends so low and long that there was no airflow to the transmissions so they wore down insanely fast, they needed to be built with an intercooler. God damnit I hated that car.
Parking brake was a huge defect as well. If it was ever applied it never completely disengaged and wore the rotors down faster.
July 18th, 2012 at 9:27 AM
Only problem is using shitty Microsoft for Sync which caused lots of electronic problems the past few years.
I’m 4 years into my car, paid it off and hopefully will not be buying a new car anytime soon.
July 18th, 2012 at 9:27 AM

i dont think i derive pleasure from bashing certain artists, but i do find it humorous when people call pitbull and rihanna “music.” i just farted, and it sounded like a pitbull song. sign my anus to a 4 record deal, ASAP!

July 18th, 2012 at 9:28 AM
grrr, snarky blockquote fail
July 18th, 2012 at 9:28 AM
giving up fandom is the ultimate bitch move.
July 18th, 2012 at 9:29 AM
i’d be less critical of pop music now if they just owned up to the fact the “singers” are really just bodies and nearly every aspect of the song (including vocals) was electronically created and manipulated to the point where the “singer” is more like a character in a PIXAR movie.
July 18th, 2012 at 9:29 AM
I’m just curious as to how DerKaiser developed his opinion.
July 18th, 2012 at 9:30 AM
We just got a new Explorer and couple new F150s for our “fleet” here in the office. I’ve never been a fan of trucks, so I can’t really comment on the F150s.
But, I really like the new Explorer. My only real complaint is the the dashboard/radio displays (and the hands free controls on the wheel) are not really intuitive by any means.
July 18th, 2012 at 9:30 AM
This is true. Had a 2006 Rav4 that went to shit (literally leaked water inside when it rained), went and looked at the new ones and they hadn’t changed in 5 years and still felt cheap and crappy. Ended up with a VW Tiguan and fucking love it.
July 18th, 2012 at 9:31 AM
Just go ahead and tell us how awesome My Morning Jacket is…
/never heard one of their songs
July 18th, 2012 at 9:32 AM
I have a 2012 Nissan Sentra, I love the car, but I hate the stereo controls. It has a dock for my ipod but the controls for it are horrendous. Easier to run through an aux cable. Seems like the more tech stuff cars have tried to throw in the more they’ve botched stuff on the stereo front.
July 18th, 2012 at 9:32 AM

i am the same way. at least shitty 80/90s pop included, you know, playing instruments and singing. not really the case now.
now i am getting pissed that someone defended pitbull and rihanna.
July 18th, 2012 at 9:32 AM
Funniest part is the woman wandering around plugging her ears.

i liked the young kid at the end running from the old man, thinking he might just keep blazing

Now Girl Talk, THAT’S music!
/for white people
July 18th, 2012 at 9:34 AM
my wife is due for a new car in the next year or two so i’ve been looking at Ford SUV’s for her. I can’t wait for her to get rid of her CRV, most uncomfortable SUV for anyone 6′ tall with long legs.
July 18th, 2012 at 9:34 AM
These new pop outfits like The Monkees and Milli Vanilli are ruining music in 2012.
July 18th, 2012 at 9:34 AM
I’m just curious as to how DerKaiser developed his opinion.
Well, he admitted he reads youtube comments, so that is probably a good place to start.
July 18th, 2012 at 9:35 AM
Just go ahead and tell us how awesome My Morning Jacket is…
/never heard one of their songs
you know how awesome they are, even if you have never heard them. thats the power of mmj’s aura.
July 18th, 2012 at 9:35 AM
This is becoming an art unto itself though. Almost like certain suits are saying, “Hmmm, how blatant can we be? What’s the most we can get away with? What about this Pitbull guy? How about Ke$ha? Make sure there’s a dollar sign in her name to really piss people off.”
July 18th, 2012 at 9:35 AM
I’ll keep that in mind about the CRV, my wife’s ’02 Altima is on its slow deathbed, and she was interested in CRV. She likes the MDX as well, but not sure we can afford a $38k car in the next year or so.
July 18th, 2012 at 9:35 AM

reminds me of the bulbous penis ep of south park
July 18th, 2012 at 9:35 AM
this horrible analogy explains a lot why you don’t understand artistic elitism.
people who dig art…and i mean REALLY dig art…they don’t see it as fucking ice cream. they see it as part of their soul…and so when some fuckstick who thinks music was invented in the 1960′s starts walking around like their opinion is solid gold despite the fact that 90% of people couldnt explain WHY they like a song or piece of art, shit all over someone who’s both intellectually and emotionally invested in bringing their inner visions to reality’s opinion.
i do take pleasure in bashing certain artists and eras because i have a very defined platonic ideal of what i think art is and should be. doesn’t mean i don’t have respect for artists i don’t like, sure i don’t respect some, but the more you understand about art, the more you can see it in objective terms.
July 18th, 2012 at 9:35 AM
The older models yes, the new models are much, much more roomy. My parents bought one, and it has tons of room. We ended up buying a Honda Pilot…. it’s not much smaller thatn a Tahoe, and the quality it 10x better.
July 18th, 2012 at 9:36 AM
If Lin had played, the Knicks might have won that series against the NBA Champs.
/wanking motion
How anyone could fault Lin, a soon-to-be free agent who had made $dick in his career up to that point, for sitting out is beyond me.
July 18th, 2012 at 9:36 AM
whatever, that makes no sense.
/fuck work
July 18th, 2012 at 9:36 AM
Just go ahead and tell us how awesome My Morning Jacket is…
Very awesome. They play and write their own songs and there is no auto-tune and no backing tracks when they play live.
/I think that is what I’m supposed to say.
July 18th, 2012 at 9:37 AM
This. The 60s, 70s and 80s were FILLED with horrible crap. History only bore out the stuff most people liked for whatever reason.
July 18th, 2012 at 9:37 AM
Speaking of Ford…I like the look of the new Fusion. Kind of looks like an Aston Martin.

agreed. unfortunately my wife’s playlist is full of Rihanna, Pitbull, Usher, Nikki Minaj, Britney, Carly Rae Jepson and Taylor Swift. and LMFAO (they are all right, but they are essentially a party music version of Andrew WK since their songs sound identical)

I wish there was a full-size hatchback that wasn’t German or Japanese. I really don’t want to buy a crossover or small SUV for the extra space & versatility
July 18th, 2012 at 9:38 AM
Have had 2 fords since the redesigns (fusion and escape) and have been very happy with both. Sync could be better at recognizing commands but that’s a pretty minor complaint
3rd time posting

Spencer – THAT’s what I was going to write, but pretty much resigned myself to it not being worth the effort.
Also, MMJ is one of the greatest bands of the last 20 years. Jim James is a master without equal when compared to some of these other slapdicks on the scene.

Tell your friends not to think aloud

Whisper things into my brain

Do you think I could have a drink
Since it’s so hard to swallow
So hard to swallow

So which rhythmic undulatory motion of air particles that triggers a cascade of mechanical and electrical events do you consider music? Whatever it is it may sound like a explosive diarrhea to people who prefer say African soukous.
Its just very narrow minded to only consider music to be any form of air particle gyration that you can appreciate and everything else to be humorous knock-offs of this nebulous concept called music.

i had a 2005 Acura RSX for a while, and while it was a pretty good car, the service centers for Acura and the Parts were terrible.
It really made me second guess why i spent more for the Acura upfront when I could have just gotten a Civic Si for several thousand less if i was ultimately getting a Honda with a shinier name plate.
i don’t think i’ll ever buy a Lexus, Lincoln, Infiniti since they aren’t much different from the cheaper counterparts.

Good idea, bad application. Windows were small and hard to see out of from the side & rear. And, shocking, it was a very inefficient car.
July 18th, 2012 at 9:45 AM
True. We ended up buying a brand new Pilot instead of a used model. We probably paid $4,000 more for one with 10 miles vs. 40,000 or 50,000 miles. Plus Honda redesigned the front end and tweaked the intake and exhaust for a few more horses, plus a few other upgrades. It was a no brainer to buy new.

well godamn! i clearly agree, and for me, MMJ is the best band since the allmans (my other favorite group). i got lucky and stumbled onto MMJ 11 years ago, so I have got to grow with them and see them in tiny clubs and MSG. as much as I love music, i havent got to do that with other bands.

There is no objectivity in arts… we look at or listen to it and its either we like it or we don’t. Its either we appreciate it or we don’t. Can you please objectively assess the merits of art from the Igbo people of central Nigeria… I don’t care how much art is part of your soul, you sir are 100% unable to do that without first looking around to see how many Igbo people actually like that shit.

If it’s part of someone’s soul and just something another person enjoys, I don’t think there can be a mutual conversation there. It’s going to mean more to the “soulful” person always. I think good is always a matter of opinion or relative to a specific set of standards. It sounds like you’ve identified that it’s more important to you and adjusted to the relative mouthbreathers effectively.

this really isn’t worth the effort since, you’re completely wrong. COMPLETELY.
we can’t objectively talk about music? what about the syncopation of the ryhthms that are unique to them? what about their instrumentation? their melodic and harmonic themes? do they use different techniques like rock vs. jazz drummers? do they use strange time signatures? what MAKES this music, this music?
why is german music different than italian music? why is country different in nashville than texas? why is hip-hop different in LA than atlanta?
there are real, live, legitimate reasons that make up art, music, etc that answer all the questions that popped up that have nothing to do with opinion, you just don’t know anything about that side of art.
July 18th, 2012 at 9:53 AM

might have been. i bought mine in PA, serviced at the dealer twice, requested a loaner both times, and despite reserving one for me they didn’t have one. however, the owners who brought in their RL’s and TL’s and the RDX’s for service had one, so i tried a dealer closer to me in NJ and the same thing happened. the brakes and rotors warped after 30K miles.
was just incredibly disappointed, especially from the NJ dealer who advertised being the #1 NJ Service Center from Acura.

So who the fuck are you, then, to try and tell us to quit being “narrow minded” because we happen to classify and organize the “rhythmic undulatory motion of air particles that triggers a cascade of mechanical and electrical events” in a particular manner? You are talking out both sides of your ass, so you should probably just quit while you are ahead. And to the point you are so terribly trying to make, these world music groups that you are trying to site would also tell you that Pitbull is a joke. You think they wouldn’t have a narrow minded view of music and that their creations are superior to others? GTFO.

example…i will make a statement. steve vai is a better guitar player than jimmy page.
lets compare the two…vai has better technique, more knowledge of composition and harmony, has clearer tone, plays more diverse styles and can switch between different time signatures and keys at a moment’s notice.
now that’s a clear, concise argument as to why steve vai is a better guitarist than jimmy page. it’s not about who i like more or who has more fans, it’s simply fact. if you want to harangue on one of those points, fine, we can delve into that more, but the overall theme is clearly laid out and not emotionally charged in the slightest.
objective discussion on art.

my wife has gone through at least 4 sets of brakes on her CRV within 135k miles. she’s a tad heavy on them, but i think the quality of Honda brake pads has just as much to do with it considering i wasn’t heavy on my Acura and they wore out in 30k.

CJ, as someone who’s a few years ahead of you, I would strongly suggest getting a car with a 3rd row. If we want to go anywhere further than 10 minutes with our parents (like out to eat), we need to take a second car because the baby seat basically takes up 2 seats.

that’s all part of creating music.
sticking with the food analogy…if we have two briskets and one’s really dry, isn’t it the lack of technique and skill of the chef that made it dry?

It’s weird having a guy who will consistently bleed counts for the first time since maybe Frank Thomas…if you’ve seen the first two games of the series you’ll have noticed that the White Sox are a little trigger happy with the bats (which is fun when the hits are dropping but when they’re not at least the loss is over with in around 2.5 hours)
July 18th, 2012 at 10:08 AM
Okay so lets say a bunch of people may be even an entire culture happen to like music that doesn’t employ whatever you seem to have figured to be the right technique… what would you call that thing they feel deep in their soul when this thing comes on? Is it really any different from the thing you feel when your thing comes on? or are they not allowed to feel anything positive because the syncopation of the ryhthms whatever that is is a little off?
This sounds like an argument a Jehova Witness would have with a Mormon about who’s god is less retarded and why. Its fruitless since these are very personal preferences that sometimes arise in areas of our neurology that really none of us have active control of. You appear to do a great job of being able to rationalize your preferences while others may take the position that there isn’t really much rationalization for their preference.
The only defensible definition of good art is whatever a lot of people like everything is rationalization of the reverse engineering kind.
July 18th, 2012 at 10:08 AM

I’m not really a post-mordernist… I do believe there is a range of pleasing sensations that humans are evolved to appreciate. Post modernists tend to have a drive to expand this natural palette, i don’t begrudge them but its very likely in the long run a majority of people will return to what comes natural to them a majority of the time. If a significant minority continue to appreciate these unnatural forms of art more power to them.
Now what constitutes elements naturally pleasing to most humans isn’t really specifically PittBull or Beatles but more fundamental concepts that may be difficult to measure but instinctively employed by both.
July 18th, 2012 at 10:16 AM
my ideal of a musical utopia are twenty or so people locked in a practice room who get to come out once per week for an epic six hour jam session that covers every major western and eastern musical movement from 1600 to say…1959. and they get women brought to them, maybe…when they desire them.

that’s the beauty of music tho…i wouldnt want jimmy page to sound clean and perfect because led zep would sound totally differently.
but in terms of quality of musicianship, ability and potential, it’s WRONG to say page is a better guitarist.
same with a lot of instruments. hendrix wasn’t the “best” guitarist, miles wasn’t the “best” trumpet player and flea isn’t the “best” bassist…but when you get guys like coltrane or jaco pastorius or freddie mercury that have BOTH elements, the music/art gets taken to an entirely different level.
similar to a shaq/duncan debate. duncan can do everything very subtly while shaq does a few things that slap you in the face with greatness. both are awesome, just different. but if you had to make a case for either, you could rely on a set of objective observations to make your case.
the case is what matters, not the assertion.

History continues to prove that the set of unknown unknowns is always larger than we expect it to be for obvious reasons. A working knowledge of this keeps one from spending too much time contemplating inaccessible positions.
I really don’t have a position of fairies… i don’t plan for their existence or nonexistence. I guess that makes me fairy agnostic. What is so wrong with “i don’t know” when you really truly don’t know?
