I see him as a lot like Makelele in terms of a signing. Bring in a seasoned veteran who can take the burden off other players, and give you a stopgap in the process of phasing out one generation (Gerrard, Carragher, Kuyt, Maxi, Bellamy) for another (Henderson, Shelvey, Lucas, Sterling, etc). You can’t win JUST with youth, as Arsenal are about to find out once again, you need a mixture. Dempsey would provide that mixture like Bellamy did last year but with properly functioning knees.

OT: I do some volunteer work with the Salvation Army here. We took ten pre-teens to a camp up near Estes Park. Listening to the radio, “Don’t Stop Believing” came on. Half the kids harmonized (!) with Steve Perry. One kid sang along with Jonathan Cain.
