Kris Humphries: $12 Million Man. The Nets’ Starting Lineup All Makes $10+ Million Per Year

Kris Humphries, who was married to Kim Kardashian for a minute and is a inhales rebounds for a living, just signed a 2-year deal with the New Jersey Nets worth $24 million. He’ll make more money than the following players next season (excluding anyone on their rookie deal):
Joakim Noah: $11 million
Rajon Rondo: $11 million (!!!)
Monta Ellis: $11 million
Andrea Bargnani: $10 million
Kris Humphries was a star in high school, had a quiet and brief college career with the Gophers, and basically did nothing in Utah and Toronto and Dallas before getting a chance with the sorry-ass Nets. He’s made the most of his opportunity, averaging 10 ppg and 10.4 rpg in 2010-2011, and then 13.8 ppg and 11.0 rpg last season. With Deron Williams and Joe Johnson jacking up shots, and Brook Lopez being a poor rebounder, Humphries should thrive again as a garbage man.
Here are the starting salaries next season for the Nets:
PG – Deron Williams $19 million (probably; couldn’t find a breakdown of his $98 million, 5-year deal)
SG – Joe Johnson $19 million
SF – Gerald Wallace $10 million (4 years, $40 million)
PF – Humprhies, $12 million
C – Brook Lopez, $13 million (4 years, $61 million contract)
The sad part? If the Knicks don’t retain Jeremy Lin, I think the Nets finished ahead of New York in the East.

Yup, Lin is the difference between 6th and 7th in the East. I can see why the Knicks would want to go all out.

Opulence, I has it.
July 17th, 2012 at 1:30 PM
look, based solely on your last NBA-related post, if you’re searching for a reasoned breakdown of something NBA-related, you probably shouldn’t be searching or linking to this website (unless you’re referencing the commenting thread).

The worst part? Kim still makes more.
July 17th, 2012 at 1:31 PM
Lin or not, the Nets will finish ahead of the Knicks.
Noah is an injury prone 10 and 10 guy. Are their salaries really that far out of whack?
July 17th, 2012 at 1:32 PM
Forget the Knicks record. I’m just mortified that I have to watch Ray Felton suck at basketball.
July 17th, 2012 at 1:32 PM
Jesus butt fucking Christ. That is a ton of money tied into a mediocre starting lineup. Which very well could be good enough for a 4 seed in the East.
July 17th, 2012 at 1:33 PM
Aside from Rondo, is KHump that much worse than those players listed?
July 17th, 2012 at 1:34 PM
the best part of a cataclysmic event bringing about the downfall of society is that she will no longer be on TV or considered relevant.
July 17th, 2012 at 1:34 PM
Not going to mention how the structure of this deal pertains to a future deal w/ the Magic? That’s ok, Hollinger will provide that info:
July 17th, 2012 at 1:35 PM
Humphries averaged 14 and 11. Beast.
July 17th, 2012 at 1:35 PM
Tired.
July 17th, 2012 at 1:36 PM
Safe to say the Nets new regime is a lot smarter than the old one.
July 17th, 2012 at 1:36 PM
What’s scary is that, outside of Humphries, that right there will be the starting line-up for the Nets for the foreseeable future. They have no room or flexibility to add beyond the cheapest of contracts.
So here’s hoping they stay healthy. Good luck!

In college, that’s apparently worthy of being an All-American.
/actually read an NCAA post on here the other day

Grant Hill to the Clippers. Ha
July 17th, 2012 at 1:37 PM
Found it!
PF – Humprhies, $12 million
Bonus!

I’m only outraged by the Rondo deal. And the outrage is only moderate.
If the Nets can piece-meal some sort of a bench, they should be pretty good.
July 17th, 2012 at 1:38 PM
That’s actually a pretty solid starting 5.
July 17th, 2012 at 1:38 PM

There goes McFly McTibbly and that fancy time machine again…
July 17th, 2012 at 1:39 PM
I’d place a wager on that. Nets have been bottom 5 defensive team since Lopez was drafted. And that roster is too thin to win high scoring games.
Yes. Noah plays defense.
July 17th, 2012 at 1:40 PM
My mind is still boggled that the Bulls refuse to make any moves at all. They just sit there.
July 17th, 2012 at 1:41 PM
Then it would seem that Hump’s contract is logical
July 17th, 2012 at 1:41 PM
You know, Kris Humphries life has improved a lot since he got let go by Kim Kardashian. Definitely some causation with that correlation.
July 17th, 2012 at 1:44 PM
Double Bonus!
July 17th, 2012 at 1:46 PM
They told Kyle Korver to go away, that count?
As far as I can tell they’re hoping to bottom out next season, get another flukey lottery win after finishing where the Suns usually do and build like OKC was able to
July 17th, 2012 at 1:46 PM
Unfortunately, this would require “analytical” thinking, which Broseph McIntyre hasn’t been able to provide in his NBA posts this summer.
July 17th, 2012 at 1:49 PM
Nets bench: Evans, Marshon Brooks, Teletovic, Taylor, Stackhouse
Knicks: Kidd or Felton, Novak, JR Smith, James White, Camby
I don’t know. The Nets might not have much of a bench, but the Knicks’ bench is somehow even worse.
Nets top 8 >> Knicks top 8.

Pistons need a garbage man.
July 17th, 2012 at 1:53 PM
They need good players. They have a rosterful of garbage. Waste Management Engineers are the least of their worries.
July 17th, 2012 at 1:54 PM
Looks at roster.
Thinks it is mostly garbage.
Wonders why Pistons need ANOTHER garbage man.
July 17th, 2012 at 1:55 PM
No, the Pistons need a superstar or two.
July 17th, 2012 at 1:55 PM
Dude. Pistons have players that ARE GARBAGE. Not Garbage men.
July 17th, 2012 at 1:55 PM

WMEs could help with the garbage, no?
July 17th, 2012 at 1:57 PM
+1 for using WME
July 17th, 2012 at 2:00 PM
That guy kicked ass for the Austin Toros during dunk competitions.
July 17th, 2012 at 2:03 PM
Why ? If they’re only good (and he is very, very good) player is likely out for the year, why waste the cash now. Wait till next year.
July 17th, 2012 at 2:04 PM
I don’t normally make bets, but I’d put money on that one.
July 17th, 2012 at 2:04 PM
The REALLY sad part?
That anyone believes that Jeremy Lin is going to be the difference between the Knicks finishing ahead of the Nets or not.
July 17th, 2012 at 2:08 PM
No
July 17th, 2012 at 2:13 PM
I like Evans for his rebounding. But besides that, are the rest of them any good? My point was: Knicks finished 5th in defense – They don’t need a deep roster as much as the Nets.
Oh yea, before I forget, duck Folan.
July 17th, 2012 at 2:18 PM
What makes you think defense requires less depth?
And besides that, Fields is a solid defender who’s now gone. Shump is hurt and will probably miss the first 2 months of the season.
July 17th, 2012 at 2:23 PM
Darrell: Where do you think the Knicks finish? Top 4 in the East?
July 17th, 2012 at 2:23 PM
And Jefferies is gone, too. He was useless on offense, but he was probably the Knicks second best defender.
July 17th, 2012 at 2:46 PM
Miami, Chicago (even without Rose for half the season) and maybe Boston. The Knicks team I saw the second half of last season are better than the rest of the East and now they’ve improved. Top 4 sounds about right.
July 17th, 2012 at 2:48 PM
He was beyond useless on offense. He was an abortion, but they are defintely going to miss his defense and hustle.
July 17th, 2012 at 2:55 PM
Sounds optimistic for a team that looks worse on paper than it did last year. I’d take Indy and Brooklyn’s over the Knicks. I think Toronto could surprise as well. Knicks seem like a 42-44 win team, assuming Melo and Chandler stay healthy.
July 17th, 2012 at 4:15 PM
42-44 is possible on the low end, I guess. What I don’t agree with is them being worse on paper than last year. Once Tyson left the game for a blow or foul trouble, they didn’t have any alternative at the 5. With Camby, and to a lesser extent Thomas, they have improved in that area. As far as the point guard position, the biggest effect Lin had was he was able to stabilize that spot for a short period of time. Shumpert struggled, Davis was out, and Douglas was atrocious. The Knicks can score, what they need is a PG to not be atrocious and not have to rely on Melo to bring the ball up the court and initiate the offense so much. They at least have that with Felton and Kidd. Their defense improved last year and is now even better. I watched them play Indy 3 times, beat them back to back on a Friday and Saturday and came within blown a 17 point lead of sweeping them. I watched them play Philly, who are prone to offensive drought. I think people are overrating those 2 teams based on favorable playoff matchups each had as well as injuries their opponents suffered.
