Jeremy Lin Will Be a Houston Rocket According to a Report
Jeremy Lin, the point guard whose 35-game stint with the New York Knicks galvanized the franchise and the fanbase, is apparently headed to Houston. Howard Beck of the New York Times reports the Knicks are not expected to match the Houston Rockets’ 3-year, $25 million offer sheet for the former Harvard star.
The decision was ultimately financial, not emotional, according to people briefed on the deliberations. The contract with Houston includes a third-year balloon payment of $14.9 million, which would have cost the Knicks another $35 million or more in luxury-tax penalties had they matched the deal. The so-called poison pill was designed to dissuade the Knicks.
Of course, the Knicks had an out – the stretch provision, which would have permitted New York to dump Lin after two years and spread out his 3rd year balloon payment over three seasons. The news of the stretch provision really only emerged this morning and gave Knicks’ fans hope; one wonders if New York brass even was aware of it. If they were, then it was never seriously considered, because they struck a deal with Raymond Felton Saturday night after getting wind of Houston’s new offer.
If the Rockets indeed win the Lin sweepstakes, a lot of the blame will fall upon James Dolan, the Knicks’ incompetent owner, and some will inevitably blame Carmelo Anthony, the team’s star who never got along with Lin. A lot of people will say this is about money, but clearly there was more to it. Why worry about what’s going to happen in three years when four players will have expiring deals? Clearly, money was a secondary issue in this deal.
The Knicks have until 11:59 pm tonight to change their minds. Here’s hoping they do.

No matter what, the knicks still aren’t winning a playoff series.
Sad is everyday the franchise is still owned by James Dolan
July 17th, 2012 at 5:09 PM
part of me hopes they do change their mind so we can see the inevitable JMac article about how they should have let Lin sign with the Rockets so they can be stuck with his lousy play.
July 17th, 2012 at 5:09 PM
They were better the year before

THERE’S STILL TIME TP EMAIL KNICKS BRASS AND TELL THEM ABOUT THAT PROVISION
July 17th, 2012 at 5:14 PM
I feel bad for tyson chandler. He doesn’t deserve to play with a clueless organization like this. Knicks will be lucky to finish 3rd in their division. They’ll battle Philly for 3rd because boston and Brooklyn will finish 1-2 in the atlantic
July 17th, 2012 at 5:15 PM
Lolz. Lin is decent, but he’s not THAT good.
Here are his numbers once teams started figuring him out following the peak of Linsanity (Toronto Raptors game winner:
6, 9, 7, 3, 4, 8, 1, 6, etc….
His last game, he had 7 turnovers, and finished the season averaging 3.6 turnovers a game. HE DOESN’T HAVE A LEFT HAND!!!

Sorry, I meant to say turnover numbers. 6, 9, 7 turnovers per game for your point guard is ridiculous. He is terrible at handling ball pressure and teams will be aiming at him to stop the hype.
July 17th, 2012 at 5:17 PM
This whining over the loss of Lin strikes me as the most bizarre pity party ever.

He did have some decent games however, so he’s not an absolute fluke. Post Linsanity, he did well when he took around 10-12 shots a game. I see him more as a Brandon Jennings type than anything that significant. He’s a starter, but he’s not a star.
July 17th, 2012 at 5:19 PM
Does anyone have a bottom line?
July 17th, 2012 at 5:21 PM
Tim, help me!!! Hitting the “submit comment” box 6 times quickly isn’t the answer (obv.)…hahahaha

That gives you a lot of choices, can you narrow it down a bit…
July 17th, 2012 at 5:24 PM
It wasn’t about the money (knicks stated they would match at the original 19.5M). Dolan got butthurt ’cause he got played by Lin and his agent. Worst part of this – having to watch Felton attempt to play ball. It’s a double whammy.

I’m sorry that you’re going to lose Jeremy to Houston, Jason. Maybe, in your newly-acquired free time since you’re not going to be occupied with stressing about Jeremy’s future with the Knicks, you could fix your site?

All this attention to the Knicks when it should really be pointed at Daryl Morey. He let two better point guards go and then offered to pay Lin this contract. A deal that makes him higher paid than both players he let go.

Are you gonna post every article ever written, Scalia? I look forward to not reading any of them.
Lowry was disgruntled or something. Plus, that pick is the key asset they’ll throw at Orlando. Regarding Dragic: Mark Stein reported that Phoenix agreed to send Nash to LA, and in exchange, his agent agreed to have Dragic sign there.

listen, comrade…this lin, what is big deal after all? he got the stutter step, the floater, no problem, but what IS problem is for player from famous american university, this lin is not making the smart play.
this basketball, it simple game, nyet? but what is not so simple is the many moving part. let us not talk about these details because you know what it is they are saying…”chinaman have six faces, and not one is beautiful.” lin look like drunk uncle vasily when he try to go to left.

Sweet Jesus mole, you really fucked HAL over with that one. Nows the time to strike, while the server is weak!!!
July 17th, 2012 at 6:36 PM
The same guy who had real ballers like Allan Iverson and Chauncey Billups come to Denver, and never uttered a word about shot attempts or spotlight or who’s team it is, is all of a sudden jealous and threatened by Jeremy Lin? Thats some dumb shit. He’s probably irritated as hell that he’s been asked about this cat non-stop, and insulted that people would actually say it was Lin’s team.
July 17th, 2012 at 6:51 PM
I agree that Carmelo is not a top-5 NBA player
July 17th, 2012 at 7:35 PM
What about the inanity in the Knicks running around telling anyone who would listen that they were going to match, before the offer sheet was officially presented, thereby allowing Houston and Lin to re-work the deal and make it much more difficult for the Knicks to match? Such mis-management.
July 17th, 2012 at 9:21 PM
It ain’t Melo, it’s Dolan. All day, every day. Look at the revolving door of players this past decade; throwing horrible money after awful money after bad money for useless players with no upside; eating even more green after shit-canning coach after coach; refusing the advice of internal counsel and human resources to investigate a pertinent sexual harassment claim by a black woman against a high profile employee; and many more very bad things. But now this Lin deal and the “poison pill” is the last straw.
Too bad. I was actually looking forward to at least three years of Tebow and Lin being in the tabloids for things other than wielding guns, beating women and failing breathalyzers…
