Kobe Bryant Tells Kyrie Irving He’ll Play Him 1-on-1 For $50,000, Then Incessant Trash Talk Follows
Kyrie Irving, Rookie of the Year and dribbler extraordinaire, told Kobe Bryant he’d like to play 1-on-1 for $50,000. (Another Irving hustle? Unlikely.) Kobe laughed at him, then they shook on a deal. What followed is about 90 seconds of solid, chuckle-worthy trash talk from Kobe. The matchup will happen next summer. This needs to be televised, mostly because I think Irving has a slim chance.
Been a rough year for Kobe, right? Wife dumps him, James Harden wins trash talking contest with him, Wade breaks his nose (on purpose?) at the All-Star game, he choked a couple times against the Thunder, and now a 20-year-old is brazen enough to challenge Kobe to play 1-on-1.

NO CHANCE.
kobe’s HUGE compared to him. 1v1 would be a powerpoint presentation on post moves.
July 13th, 2012 at 10:38 AM
Commenting only to see if I get the thrill of it actually going through…shit’s like playing slot machines
July 13th, 2012 at 10:42 AM
Why not make this apart of all-star weekend? Hell I think a 1v1 tourney would be fun to watch. 1s and 2s up to 11.
July 13th, 2012 at 10:43 AM
get him uncle drew.
July 13th, 2012 at 10:44 AM
replace the dunk contest with 5 1-on-1 matchups?
Might be tough to get guys to agree on it, but worth a shot
July 13th, 2012 at 10:45 AM
i will laugh when kobe loses
July 13th, 2012 at 10:45 AM
id hate to be the chumps that have to go up against lebron…that just wouldn’t be fair at all.
I AM NOT COMMENTING FAST ENOUGH, WEBSITE…STOP LYING TO ME.
July 13th, 2012 at 10:47 AM
How did you arrive at that conclusion? Your juvenile Kobe hate is fucking comical.
July 13th, 2012 at 10:52 AM
Makes you long for the straightforwardness of the FastCGI Error that came right out and said things were fucked and didn’t make you question your internet presence
July 13th, 2012 at 10:53 AM
HA! You’re fucking awesome JMac. And by awesome I mean incredibly stupid.
and my guess is, after he struggles in the 2nd half and playoffs because his legs are shot and his wrist is busted, he’ll skip the Olympics
July 13th, 2012 at 10:54 AM
Goddammit. That idiocy at the bottom is your dumb quote from an earlier post.

Kyrie can’t shoot well enough to beat Kobie. Give it up TBL.
July 13th, 2012 at 10:56 AM
I like Kyrie’s chances if they play 1s and 2s. He’s a better shooter than Kobe.
July 13th, 2012 at 10:57 AM
well that’s just wrong.
July 13th, 2012 at 10:57 AM
They’re clearly both ruined after playing in K’s system, doesn’t matter.
July 13th, 2012 at 10:58 AM
Kobe. Easily.
Also, in Ohio, and can barely get service. I hate the north.
July 13th, 2012 at 10:58 AM
Kyrie can’t shoot well enough to beat Kobie.
did you watch the rookie/soph game?
July 13th, 2012 at 10:59 AM
where in ohio?
July 13th, 2012 at 11:00 AM
You see the shooting numbers Kyrie put up in his rookie year? Higher 3% and eFG% than Kobe has ever put up
July 13th, 2012 at 11:01 AM
About 30-40 min east of cincy.
July 13th, 2012 at 11:02 AM
Spencer nailed this with the first comment. Kobe would just back him down and kill the kid. Kyrie would have to be on fire to have a chance.
July 13th, 2012 at 11:02 AM
there’s your problem right there.
July 13th, 2012 at 11:03 AM
I’d like to see it. But I think Kobe just backs him down and shoots a bunch of short shots over him to win. It’d probably be boring.
July 13th, 2012 at 11:03 AM
Not a fair comp, though. Kyrie got a ton of wide open shots because the D had to concern themselves with Antawn Jamison, Alonzo Gee, and Anthony Parker.
Kobe got a lot of hard double teams, because no one was worried about Pau Gasol and Bynum.
July 13th, 2012 at 11:03 AM
Even my first comment of the day got posted too quickly. Wow.
July 13th, 2012 at 11:04 AM
True. Way out in the poor looking parts, no offense, for a tournament
July 13th, 2012 at 11:05 AM
I don’t know. There was a similar age gap between Iverson and Jordan. I’m sure people would have made similar size arguments then, and Iverson probably would have done fine in a 1:1 game.
July 13th, 2012 at 11:08 AM
Who has two opposable thumbs and gets to drive thru the entire fucking state of oHIo on Sunday? This guy.
July 13th, 2012 at 11:08 AM
youll prolly hate this question, but do you think kyrie plays as “big” as AI? iverson was tiny, but ate opponents alive.
July 13th, 2012 at 11:09 AM
comments 12 and 13 are confusing me almost as much as the post title followed by the first sentence of the post.
July 13th, 2012 at 11:10 AM
if you want, feel free to pop over for a quick bong rip to make the trip somewhat do-able.
/i actually like driving thru some parts of ohio…nice scenery with the trees and shit…the farms def suck tho
July 13th, 2012 at 11:12 AM
yeah, fuck agriculture.
July 13th, 2012 at 11:14 AM
Good question. I think Iverson’s advantage is that he was much quicker and a better overall athlete than Kyrie, but Kyrie’s body control on drives to the basket is elite. I think that allows him to play pretty big.
July 13th, 2012 at 11:14 AM
For All Star weekend, I’d rather see HORSE games. Make it worth their while, so guys take it seriously. Have them mic’d up so that you can hear the trash talking.
You’d see some ridiculous stuff and the trash talk would be worthy…
July 13th, 2012 at 11:15 AM
I’ve actually never been to the SE part of the state, and we’re heading thru there to raft in WV. But yeah, I-75 and the Turnpike both suck ass.
July 13th, 2012 at 11:15 AM
Coming from Louisville, the trees hug the road so close I was afraid a deer was popping out at any moment. I will say Ohio is currently better than this server.
July 13th, 2012 at 11:18 AM
God’s country, down there. It’s the start of Appalachia, but much of the area is beautiful.
Turnpike and I-75 are the worst parts of the state. Western Ohio (until south of Dayton) is flat as a board. Turnpike is just dull, dull, dull.
July 13th, 2012 at 11:22 AM
This would be a fun game. Kobe would abuse him in the post though..however, if he misses (and he will), Irving would blow by him every time unless he just stood near the basket and forced Uncle Drew to take jumpers.
July 13th, 2012 at 11:23 AM
I’m just concerned some guys in a coonskin cap is going to wave a pitchfork at me screaming “YOU TOOK ERR COACHES”
July 13th, 2012 at 11:27 AM
Betcha it won’t.
/agents, teams, NBA… someone will bitch about it
July 13th, 2012 at 11:28 AM
Didn’t they try HORSE a while back and it was a massive failure?
July 13th, 2012 at 11:36 AM
I watched a few minutes of that… when Durant got hot, it was a swish from everywhere. He was amazing at the end. But yeah I think 1-on-1 call your own fouls would be awesome, and never happen.
July 13th, 2012 at 11:39 AM
Mo-town (I know, right?) is in the North. It’s Marshall and the Southern part of the state that is, um, interesting.
July 13th, 2012 at 11:40 AM
Were I Kobe, I would play that game right now. If he waits another year, his knee caps may litterally fall on the court.
July 13th, 2012 at 11:45 AM
Is there a rule I’m missing that it can’t be played in 10 minutes in my backyard, or is Kyrie just trying to get more age in Kobe before it happens.
/I’m going challenge Kobe to a 1 on 1 with my unborn son but it’s a date set for 30 years from now.
July 13th, 2012 at 11:45 AM
whoa…had not seen this.

They’ve done it during the lead in shows a couple of times. It’s pretty boring.
