Joe Paterno’s Name Removed From Nike’s Child Development Center Child Care
That was quick. Wonder how long it’ll take Phil Knight’s minions to update the website. You can see Nike’s statement here. And now, we wait for the next domino to fall – for the Statue of Joe Paterno on Penn State’s campus to come down. That sucker is coming down.

for the Statue of Joe Paterno on Penn State’s campus to come down. That sucker is coming down.
That’s when I suspect the riots will start.
July 12th, 2012 at 1:44 PM
What is the obsession with this statue?
July 12th, 2012 at 1:44 PM
Fuck the statue, the biggest question to me is the library.
July 12th, 2012 at 1:44 PM
PSU will probably just change Humanitarian to Human.
July 12th, 2012 at 1:45 PM
That sucker is coming down.
It definitely should
That’s when I suspect the riots will start.
sad.
July 12th, 2012 at 1:46 PM
And even if it’s not there to cast a shadow, the sun will still rise tomorrow.
July 12th, 2012 at 1:47 PM
Honest question: what % of Penn staters still support JoePa?
July 12th, 2012 at 1:49 PM
Probably, but I don’t get the fascination with it.
July 12th, 2012 at 1:50 PM
the sun will still rise tomorrow
Bet your bottom dollar???

After civil suits all they can afford to replace it with is a Jimmy Carter statue: Malaise Forever.

Why do you take so much joy in this? Also, have you read the report? I’m not sure that you have.
I honestly think Paterno was the least culpable person of the “big 4″, but obviously there was a huge mistake on his part in not doing more. as stated in the report, he failed his Cleary Act responsibilities (but he may not have known them). I can honestly say that if I was in his shoes, I can’t be sure that I would have acted differently. He was told something horrible about someone he had known for a long time, and tried to report it, but also tried to protect the guy if it wasn’t true. He didn’t choose ready, fire, aim, as a lot of the media and the BoT did. He also admitted his mistakes. It is cold comfort for the victims I’d imagine, but he’s the only one that has taken any responsility.
July 12th, 2012 at 1:58 PM
The Fake ESPN @TheFakeESPN
Nike to remove Joe Paterno’s name from building on their campus, as it offends the children that make their products.
I chuckled.
July 12th, 2012 at 1:59 PM
Support how?
By “support” do you mean that they totally believe Joe was innocent of any wrongdoing here?
I’m a PSU alum and I don’t know anyone that I keep contact with that thinks that.
July 12th, 2012 at 2:00 PM
Clown opinion bro.
July 12th, 2012 at 2:01 PM
as stated in the report, he failed his Cleary Act responsibilities (but he may not have known them).
Kids being raped in the shower? Gosh I just don’t know what to do!
July 12th, 2012 at 2:01 PM
he was more concerned in protecting his program than protecting kids. with all due respect, sir spicious, your point is ridiculous. If you don’t report child abuse to the police or some other authorities, you are culpable. I also don’t want to hear that he reported to the campus police person. Campus police are flimsy and biased as shit.
July 12th, 2012 at 2:03 PM
Love how Nike pretends to give a shit about kids.

I respect your opinion, but to me it isn’t just what JoePa should have done (as a father/grandfather) it is the whole perceived (in my view)cult/idolization of him and the program by the entire community. I am the first to admit I have not been to State College and I could be WAY off, but these are my perceptions of the situation looking from the outside.
July 12th, 2012 at 2:04 PM
Is anyone explicitly disagreeing with this anywhere?
July 12th, 2012 at 2:05 PM
Hell needs to Freeh Paterno for prosecution.
July 12th, 2012 at 2:06 PM
Obviously, as the head of the Campus police force (Schultz) was an active participant in the cover up from the very beginning.
July 12th, 2012 at 2:06 PM
And sweet Jesus, great caption.
July 12th, 2012 at 2:11 PM
Love how Nike pretends to give a shit about kids.
They do! Those tiny hands really helped build an empire
July 12th, 2012 at 2:11 PM

He did report it. To his boss and the guy in charge of campus police. They actively covered it up. Again, he had a legal requirment to report it to campus police. He didn’t. He spoke to the guy in charge of campus police.
July 12th, 2012 at 2:12 PM
And sweet Jesus, great caption.
I like to thik he is watching the lil’ Rascals in that picture

Then you go higher. You keep going until someone NOT associated with PSU actually does something. Sorry dude but your defense of him is weak.
July 12th, 2012 at 2:15 PM
This. The perception is/was that he was the biggest of the big 4 and could have done the most.
July 12th, 2012 at 2:17 PM
He spoke to the guy in charge of campus police.
Maybe because he knew that the guy in charge of the police wouldn’t let this leak out? Maybe he didn’t want his little football program tarnished? This to me is even worse. He put his football program ahead of the welfare of children being fucking raped.
July 12th, 2012 at 2:18 PM
Joe Paterno’s Name Removed From Nike’s Child Development Center Child Care
Why? Is there some sort of news I should be aware of?
July 12th, 2012 at 2:18 PM
Guess I should take the ‘is’ out of that statement. And as morbid as it may sound, him passing when he did might have been the best thing for him and his family.
July 12th, 2012 at 2:20 PM
He called the pizza dude!
July 12th, 2012 at 2:21 PM
Fucking Mole and his pizza
July 12th, 2012 at 2:21 PM
One of the weird things I didn’t know when I went there is that the local State College police does not have jurisdiction over the actual school itself. The Campus Police does. Which doesn’t seem right to me.
/I probably didn’t know this because I had a billion-ty dollars in parking tickets from State College Borough
July 12th, 2012 at 2:28 PM

This. The perception is/was that he was the biggest of the big 4 and could have done the most.
By that standard, what if he reported it to the State College police and they squashed it? What then? Go to the state police? Everyone “knows” that he ran everything in that part of the world. Report it to the governor? File a writ of habeus corpus?
Look, I get what you guys are saying. He fucked up. Huge. Maybe I am an apologist, but I think I’m trying to add nuance. He knew the guy for 40 years. Sandusky was accused of a crime similar to something that had been investigated a decade earlier. He reported in a manner he thought appropriate (and acknowledged after the fact that he wished he did more), but it appears he also tried to shield his friend/former assistant if it wasn’t true. It looks to me that university adminstrators were the ones fixated on covering things up.
July 12th, 2012 at 2:29 PM
Joe also stopped those same higher ups from going to the police so that they could “humanely” take care of Sandusky.
July 12th, 2012 at 2:31 PM
It was like this at my school too. The campus was considered it’s own little city.
July 12th, 2012 at 2:35 PM
Joe also stopped those same higher ups from going to the police so that they could “humanely” take care of Sandusky.
see, to me, this is the problem with the leaks and people just reading the exec. summary. it doesn’t say that. Curley says he’s uncomfortable with reporting to DPW after speaking with Paterno. You could say that Paterno pressured him. You could say he had second thoughts about reporting someone he’s known for his entire life. You could wonder why Spanier didn’t say “fuck off, this is what we agreed to do”.
July 12th, 2012 at 2:41 PM
with all due respect, sir spicious, your point is ridiculous. If you don’t report child abuse to the police or some other authorities, you are culpable.
agreed. joe had just as much to do with covering it up as the others. But, God forbid he ruins someone’s weekend, as was his quote to mcquery. Fuck him, and the people who still support him. fuck you all.
in other news, i got a new putter.
July 12th, 2012 at 2:53 PM
go onnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn. I’m looking at a odyssey 2ball, tour model. Thing looks like it rolls like a champ.
/already have the blade putter covered

How about NOT LET THE GUY WHO WAS RAPING KIDS BRING MORE KIDS TO THE FACILITIES FOR 10 MORE YEARS.
I swear the Joe Pa defenders with the “he told his bosses and they didn’t follow through” line seem to ignore the ten years between him reporting it, nothing happening, and then Sandusky finally being arrested. Joe knew what Jerry was up to, he knew his “superiors” didn’t do anything, and he couldn’t even be bothered to stop the guy from bringing children around his campus, practices and facilities.
July 12th, 2012 at 3:02 PM
And I wonder if Sandusky would bring “Timmy” around, perhaps introduce him to JoePa, or others, and then when they leave, know full well that kid was gonna go get fucked.
July 12th, 2012 at 3:03 PM
I agree with this. The biggest problem is that through his longevity he essentially destroyed his legacy. The Grand Experiment of academics/athletics he facilitated rings hollow with his role in the abuse of children.
In 1998, when incidents first occurred, Joe was already in his 70′s. The fact that the university allowed Joe to maintain such leverage/power at such an advanced age is an indictment of themselves.
July 12th, 2012 at 3:04 PM
You think Joe knew that Jerry was in the “Nittany Lion Box” the day he eclipsed the all-time wins record? I mean, JoePa was in the press box himself and if I had to guess, I’d say the “Nittany Lion Box” and the press box are pretty close. Hell, the two may have even ran into each other going to use the bathroom.

mint.
love how last issue’s black series is cheap as hell too. fantastic putters for a low price.
July 12th, 2012 at 3:17 PM
i am going to try the heavy putter blade. i tried out a buddies, and really liked the balance and feel. and if it sucks, i have a white ice on standby.
July 12th, 2012 at 3:19 PM
enjoy…never really tried one of those.
July 12th, 2012 at 3:19 PM
Yeah, odyssey knows there way around the putter business. I love a blade as much as the next guy, but when it comes to mallets why mess up a good thing? I feel like Scotty has always missed the boat on the mallets, for whatever reason. I like the idea of the GoLo, but the damn thing needs to be a flat black with white sight lines or satin / pro platinum. Black with black alignment line? Psh.
July 12th, 2012 at 3:21 PM
as someone who took the paintfill off their own sightline, that doesn’t bother me much about the goLo…what does is how ugly the head looks at address.
i thought the scotty fastback 1 was an awesome mallet, but then they gave it a flow neck instead of the double-bend. didn’t like that. also, saw a lot of meh reviews re: fastback 1…kinda surprised me.
July 12th, 2012 at 3:25 PM
Never had to worry about the fastback or the notchback because of the no-lefty mantra. However, I am still tempted by the squarebacks on ebay. Or, i may one day just decide to putt right-handed. I am not that bad at it from inside 5 feet
July 12th, 2012 at 3:26 PM
i wanted nothing more but to love this putter, but almost burst out laughing it was so ugly in person.
July 12th, 2012 at 3:27 PM
really? I haven’t seen one in-person in lefty form. It does look awfully big; like putting with a pack of cigarettes attached to a shaft.
July 12th, 2012 at 3:28 PM
“why is there a betamax tape on a golf shaft?”
July 12th, 2012 at 3:29 PM
Remember when these were popular that one year on tour?
http://www.golfdiscussions.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=25962
I really thought those were awesome!
July 12th, 2012 at 3:30 PM
hell, scotty still does.
July 12th, 2012 at 3:31 PM
Again. These reports are nothing but a smear campaign on a guy who can’t defend himself. Paterno is sadly getting killed here.
July 12th, 2012 at 3:31 PM
counterpoint: he already died bro.
July 12th, 2012 at 3:33 PM
yeah, but the current notchback isn’t as wild as that tour-only one he had out in 08. I still like it a lot, with the welded neck in that one pic. Oh well, thats the nice thing about being a lefty: don’t have to worry about spending too much cash on tour-issue or rare stuff.
July 12th, 2012 at 3:36 PM
that’s the nice thing about being a poor righty too.
July 12th, 2012 at 3:36 PM
i have to say, the influx of golf chat on this site over the past year or so is impressive. golf talk used to be confined to 4-5 commenters.

I have some older Cleveland black head irons. Really like them but they’re small and hard to hit. Best club? A ’50s Ping putter my grandad gave me. It was the first club he ever bought. I’ll use it til it falls apart.
July 12th, 2012 at 3:42 PM
im leaning towards sea bass golf.
July 12th, 2012 at 3:43 PM
Went waaaaaay back to a Wilson Augusta from the mid 70′s the other day. Great roll.
July 12th, 2012 at 3:43 PM
interesting…any idea what model offhand?
July 12th, 2012 at 3:43 PM
How much is it to be fitted for clubs.
depends, most companies will fit you for “free” as long as you buy the set of clubs they fit you for, which isn’t a bad deal.
just google “ping club fitting tour” (or whatever company you’re interested in) and there should be a date when they’re in your area. that is, unless you’re fetch.
July 12th, 2012 at 3:44 PM
I wonder how many people on here defending Jopa for doing enough to stop tje abuse have kids. This story divides between those with and those without children. Having kids makes this story worse to think and talk about. I just wonder if those defending Joey P are parents.
July 12th, 2012 at 3:44 PM
YES. THAT’S AWESOME.
July 12th, 2012 at 3:46 PM
Is trey serious with his paterno worship or is he just trolling?
July 12th, 2012 at 3:48 PM
I couldn’t disagree with this line of thinking more.
July 12th, 2012 at 3:48 PM
Peerless – usually the cost of the fitting will go towards the club purchase (if fit at a van stop from a manufacturer) or towards the clubs you wind up buying (if done by a fitter at their store or on their time and you buy a set from them). Fitting is such a crucial part of the game these days. buying off the rack stuff is fine if you know what you need or you don’t mind waiting to get it adjusted, but if you can wait a few days, get fitted and order it. You may pay retail, but the savings over the long run make up for it. think what you save if you lose 2-3 less balls per outing. If you are playing the higher end balls, a sleeve can cost 12 bucks or so.
July 12th, 2012 at 3:49 PM
I couldn’t disagree with this line of thinking more.
that’s cause you’re a gay red sawx fan.
July 12th, 2012 at 3:51 PM
we used to have putting competitions with a Titleist Bullseye at the shop where I worked. we’d put the greens, then all around the store, a la our own mini golf. The nice part about it was we could all use the same putter.
July 12th, 2012 at 3:53 PM
Spence, tour actions. They’re not so small as just a little inconsistent. Of course, that is most likely user error. My dad got fitted and they recommended mizuno. I know I’ve heard great things, I’m just leery of straying from the usual brands. If that makes me a gold elitist so be it
July 12th, 2012 at 3:55 PM
It’s just a big misunderstanding! Like a Three’s Company episode.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIvIEF19nm0
July 12th, 2012 at 3:58 PM
funny enough, being leery of mizuno puts you in a camp opposite of an elitist.
July 12th, 2012 at 4:00 PM
Really? I guess I’m thinking more along the lines of the usual companies. Maybe I should look into mizuno then
July 12th, 2012 at 4:00 PM
All this talk of putters. I highly recommend a persimmon- or wood-head putter. Spencer knows what I’m talking about. Sweetest feel ever in a putter.
July 12th, 2012 at 4:00 PM
This is why I come here. To learn about things. I shouldn’t have gone to college
July 12th, 2012 at 4:01 PM
you won’t be disappointed.
July 12th, 2012 at 4:02 PM
JoePa = Mr. Roper, Sandusky = pedo Jack Tripper, poor kids in the shower = male Chrissy.
July 12th, 2012 at 4:02 PM
I went to LSU, and that’s why I come here every day — to learn the things I should have learned in college.
July 12th, 2012 at 4:03 PM
sweetest feel ever in a putter? they’re different and cool, no doubt, but the best feeling putter ive tried was an old tp mills spalding.
July 12th, 2012 at 4:08 PM
Those look like blades. Hard to hit?
July 12th, 2012 at 4:15 PM
i don’t think they are (play mp67′s).
i feel like blades have become a self-fulfilling prophecy of sorts. you hear so many people say how hard they are to hit and that high handicaps shouldn’t play them, that you believe it yourself.
honestly, i’ve seen ZERO difference between the playability of my old CB’s and the mp67′s. NONE. the sweet spot is the size of a needle no matter if it’s an MB or CB, so why get “forgiveness” when you’re sacrificing performance on perfect shots?
if you want to hit perfect shots all the time, i kinda think you should feel where oyu’re hitting the ball on the clubface…easier to adjust your setup when you know what went wrong than guessing because every shot all over the face feels the same.
July 12th, 2012 at 4:17 PM
Holy shit those fuckers are expensive. Spence I thought your were poor!
July 12th, 2012 at 4:18 PM
Exactly.
July 12th, 2012 at 4:22 PM
I rarely hit it square anyways, yet most of the time it ends up where I want it. Thanks for advice. One day, when I “find” some extra cash, I’ll look into it
July 12th, 2012 at 4:23 PM
One of the bst (and easiest) gold drill ever is to hit between two tees. Works with every club from driver to putter and you’ll hit the ball in the same spot (eventually).
/hasn’t done this since the spring…
July 12th, 2012 at 4:23 PM
*best, *gold=golf
July 12th, 2012 at 4:25 PM
mp67′s expensive? you can get a set in pretty damn good condition for under $300 easy.
i traded a titleist hybrid, a bluetooth and $40 for my set.
July 12th, 2012 at 4:27 PM
Two tee drill. Got it. I play with a buddy regularly thus summer who has helped me tremendously with little things.
July 12th, 2012 at 4:33 PM
ive found my mishits with blades don’t fly as far offline…might have to do with having more control over the clubface and the off-center hits not having the ball speed to fly more offline.
July 12th, 2012 at 4:39 PM
Started a round birdie birdie last week, which has never ever been done before. Par next hole then double double, bogey, bogey. Golf is so cruel
