Had the worst scenario on the team I coached for my daughter. Kindergarten and 1st grade boys and girls, mostly girls, girly girls, too. A team filled with sand artists and wanderers, kids not wanting the ball to come to them, at all. Last second, the league asked us to take on a last-minute kid, no problem. Turns out that this kid was some well-trained baseball cyborg. I got into coaching so that my kid and her pals could goof off together on the weekends, I could give a shit about anything except making the little fuckers at least watch for the ball between walking in circles and chasing eachother, then I was stuck with fucking Todd Marinavich and his asshole family. That was not fun. I mean, the little shit knew all the positions, could hit without a T, and knew where to run when he hit the ball. The fucking worst.

Of the $800 Cooperstown cost, more than half was raised through fundraising and putting tournaments on.

If your team plays in fewer tournaments, the costs go down. We played in at least 10 tournaments plus 1 game per week. We have a deal with the local HS to make a donation to their dugout club in exchange for limited winter use of their indoor (but very cold) batting cage.
