Dwight Howard Trade Rumored to Involve Orlando Giving Brook Lopez 4-years, $58 Million. Really
Dwight Howard-to-Brooklyn was thought to be on life support after the Nets traded for Joe Johnson, but it appears the patient has been revived! Since New Jersey only has crap to offer the Magic, other teams like Cleveland the LA Clippers had to get dragged into the mess and strangely, both seem to want to oblige. It’s fun to watch this morass slowly come together, and you wonder if maybe the Cavs got involved just so owner Dan Gilbert could try and block LeBron from winning another title.* Yahoo’s Woj & Spears are doing most of the heavy lifting, and here’s the latest from them:
Brooklyn Gets:
Dwight Howard
Jason Richardson
Earl Clark
Orlando Gets:
Brook Lopez
Damion James
Shelden Williams
Luke Walton (from Cleveland)
3 future 1st-round picks
Cleveland Gets:
Quentin Richardson
Sundiata Gaines
Kris Humphries (who would sign a 1-year deal)
1st round pick
$3 million cash
LA Clippers Get:
Marshon Brooks
As a Knicks’ fan, I’d be mildly perturbed if the Nets landed Howard. Pairing the best center in the NBA with a Top 5 point guard in Deron Williams, plus having Johnson and Gerald Wallace as other options puts the Nets in the same class as the Heat and Thunder. Orlando would be getting a whole lotta junk, and 3 1st-round picks from teams that will be thriving in the coming years. It just doesn’t make sense. The Nuggets got way more for Carmelo Anthony.
Previously: Dwight Howard: Dumb Trade Demands, Surly Flip-Flopping … a Dwightmare, Indeed
* It’s a conspiracy theory of mine. Come on, it’s not that far-fetched. The Cavs have Sideshow Bob, drafted Tristan Thompson last year and Antawn Jamison. They just drafted Tyler Zeller in the first round. Where are they playing Humphries? The 1st round pick they’d get? Clippers and Nets are gonna be stacked, so it’d be in the late 20s. Does Gilbert really want to line his pockets with $3 million?

Breaking…. Non-Superstar NBA players are egregiously overpaid.
Nice lockout.

it’s a good thing im a toys ‘r us kid because if you needed to eat dozens of hot dogs after you’ve already eaten 30 in order to be a man, i wouldn’t stand a chance in hell.
July 9th, 2012 at 7:26 PM
Antwan Jamison
He’s a UFA. Cavs don’t own his rights.
July 9th, 2012 at 7:31 PM
the first alien is on…you know, i think prometheus kinda got a bad wrap. it surely wasn’t the worst movie ever made and im sure the director’s cut will be like 50 minutes longer to fill in all the plot holes, as per ridley.

and you wonder if maybe the Cavs got involved just so owner Dan Gilbert could try and block LeBron from winning another title.*
I know the current labor agreement has only existed for about a year so I doubt many have had a chance to pay learn to it’s functionality, but for those teams without elite/championship level assets, the best way to obtain good players, drafting well and then re-signing these players is the keys increase their payroll and then shift pieces to build a future elite roster. The future MLE sucks. Hence, the Cavs stockpiling a mother load of picks, even for role players will help them considerably. For example, move a 24/33/34 netted them a very good role player in Zeller.
Also, Humphries on a 1-year deal will make him a trade asset at this year’s deadline, for another FUTURE pick. Worst case, Varajeo gets hurt and they replace him with Humphries.
July 9th, 2012 at 7:37 PM
So Orlando dealt Howard without being able to unload the Hedo contract as well. Woof.
July 9th, 2012 at 7:47 PM
The Cavs have Sideshow Bob, drafted Tristian Thompson last year and Antwan Jamison.
All three have something in common…..they aren’t real.
July 9th, 2012 at 8:12 PM
Watching the Home Run Derby. If all they are capable of saying is “home runs sure are cool”, how much do they think having three ‘analysts’ instead of one or two is going to add?
July 9th, 2012 at 8:12 PM
First, Jamison is a free agent and will not be returning.
Second, that crowded front-court would consist of 2 vets and 2 kids, so 4 players for 2 positions.
Third, this deal allows them to swap Walton’s $6M for an actual NBA player on a 1-year deal and Q Rich who makes nothing.
Fourth, they would gain $3M.
Fifth, this would give them, I think, their 8th 1st round pick in the next 3 years. Though most are projected late-round picks, that’s 8 in 3 years!
July 9th, 2012 at 8:15 PM
Fourth, they would gain $3M.
That’s Porsche money.

Scalia, NBA your favorite sport I presume? What’s your favorite team(s). You always have all these items dialed in…
July 9th, 2012 at 8:16 PM
When you need a Director’s Cut to fix the problems of the Theatrical Release, you got bigger problems then simply getting a DVD or Blu-ray together.

The only director whose ‘director’s cuts’ are actually worth a damn are Ridley Scott. Both Blade Runner and Kingdom of Heaven were better as Director’s Cuts.
July 9th, 2012 at 8:19 PM
I love basketball in general, so NBA is my favorite. Live in Ohio, so Cavs are my favorite. But, I wouldn’t consider myself a diehard of the team, as much as I am just a fan of the league…if that makes sense.
July 9th, 2012 at 8:21 PM
“Skyball”? Really Chris Berman?
July 9th, 2012 at 8:35 PM
Scalia – so you think nobody else can present a better offer? you get crap players, are financially hog-tied for two years, and a bunch of draft picks in the 20s. really?
you see what denver got for melo? way more.
July 9th, 2012 at 8:43 PM
whose first round pick do the cavs get?
July 9th, 2012 at 8:44 PM
I tihnk you misread my post. I never even commented on the Magic’s side and completely agree that they are nuts for settling for this. However, I tihnk it makes tons of sense for the Cavs to jump in and disagree with you on that point.
July 9th, 2012 at 8:46 PM
However, I can’t even spell think, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

i thought andy would be gone via draft day trade. i still think he’s on the block.
July 9th, 2012 at 8:49 PM
If he stays healthy, he will be moved at some point. He has such a team-friendly salary and would really benefit a lot of top-tier teams.
July 9th, 2012 at 8:52 PM
“Skyball”? Really Chris Berman?

Doing work at home tonight, so any sound in the background is better than the sound of me flipping through pages and pounding out things on the keyboard….for now. Might simulcast it with some Avett Brothers in a few minutes.

i thought andy would be gone via draft day trade. i still think he’s on the block.
I never bought into the GSW stuff since GSW had 3 bigs and like 30+mm in payroll on those 3 bigs. No other teams really had rumors for AV. I don’t think he’ll be gone.
That said, given he’ll be balling in the Olympics, put him at o/u 50 games next year.
July 9th, 2012 at 8:55 PM
I would argue for Richard Donner’s cut of Superman II to be included in this category as well.
July 9th, 2012 at 8:57 PM
Scalia,Real, in August when they release the NBA schedule, pick out a Cavs game and I can host as needed.
July 9th, 2012 at 9:02 PM
He has such a team-friendly salary and would really benefit a lot of top-tier teams.
i read this as “mike brown”. but they have nothing to offer the cavs.
July 9th, 2012 at 9:02 PM
Almost Famous the only DIR cut I’ve really liked, but even it wasnt necessary. As a film nut, Blade Runner is one of the few modern greats I havent seen but my friends Shutter Island’d it for me.
July 9th, 2012 at 9:03 PM
why would kris humphries agree to this?
July 9th, 2012 at 9:06 PM
Cavs will need a classic in/out SF, a stretch 4, and a back-up PG. They have cap room and 8 draft picks to address those items in the next three years. I am not sure what trading Andy does. I like stockpiling assets but he’s a guy you build around not trade away.
July 9th, 2012 at 9:06 PM
Denver got an erratic role player (Gallo) and a worthless future pick. They got fleeced. As one-sided as this deal is, Orlando is getting more.
July 9th, 2012 at 9:08 PM
why would kris humphries agree to this?
Fegan is his agent and D. Ho’s agent and Fegan probably convinced him so he (Fegan) could finally get the D Ho deal done. Or he didnt like the offers he got since the bulk of the quality FA’s already got paid.
July 9th, 2012 at 9:10 PM
hey gamers check out this opening
July 9th, 2012 at 9:10 PM
Orlando was going to have to go Nuclear on their roster once it became apparent Howard was gone. They basically made every wrong move since they made the finals and today they had to pay up. They weren’t getting value. Too bad they couldnt have unloaded Lopez to a team for even more picks and assets. By the time they have anywhere near a roster ready to compete he’ll be a broken man.
July 9th, 2012 at 9:13 PM
Dan Fegan is trying to get Howard to Brooklyn at the expense of his other client. I still think this is just a smokescreen and Orlando knows better.
July 9th, 2012 at 9:18 PM
I am not sure what trading Andy does.
frees up space for the young guys to play. i don’t really want them to be good. not that andy makes them good, but if you can get a decent offer for him i say move him. if including him in a draft day trade that put the cavs in the top 2, i would have been ecstatic. but that’s a no brainer.
July 9th, 2012 at 9:23 PM
I would agree ONLY if it meant moving up a draft for a very high guy. But I think TT and Zeller will get plenty of minutes on their own. I like the idea of TT having to earn every minute too. I don’t need to see Samardo play though. It’s a long year, there are plenty of minutes to go around IMO.
July 9th, 2012 at 9:32 PM
Camby to the Knicks. Just what they needed. A big.

KC fans got all pissed off when he didn’t pick Billy Butler for the HR TV thing and then booed the hell out of him during his round. He hit zero homers.

Almost Famous the only DIR cut I’ve really liked, but even it wasnt necessary. As a film nut, Blade Runner is one of the few modern greats I havent seen but my friends Shutter Island’d it for me.
There’s a difference, I think, between a good Director’s Cut and one which dramatically improves the movie. Ridley Scott just happens to have two movies that fit that description, whereas so many others are of the Almost Famous variety: nice, but not necessary. And then you have some that are an utter waste of time and DVD manufacturing.
July 9th, 2012 at 9:55 PM
Booing Cano was probably the most fun KC fans have had since the 80s.
July 9th, 2012 at 9:56 PM
Is it possible to go “opposite field to center field”? Did Nomar Garciaparra just invent something which isn’t physically possible?
July 9th, 2012 at 10:07 PM
Odds that jck49er was booing cano? He’s there. Ill go check twitter bc I’m cool

July 9th, 2012 at 10:13 PM
Ms, if he fouled one straight back the pitch before the cf bomb that would be opposite field
I suppose. I don’t think that that was the way that it was being used though. I think this was more a situation where you have some idiotic former jocks and a TV personality who hasn’t been relevant in over a decade and dumbassedness ensues.
July 9th, 2012 at 10:16 PM
I am not sure you know what opposite field means.
July 9th, 2012 at 10:17 PM
I am not sure you know what opposite field means.
I took his statement as slightly sarcastic.
July 9th, 2012 at 10:18 PM
Fuck Nomar that roided out little bitch. Glad the Sox won after they dealt his ass. He had surrendered to the pressure in Boston. He deserves nothing.
July 9th, 2012 at 10:18 PM
I get the appeal of twitter as a source of breaking news but not as a replacement for what used to happen here. The give and take is too slow

A legit backup big man who can also play side by side with Chandler. Plus they denied Miami from picking him up. Big time move.

I’ll join in in the race for 100. I actually tend to use this site to get news on things like the Derby so I don’t have to actually watch it.
July 9th, 2012 at 10:32 PM
Olneys tweets of the derby make me feel sad for him
July 9th, 2012 at 10:32 PM
I’m fairly sure I heard Nomar earlier say that the “hard grounders” out of the infield were more impressive than the home runs. Does this mean that Home Run Derby commentary has finally jumped the shark? God I hope so.

No doubt. I think I still owe you some player gear from my Aston Villa hookup overseas. Maybe when they do a TBL thing at some random Iowa-Penn St game we do a mini-version of our own.
Going rural where the wife grew up. Going past Oswego to amongst farmland, but the huge upgrade to the house/land is worth it.

We’ll be in LaSalle County. Had to decide on whether a small school without some of the major sports (i.e. football) would be alright for out son when he’s less than a year old. The discussion about little league baseball and travel was interesting especially as we move to a rural area (we aren’t on a farm, but have our own woods in the back).
/i also think i am neighbors with bsanders now
July 9th, 2012 at 11:14 PM

July 9th, 2012 at 11:16 PM
Still working at bhs rollo? How long a drive?
July 9th, 2012 at 11:16 PM
LaSalle County is one of, if not, the largest county in Illinois. Best football schools are Pontiac and Spring Valley Hall, though they’ve both fallen off a bit. Best advice, send your kid to a (cheater) private Catholic school like Peru St. Bede, Ottawa Marquette, or Bloomington Central Catholic
July 9th, 2012 at 11:17 PM
Grew up there – graduate of Plano……live in Boston (don’t ask)
July 9th, 2012 at 11:20 PM
Yeah, about 45 minutes but without much traffic at all. Beats the 25 minute drive I had even though I was like eight miles away.
Best advice, send your kid to a (cheater) private Catholic school like Peru St. Bede, Ottawa Marquette, or Bloomington Central Catholic
July 9th, 2012 at 11:23 PM
200 kids would mean you’re looking at 1A or 2A schools, and not many in LaSalle compete. Best I can think of might be any with the big tax base like Seneca or El Paso. Heck I think Seneca is even 3A or 4A at this point.
July 9th, 2012 at 11:26 PM
It’s still like 14 years away and so much can happen. Otherwise the small schools have soccer and golf in the fall, basketball in winter, and baseball in the spring. He would just HAVE to play those sports. Best part would be not being likely to get cut (like I did from the eighth grade basketball team)
July 9th, 2012 at 11:27 PM
Or bass fishing.
July 9th, 2012 at 11:29 PM
Basketball in LaSalle County isn’t bad, you have solid small schools. Problem is the crapshoot you get with the quality of coaches. The key would be to look for long-term consistency in the coach. Flanagan and Somonauk always seemed to have some consistency.
Enjoy farm country – it was a great place to grow up, but I don’t miss it overall.
/Hoosiers’d
July 9th, 2012 at 11:32 PM
Actually it will probably be Somonauk HS.
My wife attended Serena HS (200 students) and always wanted to move back there. Didn’t help that when she moved in with me in the suburbs we ended up between a serial killer cab driver on one side and hoarding weirdos without jobs on the other side. So she’s happy without neighbors. It will be interesting. Thanks for the advice.
