Dallas Mavericks: Dumpster Fire
Dallas Mavericks, 2011 NBA Champions!
Eleven months later – swept out of the first round of the NBA playoffs.
July 8, 2012 – the core of that tittle-winning team is gone.
I haven’t seen a title-winning team crumble this fast since the then-Florida Marlins won a World Series. How’d it happen to the Mavericks?
* Tyson Chandler left in 2011 for the Knicks.
* JJ Barea left for the Timberwolves.
* Caron Butler left for the Clippers.
* Jason Terry bolted to the Celtics this week.
* Jason Kidd left for the Knicks Thursday.
But there’s good news, Dirk Nowitzki! You’ve still got Brenda (not a misprint) Haywood, Shawn Marion and Vince Carter! Enter all your old people jokes here.
Projected Dallas Mavericks’ starting lineup for the 2012-2013 season:
PG – Roddy Beaubois, 24
SG – Vince Carter, 35
SF – Shawn Marion, 34
PF – Dirk, 34
C – Haywood, 32
The bench will have some young pups like rookies Jae Crowder and Jared Cunningham, and Brandan Wright is coming off a decent season in which he shot 61 percent. Maybe they’ll overpay for OJ Mayo or Chris Kaman, but Dallas is headed toward a 28-win season and a Top seven pick in the lottery.

Jason, I’m gonna flog this dead horse for a while longer.
“I thought the Mavs had a visionary, player-friendly owner & organization? What happened?”
July 8th, 2012 at 4:57 PM
They’ll be bad, but I don’t know about 28 wins.

Big hole in that roster the size of Nick Young amirite?
July 8th, 2012 at 5:18 PM
Not a bad thing to have one down year in order to stockup the following year

Rolando Blackman is not walking through that door…

I know i prefer winning tittles over titles.

after the Heat won in 06 things went south quick, Miami got swept by the bulls in 07 first round
July 8th, 2012 at 5:49 PM

he actually changed his name to Brenda?
July 8th, 2012 at 6:18 PM
wow, this guy is gonna be a starter in the NBA? holy shit, these team is gonna be a disaster.
July 8th, 2012 at 7:14 PM
Kind of funny that the Rangers are the only team here in the DFW actually worth a shit.
July 8th, 2012 at 7:25 PM
They only fall to 28 wins if dirk is injured most of the season. Dirk is still a top-10 player in the league, and Carlisle is a good coach
July 8th, 2012 at 7:35 PM
I don’t get it.

JMac is trying to fit in with the opposing fans who mocked Haywood while at UNC by calling him Brenda. A failed attempt at humor.
July 8th, 2012 at 8:50 PM
by “opposing fans” you mean everyone, including UNC fans whenever he played like crap, and by “while at UNC” you mean his entire college and NBA career.
July 8th, 2012 at 8:53 PM
They must live sad, boring lives to not come up with a good taunt
July 8th, 2012 at 9:01 PM
As long as Dirk is around they’ll be in the hunt for a 7-8 seed. I think you’re overrating some of the younger teams like Minnesota, New Orleans, Golden State, etc. Yes they should improve but let’s face it 30-35 wins would be a considerable improvement.
July 8th, 2012 at 9:28 PM
Brenda Haywood? that’s sexist.
July 8th, 2012 at 9:36 PM
I think the Mavs did the right thing in letting the core break up. It’s not popular but given that they had an aging veteran team that didn’t deserve long-term deals, and had to negotiate a completely new labor/financial market while trying to re-engage the roster.
Brenda (not a misprint) Haywood,
needs more snaps fingers in the shape of a Z

This was posted over a day ago. This is pathetic don’t just copy somebody’s story then act like it is your own. This is the second time that I know you have just copied an article on ESPN then acted like it was your own idea. Weak!!!

They look at ESPN in the same light as Scrubbing Bubbles. They do the work so you don’t have toooooooo.

I prefer Haywood Ublowme

In fairness to the EIC it’s not like this is a novel concept. I think it’s conceivable that two people came to the same obvious conclusion without plagiarism involved.
July 8th, 2012 at 11:02 PM
That is true but within a day of each other? It is not like it was posted on some small website it was posted on the biggest sports website in the world. Then his article had nothing new in it he just changed the format somewhat.

Doc – I’ll assume you’re joking. Nothing similar about the two. In fact, this post was half-written by Thursday right after the Jason Kidd signing; i just got caught up with other stuff and was unable to complete it until Sunday afternoon. Have you read all our NBA free agent coverage over the last 8 days?
check the Dallas stuff here

also, check my twitter feed – plenty of Mavs tweets similar to what this post is about.

I was being serious. Good point from your previous post where you mentioned it on the 5th but the two articles are very similar. Both talk about the fall from grace, show where the free agents went then offer some comparison to another title team that had a quick fall from grace. You used a MLB team they used the 2006 Heat. They are more similar then dissimilar without a doubt.
