Steve Nash Traded to the Lakers as Part of Sign and Trade
Steve Nash has been traded to the Lakers in exchange for multiple future draft picks, according to John Gambadoro of KTAR in Phoenix. The full details of the trade have not been disclosed. According to Gambadoro, Nash preferred the Lakers all along over either the Knicks or Raptors, as it was closer to his family and home. The Lakers hope that the 38-year old Nash has a few more good seasons left and revitalizes the team, which lacked point guard play. Kobe Bryant led the team in assists in 2011-12, but if Nash is healthy, that should change dramatically next season.
[UPDATE: Paul Coro of the Arizona Republic is reporting the draft pick compensation is two first round picks (2013 and 2015) and two second round picks (2013 and 2014).]

For Lakers: Nash + Kobe + Gasol + Bynum? Or will they move Gasol to cut costs? (Or move Bynum for Howard?)
For Suns: picking up pieces to complete a sign-and-trade for Eric Gordon?

Oof.

I am fine with the trade. But seriously how can they pay him that and we not have to take on a horrible player contract wise?

Draft picks?

I think Lamar Odom’s trade exception is involved.

Maybe but it’s more about Sarver getting 3M and also not having to take on any contracts because of the Lakers TPE.

YES!!

Fucking odom. Those Lakers picks better secure a s &t for Gordon

LOL Darrel. You got what u wanted. I remain conflicted.

Raptors are funny, tho. Everybody’s making basketball trades, they’re playing tic-tac-toe.

As a lifelong Suns fan I have to say this is some bullshit. Those picks aren’t going to amount to anything. The first rounders will be in the 24-30 range.
Sarver can suck a dick. Oh, how the Suns and Phoenix miss Jerry Colangelo…

Better some picks than just having him go sign a contract with someone else straight away. Were you really that jazzed about the possibility of Iman Shumpert?
It’s rebuild time in Phoenix, some extra picks over the next four years will only help.

if rockets sign lin and asik could be worst fa signings in one year ever

I wonder if the Laker’s are cocky enough to not protect those first round picks.

It’ll be interesting to see how Kobe plays off the ball. But Nash/Pau or Nash/Bryant off the pick and roll is going to be amazing. This is great.
I still think they should pick up an athletic backup PG cause Nash is going to be torched in the playoffs.

Never fear Suns fans: Michael Beasley is on his way!

Oh my goodness, they think Fisher had trouble guarding Westbrook. This is going to be pure comedy.

Have fun running that Mike Brown “offense.” At some point nice guy Steve Nash will snap and just choke Brown in the huddle.
Respect the Lakers for selling out to win now, give Kobe a little window to get 1 more.

the dumars/charlie v. signings by DET disagree.

Also, YYSA you owe me for calling me an asshole and saying Nash would never play for the Lakers.
July 5th, 2012 at 8:42 AM
While this happens to be a true statement, its not like Westbrook will have it easy on the defensive end either. At least he’ll have to check Nash unlike he did with either Fisher or Sessions.

How long will this take to work? I haven’t seen enough of the Lakers to see how much Kobe handles the ball, but he’ll still have to adjust to fewer shots. I almost think you’d be forced to trade one of the big men, just to make sure everyone is getting enough touches.
