Penn State Emails Show Obvious Cover-Up Attempt of Sandusky Shower Rape in 2001
Gary Schultz and Tim Curley, you can panic now. CNN obtained emails from 2001 that were sent between the two former Penn State administrators and prove they were clearly aware of Jerry Sandusky’s shower rape of a young boy on Penn State’s campus in 2001. From the News & Observer:
The report goes on to say that former Athletic Director Tim Curley said he discussed the situation with Joe Paterno and “am uncomfortable with what we agreed were the next steps. I am having trouble with going to everyone but the person involved. I would be more comfortable meeting with the person and tell them about the information we received and tell them we are aware of the first situation.”
Curley allegedly commented on getting “professional help” for Sandusky.
The report goes on to cite an email Spanier allegedly sent, saying in part, “I am supportive. … The only downside for us is if the message isn’t heard and acted upon and we then become vulnerable for not having reported it. But that can be assessed down the road.”
This should bring back another round of “What did Joe Paterno know?”

One of the emails pretty much states that JoePa not only knew but helped plan the next steps of non action. Per CNN:
Curley indicates he no longer wants to contact child welfare authorities just yet. He refers to a conversation the day before with Paterno. It’s not known what Paterno may have said to Curley.
Curley writes: “After giving it more thought and talking it over with Joe yesterday, I am uncomfortable with what we agreed were the next steps.”

“The only downside”? Right, because God forbid anything should happen to the kids involved. That alone is enough to make me ill. I can’t comprehend how sane human beings can think like this.

wish paterno was still alive, would have loved to see that braindead geriatric in court, mumbling away.

I realize I’m splitting hairs here and there’s no question that Penn State fucked this up badly. But does this really reveal more about JoePa than what we knew already? So Penn State administrators changed their “strategy” after a conversation with JoePa – but without knowing what JoePa said in this conversation, isn’t it a bit of a leap at this point to conclude he was in on, or even directing, this strategy?
To be clear, I’m not a Penn State or JoePa fan; I have no dog in this fight. And I think it’s entirely possible that JoePa was as much a conspirator in this as Spanier et al. I’m just not sure we’ve learned enough YET to know that.

I am not saying that there wasn’t a cover-up, but this does not make it “obvious”. but, yeah, make your own conclusions…

“pretty much states”. That’s funny.

Ugly.
Those that insisted Joe didn’t know about the ’98 incident were kidding themselves. The victims should sue the Paterno family.

I’ll agree to that but some screen caps of alleged emails that don’t say explicitly what was discussed with “Joe” aren’t what I would consider a sure thing.

I hope those families will be more judicious in the evidence they present in court to support their case than the Conservative operatives were in the evidence they presented to the Supreme Court against Obamacare.

True story. I was in State College recently, and someone asked if I had seen the JoePa statue (they still don’t get it). I told them, no, I was looking the other way.

That’s a winner, AWACD. (Sorry, I cannot bring myself to address you as Dildo.)
Let’s just label Penn State the moral equivalent of the Catholic church when it comes to pederasty and move on.

I wonder if the Penn State Rock Ethics Institute will ever disavow its over-the-top support of Spanier as an ethical leader, even long after he was fired, or if the Institute will ever be brave enough to utter the words “Joe Pa” in any context. …Tacit support of all things JoePa? From an outsider’s perspective, it is easy to conclude that Penn State’s culture of corruption runs deep.

The culture of corruption wasn’t the only thing running deep.
