Madison Bumgarner threw a complete game one-hitter last night against the Reds, as the San Francisco Giants moved into first place in the NL West for the first time this season. It also marked the fourth consecutive game that the Giants have not allowed a run. The last runs came in the ninth inning

Most surprising was Tim Lincecum’s performance, as he had been struggling. The Giants had lost 9 straight starts by Lincecum until the last two wins, and he got his first official win since April 28th on Wednesday. The 22-year old Bumgarner, meanwhile, made another strong impression before the announcement of the All-Star Game roster on Sunday, as he is now 10-4 with a 2.85 ERA.

It must be pretty nice when you can throw four straight shutouts, and then, the ace of your staff and a guy who just threw a perfect game takes the mound next. If Matt Cain can extend the streak, they will match the 1995 Orioles, the last team to go five straight games without allowing a run.
