Skip Bayless Has Progressed To Racial Trolling, Which is Probably Boosting Ratings

All, ESPN, Race Ty Duffy June 29th. 2012, 4:25pm

Skip Bayless purportedly said he was “totally against taking American-born white players in the first round of the draft.” First Take went through the trouble of tweeting this to make sure it entered the Internet marketplace. Ratings probably spiked, which seems to be the only area of big, wildly important concern.

We’re unsure of the context. We are sure that context is irrelevant. Broad, sweeping generalizations are stupid. Ascribing such generalizations to any person based on his or her skin color or culture is cheap and repugnant. It has no place in serious discourse. It has no place in fake, trumped up, frivolous discourse. That is textbook racism, not a jumping off point for lively discussion.

The same network that suspended an anchor a month for unintentionally using a common idiom in an unfortunate context feels this is not only acceptable, but worthy of promotion? Ridiculous.

Skip is annoying, but he’s somewhat right. When is the last American-born white guy to actually succeed in the league when drafted in the lottery?
Reddick is not very good, neither was Morrison, or Robert Swift, or Jimmer, etc.

Also the knock on most white guys in the draft is “lack of athleticism” which is a lot of times code for can’t play D. Still remember when Luke Ridnour got drafted Jay Bilas saying he couldn’t guard a chair.
