You may recall my breathless coverage of Chael Sonnen’s trash talk leading up to his fight at UFC 117 against Anderson Silva. Or maybe not. That was nearly 23 months ago. (Wow. We’re getting old.) Since then, Sonnen has kept talking shit about the middleweight champion. He’s also beefed with Octagon girls, Canadian sports anchors, the entire country of Brazil, and the California State Athletic Commission.

The main target of Sonnen’s nonsense has always remained Anderson Silva. On July 7th, they’re finally going to rematch and everyone agrees that it should be awesome. Especially now that Anderson Silva is talking trash right back at Sonnen. The first go-around, Silva mostly sat quietly and smirked while Sonnen sold the fight and his hatred for the champ. With less than two weeks until the fight, it appears that Sonnen has finally gotten under Silva’s skin. At this week’s UFC 147 conference call, Silva yapped back.

“First of all, Chael is a criminal. He’s been convicted of crimes. He doesn’t deserve to be inside of the octagon. When the time comes and the time is right, I’m going to break his face and break every one of the teeth in his mouth.”

“Chael Sonnen’s getting his ass kicked like he’s never gotten his ass kicked before. He’s disrespectful, he’s a criminal. I’m not playing anymore… There’s going to be no difference (between the first fight and this one). He’s going to step out losing again this time. He’s going to have to see a plastic surgeon after the fight.”

“I’m going to beat him the way his parents should have beat him to teach him some manners.”

“What I’m going to do inside the octagon is something that’s going to change the image of the sport. I’m going to beat his ass like he’s never been beaten before. I’m going to make sure that every one of his teeth are broken, his arms are broken, his legs are broken. He’s not going to be able to walk out of the octagon by himself. I can guarantee that.”

That’s quality stuff. You can listen to the entire call at the bottom. I didn’t want to put it at the top and trick anyone into listening to the opening of a UFC conference call.

Sonnen responded on UFC Tonight with his usual schtick. He now has Anderson Silva’s full and undivided attention. Since UFC 117, Silva has gone 2-0 (Up to and including the Sonnen fight, Silva went 29-4 including 13 straight wins.) and finished both his opponents in devastating fashion. Will that Silva come out next Saturday and beat the shit out of Chael Sonnen? Who knows. All that matters is that these guys don’t like each other and this fight should be great.

Here’s the full audio of the conference call. If you’re bored and want to pick up some Portuguese, here’s an excellent place to begin your lessons.
